Gracenotes: Sept. 2017 Dear Friends, First, and most important, is to thank all of you who have sent cards, letters, emails and Facebook messages after God at last called my husband, Joe, home on August 16th. I've read and re-read the thoughts printed on the cards (your choices were just right) and your hand-written tributes and prayers. Although I do feel Joe's loss I take great comfort in the memories you have shared. Joe's Memorial Celebration will be held at the church on Sunday, Sept. 24th at 3:00 PM. Second, although I have not been preaching lately, I will be in the pulpit again on Sunday, Sept. 10 th . Meanwhile, I am visiting church family members and engaging in planning with church committees and the Session (which, as you know, is our elected governing board). I am continually buoyed up by the deep compassion and wisdom I have been finding here in our congregation. Our Fall season starts up with Communion on Sept. 3rd and then some new service music for you to discover and participate in: yes, yet another different Gloria Patri (watch the bulletin) and special congregational introits and benediction responses. The choir has a bunch of really interesting new music that can be easily picked up by anyone to can come early on a “Choir Sunday”, which, in September, will be the last two Sundays of the month. Also, check out our updated and vastly improved sound system. Ask an usher for a “booster box” to help you check it out and please let me know what you think. We also have a new hand-held microphone. Now, this will be difficult for some folks. PLEASE USE THE MICROPHONE TO MAKE ANNOUNCEMENTS. No matter how loud your voice is, it's not the volume but the focus of the consonants that make the big difference. That's what the “mike” can do. Let those who have ears to hear at least have a chance to fully engage in what you have to say without losing part of it. Check out all the announcements here in Grace Notes. We're off and running! Our search continues. We have reached out to a few potential candidates. A couple indicated they had recent life changes and are now not actively seeking a call. A couple others had accepted a position and are no longer available for a call. The committee continues to meet regularly and review resumes. We ask for the congregation's prayers in our efforts and are working hard on this important decision for our church.

“Speak to one another with psalms, hymns and spiritual songs. Sing and make music in your heart to the Lord.”-Ephesians 5:19

The adult choir will resume in September. Rehearsals will be held on Sunday mornings at 9:15am. I will be emailing the choir members with a month to month schedule. New members are always welcome at any time. Come use your talents to praise God and lead our congregation in worship of our Lord.

We need you!!

The Nominating Committee is asking that you prayerfully consider serving as an Elder on Session. This a vital part of the life of our church. If we cannot find enough elders to fill the session we are in jeopardy of folding. Contact any member of the Nominating Committee if you are interested or if you have questions. Committee Members: Cheryl Nages, Paul Cliffe, Joe & Eileen Bianchi, Mike Davidson, & Carol Roberts.

Adult Sunday School Adult Sunday school will resume September 10th at 9:00. We will continue our study of the book of Colossians, starting with chapter 8. If you don't have a book but would like to join us, please contact Carolyn Williams ([email protected]) or by phone 967-8600. We would love to have you with us!

FUEL FROM BLUEOX Our church is part of a Church Consortium and has accepted the bid from Blue Ox for the coming year. Part of the offer from Blue Ox gives members of the congregation a $.10 discount on the going rate of fuel oil if they are interested in going with them. Call Blue Ox directly if you are interested. USHERS AND GREETERS Thank you to all members who continue to serve in these capacities. It is your service that makes our church a welcoming community that operates smoothly during each service!

Please remember that if you are scheduled to serve as an Usher/Greeter, liturgist, or communion server on your scheduled date, reach out to another member of the congregation to switch dates or secure a replacement.

The Spiritual Nurture Committee has decided to continue with 2 people per Sunday, who will greet as they hand out the bulletins and perform the other usher duties (light candles, place a glass of water on pulpit for the pastor, count attendance, and collect the offering). If you are currently not an usher/greeter but feel called to be part of this ministry, please contact Carolyn Williams at [email protected] or by phone at 967-8600.

Notices and other information

Bulletins If you have any announcements, prayer requests, flower dedications, etc., please email them to Karen Roszkowski, [email protected], at the beginning of the week. Karen will also be notifying the liturgists or their readings and organists of the hymns as early as possible each week. If you do not receive your information for your assigned week by Thursday, please reach out to Karen.
