  • GLANABERSituated in an exceptionally picturesque location on the edge of the sought-after village of Llanrhaeadr-ym-Mochnant is Glanaber, a very handsome stone-built family home that boasts around three acres of beautiful grounds.

  • Situated just outside the picturesque village of Llanrhaeadr is Glanaber a stunning 1800’s detached stone house. Sitting in an elevated position, this stunning property is surrounded by rolling hills, woodland, streams and an abundance of wildlife. Glanaber sits on a 3-acre plot comprising of tiered gardens, vegetable plot, orchard, an alfresco dining area and woodland. The property comprises of three reception rooms, a country cottage style kitchen flowing into breakfast/dining area, a large utility and walk in pantry, cellar, log store, downstairs cloakroom, five double bedrooms, the master with ensuite and a family bathroom. The layout is extremely versatile, the current owners use bedroom four as a home office, with the fifth bedroom being located on the second floor which could also lend itself to an art/music/play room.

Glanaber, really has the best of both worlds; you feel like you’re living the rural dream, in your idyllic rural haven but your neighbours are just minutes away as is the quaint village of Llanrheadr with its pubs, butchers, country stores, news agents, fish and chip shop, doctors and dental surgery a small hotel and just a real sense of community, with the village hall offering a variety of activities and opportunities for the locals to gather.

On the doorstep are the most scenic country walks, swimming, sailing and equestrian opportunities. At the end of the road is a stunning waterfall, which is one of the seven wonders of Wales. There is also a very good primary school and a good selection of other state and independent schools nearby.

Oswestry is just a twenty-minute drive away, which is a bustling town with a plethora of wonderful eateries, independent shops, supermarkets, leisure centre and other town amenities. The stunning Shropshire county town of Shrewsbury is approximately a 40 minute drive and the popular town of Chester 50 minutes away. Gobowen train station which has links to London/Manchester and Birmingham is around 25 minutes. Snowdonia national park, the coast and several National Trust properties are also within easy reach.

The broadband speed is excellent, and the current owner travels to Birmingham, Manchester and London with work and finds the road and rail links superb.

  • INSIDEGlanaber is approached via a long sweeping drive, climbing up to the house and onto a gravelled driveway with parking for five cars. The main gardens are to the front of the property, with an array of stunning plants, shrubs, and trees. Four stone steps climb up to the main entrance, a wooden front door leads in to PORCH area with original tiled floor, a great storage area for coats and shoes. A partially glazed door leads through to the main HALLWAY with its high ceilings, original servant bells and elegant feel.

  • We moved into the house in 2011, just before Christmas,” says Jane. “And we’d only been here a few days when one of our neighbours slipped a note under the door inviting us to a party. They invited everyone on the road so by the end of the evening we knew all the neighbours and felt very welcome. It’s that type of place, which makes it all the more special.”

  • KITCHEN/DINING KITCHEN AREA – a good size country cottage style kitchen, with a lovely bohemian feel, white wooden base and wall units with wooden tops, including a dresser style unit and floor to ceiling storage cupboards, a freestanding central island/breakfast bar, a double Belfast sink, space for double oven/Aga and walk-in pantry, stone effect flooring, with underfloor heating and oodles of storage. This fabulous space flows through to the BREAKFAST/DINING AREA also with underfloor heating, a window to the side and French doors that open out on to the patio/alfresco dining area, soaking up those beautiful views. Also, off this room this the large UTILITY ROOM with Belfast sink, original slate floor, plumbing for washer dryer and back door.

CELLAR – this is a fabulous space, wonderful for storage but could easily lend itself to a play room/workshop/office, the boiler is also down here, along with a wood store.

Wooden staircase leads to first floor and landing area with sky light.

  • MASTER BEDROOM - an elegant, calming room, with high ceilings, large sash window overlooking front gardens, an original open fireplace with a storage surround, this is a good size room flowing through in to the EN SUITE which has recently been modernised with a white suite, hand basin, low flush wc and bath with overhead shower and glass panel – large sash, once again soaking up those lovely views.

  • BEDROOM TWO – this a beautiful, light and bright room with large sash overlooking side gardens, high ceiling and original fireplace with built-in wardrobes either side.

  • BEDROOM THREE – another great double, this room is at the front of the house and has a double aspect, once again creating a light, bright and spacious feel, with an original fire place and lots of shelving/storage.

BEDROOM FOUR – is currently used as the owner’s home office and is positioned at the back of the property, but equally would make a great double bedroom, with built in wardrobes.

FAMILY BATHROOM – white suite, with hand basin, low flush wc and a bath with attached shower head, wooden floor and glazed window overlooking the rear incorporating wooden shutters.

Door leads to wooden staircase and to the second floor

BEDROOM FIVE - this is a fabulous quirky space, the current owners use this area for storage, however this would make a good size double and a great kids room or art studio/office space. Adding versatility to this much-loved family home.

  • Seller Insight The house was originally built in 1879 and remained in the same

family until it was sold to the previous owners in 2000, so it’s a

house that has been well loved,” says Jane. “My husband and I bought the

property in 2011 and for us it was the location that was the big attraction.

We were moving from London and our main priority was to find a place

midway between our two sets of elderly parents, but we also wanted that

holy grail of rural seclusion without the isolation. Our search took quite some

time but the day we found Glanaber we immediately fell in love with it.”

“The house sits in around three acres of the most beautiful grounds and it’s a

wonderfully varied landscape and a real haven for wildlife. We have woodland

to the back, a very pretty orchard and the more formal gardens lie to both

the front and side of the house. We enjoy views of the magnificent Berwyn

Mountains, we’re surrounded by some of the most glorious countryside in

Wales and just down the road we have the famous Llanrhaeadr Waterfall,

which attracts visitors from far and wide. It’s without doubt a very special

place and we’ve loved every minute of our time here.”

“When we were searching for a new home we were keen to find a period

property, but not one that was too twee or cottagey,” continues Jane.

“Glanaber simply oozes character and charm but to me it has the look and

feel of a very elegant gentleman’s residence. It’s a house that most definitely

retains its historic integrity and features an array of really beautiful original

features, but we’ve made changes here and there that make it extremely

comfortable for 21st century living. We added wood burners to both the main

sitting room and the dining room, we changed the windows at the back of the

house to increase the efficiency of the under-floor heating in the kitchen-and-

breakfast room and we also created a beautiful en suite. It’s a very spacious

house but at the same time has a wonderfully warm and welcoming feel, but

what really sets it apart is this glorious setting.”

  • OUTSIDE

Glanaber compliments the everchanging seasons, the tiered well stocked garden has an abundance of flowers, shrubs and trees with a beautiful pergola at the bottom, there are so many different areas to sit and soak up the views including a pretty, paved area to the side of the property. There is also a vegetable garden and an orchard with plentiful fruit trees. There is an outhouse/storage area which is connected to the cellar, a great place to store the mower and other garden equipment, there is also a shed and a green house. The wildlife is amazing and the stars at night shine bright. Climbing up behind the property is the woodland, with its snowdrops, bluebells and stunning views.

Glanaber is a very special proposition, a property that is truly good for the mind, body and soul.

  • Circumstances have changed and although it will be a real wrench, we feel the time is right to downsize, but we hope to stay in the area,” says Jane. “I’ll miss the house, the garden, being able to step out of the front door and immediately be surrounded by so much natural beauty… it’s been the most wonderful place to call home.”

  • It’s a very spacious house but at the same time has a wonderfully warm

and welcoming feel, but what really sets it apart is this glorious setting.”
