Jane Davies has managed the canteen for more than four years and has been ably assisted by Cheryl as a volunteer for two days each week during that me as well as a roster of parents. Cheryl is a grandmother of three of our students. We very much appreciate the work of all our volunteers and a special thank you to Cheryl for her ongoing support. Curriculum Day Tomorrow We have several sessions planned for our curriculum day on Friday to support the school s wellbeing, teaching and learning areas of focus in line with the Annual Implementaon Plan: Numeracy: We will be looking at lesson structure and differenaon to ensure all students are acvely supported by the teacher during each lesson at their point of need. This includes extending and supporng all students at a range of abilies with challenging and engaging tasks. Literacy: The teachers will be revising the use of Toolboxes during wring sessions. This ensures students have access to a range of vocabulary and spelling strategies to improve the quality of their wring. Other teachers will be exploring ways to further differenate and provide explicit teaching of comprehension strategies during reading sessions. Digital Technology: The new Victorian Curriculum will be the focus for this session. Teachers will have the opportunity to familiarise themselves with the digital technology curriculum and build an understanding of the scope and sequence of learning opportunies from Foundaon to Level 6/7/8. These will be incorporated into weekly plans. Wellbeing: Some members of the wellbeing leadership team have aended two very worthwhile sessions to build the schools wellbeing curriculum and supports. In line with School-Wide Posive Behaviour Support framework we are currently updang our values. Over the coming year, we will be creang a range of documents and expectaons around the behaviours and atudes of the whole school community in our interacons with each other – staff, students and families. Following a workshop on Monday when we looked at our Resilience Survey data, we will be addressing several areas to improve studentsfeelings of connectedness to school and peers. If you are interested in contribung your ideas for our school values discussions please talk to a school council member, Lisa Maxwell or me, before our next school council meeng on 21 st June. Canteen Helpers Last week was School Canteen Week and I would like to recognise the efforts of all the canteen helpers Jane Davies has managed the canteen for more than four years and has been ably assisted by Cheryl as a volunteer for two days each week during that time as well as a roster of parents Cheryl is a grandmother of three of our students We very much appreciate the work of all our volunteers and a special thank you to Cheryl for her ongoing support

Curriculum Day Tomorrow We have several sessions planned for our curriculum day on Friday to support the schoolrsquos wellbeing teaching and learning areas of focus in line with the Annual Implementation Plan

Dear Families

This week is Education Week 2017 ndash Health Body Healthy Mind Every week at Gisborne Primary School there are programs that are covered both in and outside of the classroom that contributes to the sense of Healthy Body and Healthy Mind for students and families in our school community Students are participating in Physical Education sessions each week Students are encouraged to eat healthy fruit and vegetables for brain food each day and are encouraged to drink plenty of water throughout the day Students are active during recess and lunchtime Senior students participate in extra sports sessions As mentioned in earlier newsletters the school has introduced SEL which is Resilience Rights and Respectful Relationships program within the classrooms Students are exposed to Mindfulness sessions on a daily basis Our Term One Integrated Studies was based on Health and also included our Learning to Learn program where students were introduced to a positive mindset It was lovely to see our students participating in the planting day today Well done to our Junior School Councillors for their part in making the day run smoothly and of course to our wonderful parent helpers A huge thank you to Sally Emerson for working tirelessly to organise the day Kind Regards Bree Scott and Lisa Maxwell

SAFETY CONCERNmdashHEATING FOOD Dear Parents

Due to safety concerns we ask parents NOT to send food that requires heating OHS requirements prevent students from using microwaves and staff cannot leave the classrooms

unsupervised at eating times There are also concerns that students can be burned from spills or possible over heating

We thank you for you co-operation and understanding

On Wednesday the 17th of May the prep cohort had an incursion from Western Water Alice came to visit us and teach us about the water cycle We learnt that water can be found in three forms a liquid a solid and a gas and as it goes through the water cycle it changes We participated in a play demonstrating the water cycle Each person was dressed up as a certain role in our class play We had lots of fun

On Monday the 22nd May the girls soccer team walked to Dixon Field to compete in the District Soccer tournament Our first game was a friendly match against Riddells Creek Primary Our score was 4-0 with Phoebe and Caitlan scoring 2 goals each Our second game was against Mount Macedon with the score 3-0 Our goals were scored by Lily Eleanor and Monty Winning this game meant we got in to the grand final Our third game was against New Gisborne in the grand final It was a stressful but fun game winning 2-0 with goals scored by Natasha and Caitlan We are now moving on to compete in the Division tournament We would like to thank Mrs Stuart for training us and Mr McCall Mrs Lopes and Steve Van Emmerik for taking us there and all the parents for supporting us on the day By Zoe S Natasha W amp Rue Kmdash6C On Monday the 22nd May at 900am the boys soccer team went to Dixon Field to compete in the interschool soccer tournament The first match was at 1030am We won 2-0 against Holy Cross Our second game was at 1130am and we lost 2-1 in a competitive game against Macedon Our third game was at 100pm against Mount Macedon and we won 1-0 After all of our matches we played a friendly match against the girls and the teachers We would like to congratulate the girls on winning the grand final and we would also like to thank Steve for being a great coach Thank you to all the parents and teachers that came along By Lane G Josh D Caleb W amp Aiden Cmdash6A

Comedy Festival to raise funds for our school

The show will be held on Saturday 29th July

at 8pm at the Gisborne Golf Club

This is a great way to have a fun night out and

help raise funds for our school (The show is adults

only as it may feature some low level course

language)

Tickets are $35 each and bookings can be made

Oval Play and Retaining Wall Planting

The planting on the retaining wall should be completed today Thank you very much to those parents

who have volunteered to help in various ways We hope the students have enjoyed being involved in

the process and thank the Junior School Council for their work to make it happen

Parents please remind your children to be careful not to step on the plants when retrieving balls from on

the retaining wall We particularly ask for your help with this when playing after school

On Monday the 22nd May the girls soccer team walked to Dixon Field to compete in the District Soccer tournament Our first game was a friendly match against Riddells Creek Primary Our score was 4-0 with Phoebe and Caitlan scoring 2 goals each Our second game was against Mount Macedon with the score 3-0 Our goals were scored by Lily Eleanor and Monty Winning this game meant we got in to the grand final Our third game was against New Gisborne in the grand final It was a stressful but fun game winning 2-0 with goals scored by Natasha and Caitlan We are now moving on to compete in the Division tournament We would like to thank Mrs Stuart for training us and Mr McCall Mrs Lopes and Steve Van Emmerik for taking us there and all the parents for supporting us on the day By Zoe S Natasha W amp Rue Kmdash6C On Monday the 22nd May at 900am the boys soccer team went to Dixon Field to compete in the interschool soccer tournament The first match was at 1030am We won 2-0 against Holy Cross Our second game was at 1130am and we lost 2-1 in a competitive game against Macedon Our third game was at 100pm against Mount Macedon and we won 1-0 After all of our matches we played a friendly match against the girls and the teachers We would like to congratulate the girls on winning the grand final and we would also like to thank Steve for being a great coach Thank you to all the parents and teachers that came along By Lane G Josh D Caleb W amp Aiden Cmdash6A
