C heers from the 2015 Harvest! During these spectacularly colorful days and the holidays ahead, I hope you’ll especially enjoy celebrating the season with the 2013 Reserve Malbec found within your Fall Release. For over 130 years, our winery has continued the beautiful tradition of crafting Bordeaux-style blends with our estate Malbec. However, I’m now excited and very proud to introduce Concannon’s very first varietal bottling and small lot offering of our estate- grown Malbec, and I hope it brings added deliciousness and enjoyment to your holiday festivities! M albec has a very special history within our winery as well as a meaningfulness and purpose that goes beyond the lush, bold and rustic flavors of the wine itself. In fact, as you look through your Fall Release wines, you’ll find varieties that, along with Cabernet Sauvignon, all played a very important role in the introduction of wine for the very first time to the American table. H ow this happened is found in the answer to the following question. I’m often asked: When your great-grandfather, James, founded the winery, what led him to choose the Livermore Valley? James had poured over geological surveys, and Livermore was of highest interest because Charles Wetmore, who was then Chief Executive Viticultural Officer of the California Viticultural Commission, had reported that our terroir was strikingly similar to the Médoc in Bordeaux. F rom this Fall Release, I hope you’ll have fun introducing some new wines, and perhaps even some favorite, new pairings, to your own table and holiday celebrations. From our family table to yours, we wish you a joyous season... Cheers! I’m excited to introduce, within this Fall Release, the very first, Block 10, small lot offering of our Reserve Malbec. Since 1883, Concannon’s Estat e-Grown Malbec has been used as a traditional blending grape for its Bordeaux-style wines, so this is also the very first offering of Concannon Estate-Grown Malbec as a varietal wine. We’re thrilled to introduce our Estate Reserve Malbec to you, our members, first —and, we look forward to hearing what you think! The 2013 Reserve Malbec is handcrafted from the first vintage harvested from the fledgling vineyard Block 10, planted spring, 2011. Remarkably, this block produced very high-quality fruit in only its third year. Located in our Estate Polo Field Vineyard, this block is densely planted to create a little stress for the vines which typically results in a smaller crop of incredibly concentrated fruit. This well-structured Malbec is loaded with aromas of dark berries and sweet spices along with flavors of juicy blackberry and plum which dance on the palette. The combination of sweet, dark fruits and spices, enhanced by 22 months of barrel aging, makes this a great choice for just about anything grilled. My favorite pairings are Bacon-Wrapped Pork Tenderloin and Gruyère Stuffed Burgers. Join me in savoring a glass, and light up your BBQ for family and friends soon. Cheers! From our Table to Yours... Cheers! This vibrant, fruit-forward wine is composed of two prized Bordeaux varieties, Sauvignon Blanc and Sémillon. Tropical fruit aromas and juicy fresh pear notes of the Sémillon are balanced with the honeydew melon characteristics of Sauvignon Blanc. Lingering notes of bright citrus, lemon zest and key lime lead to a fresh finish. Delicious with pork, seafood, raw oysters, chicken, and soft, hard or dry cheeses.

Refreshingly crisp and elegant, this Sauvignon Blancis bursting with succulent aromas of Asian pear and rich gooseberry. The cool Monterey climate enhances the flavors of fresh green apple, ripe pear, bright Meyer lemon and creamy vanilla. A touch of oak adds to its delightful harmony and refined structure, culminating in a vibrant and lingering finish. Pairs beautifully with sushi, shellfish, pasta with fresh herbs and salads with citrusy vinaigrettes.

This Reserve Zinfandel is lush and full-bodied with bold and textured elegance. Intense aromas of ripe raspberry and black currant fill the nose while black cherry and jammy fruit flavors entice the palate. Hints of black pepper, spice and creamy cassis lead to a smooth finish. Pairs deliciously with hearty meals of barbecue ribs, grilled meats, beef bourguignon, sausages, game fowl, pizza, Cioppino, tomato-based pastas, and aged cheddar and gouda.

Concannon is thrilled to introduce this very first offering of Concannon Estate Malbec as a varietal wine. The 2013 Reserve Malbec is true to its varietal character with beautiful, deep plum color, full-bodied texture and lovely, round tannins. This plush and supple wine displays a rich bouquet of dark berries and sweet spices, complemented with flavors of juicy blackberry and rich plum. Aged in French and American oak barrels.

Beautifully-balanced and fruit-forward, this silky Merlot has delightful aromas of black cherry, currant and rose. Jammy flavors of rich plum and Marionberry linger on the palate and mingle with soft notes of vanilla and oak. With noteworthy round tannins and full-fruit structure, this Merlot finishes smooth and long, making for an easy-drinking wine. Delicious paired with braised short ribs, bacon-wrapped filet mignon, and spicy jambalayas.

Rich with the gorgeous deep purple and inky hues true to this bold variety, our 2012 Captain Joe’s Petite Sirah exudes aromas of opulent blueberry and blackberry. On the palate, dried currant and voluptuous blackberry and blueberry flavors are complemented by a smooth nutmeg, spice and vanilla finish that lingers. Luscious and full-bodied, this wine is a deliciously intriguing complement to grilled meats, smoky eggplant, and dark chocolate.

This extraordinary Petite Sirah is big, rich, and full-bodied. Jammy blackberries on the nose intermingle with a touch of white pepper and graphite. On the palate are voluptuous and silken fruit flavors of intense dark plum, blueberry and blackberry with secondary flavors of clove and cocoa. Like the Reserve, this Heritage is ready to savor now but can be held for upwards of five years. Decanting is recommended one hour prior to enjoying.
