Our Vision and Mission Statement guides our pastoral planning
Established in 1922, the parish
family of St. John the Baptist Church
welcomes and invites all people to our
community, especially those in need.
Guided by the Holy Spirit we are
sustained by the Sunday Eucharist,
the Word of God, and the
Sacraments. All are encouraged to
share their time, talent and treasure
as we grow in love through our
Catholic faith and the life, death and
resurrection of Our Lord Jesus Christ.

Summary
December 4, 2019
7:00 p.m. – 8:30 p.m.
Pastor’s Report: follow up from Roundtables. (1) We
continue to encourage more participation of teens and
young people in our various service activities. Often the
challenge is that “more hours” are needed right away. We
are grateful for the strong participation in young people in the Thanksgiving Drive this
year. (2) There was a “Craft Fair” a few years ago, and the Council will work to
determine if this can be brought back in the future. (3) The Christmas Pageant had full
participation this year, and any child of our parish who wanted to participate was able
to be in the “cast.” (4) The suggestion of extra collections throughout the year to
support various activities and programs is a challenge. The US bishops have monthly
collections throughout the country for international and national charities, and the
parish has a tradition of a monthly collection for Outreach and grammar schools. We
will continue to support parish programs through our regular collections and fees.
Friendly Visitors: Maria Maxwell reported to the Council the results of almost six
months of discussions as this new ministry takes more concrete shape. The Council is
very supportive of outreach to the homebound. “Loneliness” is a great burden for so
many in our community and we will work hard to coordinate a parish effort to reach
out to our community.
Proposed new ministry: Building Maintenance Ministry. The Council discussed the
proposal of forming a new ministry that would assist Fr. Frank in keeping our
buildings and grounds in good condition. Various talents can be a great help in the day
-to-day things that break, need attention or need more loving care. The Council will
continue to see how this ministry will be formed.
100th Anniversary: Last spring the Council worked on a roster of events and activities
for our 100th Anniversary (2022) so that we can Celebrate, Renew and Inspire. The
Worship Committee is ready to finalize a special parish mission for Lent of 2022 and is
working on a Jubilee Prayer. Parish history, especially “oral history” of our long-time
parishioners is underway. We will be involving the young people in Faith Formation,
teens, young families, and honoring those who have been part of the parish family for a
long time. Next fall we will ask as many people as possible to be part of working
groups as we prepare for the 100th the following year (2021-2022).
The Council also talked about how the name badges are “working.” The badges
identify them as Council members and assist parishioners in sharing ideas and
suggestions (rarely complaints!). The Council hopes that more and more folks see
their badges and feel comfortable in talking with them.

Please consider “automated giving” as you reflect on support of
our parish family! The fruitful ministries at our parish are examples of how
many of you have answered, and continue to answer, that
call. To ensure such work can continue requires not only
gifts of time, but also of financial help. I ask you to
prayerfully consider supporting our parish with electronic
donations through Faith Direct. You can find paper
enrollment forms in the parish office, or you can sign up
online at www.faithdirect.net by using our church code, NY67.
