TIRELESS DISCIPLESHIP The stories we’ve been hearing these weeks come from the very first chapter of Mark, and they show us the public ministry of Jesus in its infancy. Today’s account shows some of the strain or adjustment of his new life of preaching the reign of God, healing the sick, and casting out demons. Notice that after sunset, when darkness ended the workday, people brought the sick and possessed to Jesus. The following day he rose before dawn to get away by himself to pray, but to no avail. Simon Peter and the others don’t just look for him, they pursue him, filled with the fervor that his ministry has incited. With the self-sacrificing example he gave until the end of his earthly life, he tells his followers that this is his whole purpose. Through Mark, he is also telling the early church, and he is telling us, that this is our purpose, our vocation: to be tireless in our pursuit of proclaiming the Good News, and in bringing the healing, reconciling touch of Christ to the world.
Strengthening Our Family in God - The goal of the group "Strengthening our Family in God" is to create a community that gives us both spiritual and corporal support, a community where we all seek to belong, where we feel supported, where we want to contribute and give our full support, therefore building a stronger faithful community in God. Of course, this is easier said than done! This will definitely require all the members of this community to participate and join in this goal. Steps to achieve this include getting to know each other by name and caring about each other, sharing our gifts and responding to God's call! A first step we have taken is to use the name badges; we hope you have had the opportunity to meet by name a few of your fellow brothers and sisters from the Holy Cross Community. Other plans will be to identify what gifts, experiences and abilities there are amongst our brothers and sisters, to share them within our community. Thus, in the future our parish may be able to provide us with help and / or counseling in the following areas: Job Search / Write CV, Help on dealing with drug addiction in our families, Help with homework for our children, Childcare, Parenting counseling for parents, English and / or Spanish classes. We hope you will also want a community like the one we have dreamed about and described here. Please help us achieve this by putting your name and contact information in the box located on the table as you leave the church through the main door.
