FAMILY PROGRAMSBaltimore Center Stage Family Programs introduce children to theater, and promote positive social and emotional growth. We create safe spaces for children and families to enjoy theater, engage in dialogue, and learn together.
CAMP BALTIMORE CENTER STAGE: Spring, Summer, and Single DayCamp BCS is a day camp for students in grades 1–12. Young people who participate will build creative confidence and self-awareness through intensive explorations of theater. Classes include acting, dance, circus arts, and theater production. Students get the opportunity to play, express themselves, and get artistic instruction from a team of highly-trained professional teaching artists. Each session culminates in a fun presentation of student work for family and friends inside one of Baltimore Center Stage’s newly renovated theaters. Free lunches are provided by the Maryland Food Bank for summer camp. Scholarships are available, and no one is turned away based on their ability to pay.
TOGETHER AT THE TABLEBaltimore Center Stage invites Baltimore-area families with children under 18 to join us for Together at the Table, a unique community event that promotes dialogue and interconnectivity through the power of theater. Families get $10 tickets, free lunch, and dialogue with the artists prior to a Saturday matinee performance for each of our Mainstage Productions.
OUR MISSIONBaltimore Center Stage education programs use theater to make learning purposeful and meaningful for students, teachers, and families regardless of barrier. We nurture artistry, catalyze creativity, and help students engage with the work on our stages.
FOR FAMILIES
SCHOOL PARTNERSHIPSBaltimore Center Stage is dedicated to serving students of a diverse population, of all learning abilities, through our unique School Partnership Program. Through these dynamic partnerships, we introduce young people to theater, and help students from grades 1-12 engage, reflect, and respond to the work on our stages. We help classroom teachers use theater to promote positive social and emotional growth, catalyze academic learning, spark critical thinking, and encourage students to write. A select number of schools are awarded free school partnerships with all the benefits listed below, plus free buses and tickets!

STUDENT MATINEESAt just $15 per ticket, the theater is your classroom. Our Student Matinee Series allows teachers to introduce their students to theater with performances, talk-backs, and materials from our Education Department. Student Matinees are an opportunity for students of all ages to experience professional theater in a performance all their own. All Student Matinees are followed by a post-show discussion with the actors. Pre- and post-performance workshops led by our teaching artists are available for purchase. They provide an in-depth view into the production process, thorough discussion, and a chance to discuss careers in the arts.
FOR SCHOOLSSCHOOL PROGRAMS STORIES MAKE THE WORLD RESIDENCYIn this program, students work with a professional Baltimore Center Stage teaching artist to write, rehearse, and present a short story of their own. Stories Make the World is a unique eight-week storytelling workshop program that addresses Common Core Learning Standards in writing, speaking and listening, and language. Classroom teachers receive embedded professional development to find new ways to engage students in writing. All residencies culminate in a story slam event held at each partnering school.
YOUNG PLAYWRIGHTS FESTIVAL RESIDENCYThis high quality signature program teaches playwrights and students throughout the state. Over eight weeks, students learn the playwrighting process and produce short plays that are submitted to our annual Young Playwrights Festival competition. Students in grades 1–12 are given tools to communicate their ideas, develop characters, write dialogue, and shape their stories. A limited number of Young Playwrights Festival Residencies are offered FREE to under-resourced schools.
