News from the Director of Music
Christ is Risen! CHRIST IS RISEN INDEED!
We are very blessed at the First Presbyterian
Church of Cazenovia to be able to proclaim our
Savior’s re-birth, not only by the word, but through music and
the gifts that our congregation and community are able to give!
First, I’d like to thank the Senior Choir for all they
give! The Easter season brings extra services, extra music and
extra rehearsals to add onto our busy schedules. The Senior
Choir is always steps up and exceeds the expectation of just
supporting worship. Music is part of our church culture at Caz
Pres, and the choir makes that happen week after week!
Secondly, our Jubilate Choir has come a long way since
I started almost two years ago. We were extremely blessed to
have the kids play a two pieces on Palm Sunday for the
prelude. Since we moved into playing hand bells now, the kids
were able to show you some of the special techniques they’ve
been learning.
Next, we must recognize the outstanding job performed
by our guest musical soloists. Mary Coburn on violin is always
a very welcome addition to our Tenebrae service on Maunday
Thursday. Although the service is usually somber, the violin
brings such emotion to very meaningful music. Thank You
Mary!
Easter Sunday is always a treat with special brass
music! This year Kevin Johnson and his student Derek White
joined us on trumpet. It’s always such a pleasure to have Kevin
join us and really end the Lenten Season with a bang!
Finally, our thanks go to the Reverend Dr. George
Van Arnam. As many of you know, our Easter service this
year was George’s last Sunday preaching in Cazenovia.
George has held a special place in our hearts for a long time as
he as filled our pulpit during this interim, and for many years
prior. Best of luck George, in your retirement and warmer
weather! We’ll miss you!
Just a quick reminder, the summer music season is right
around the corner. If you or a family member would like to
share your gifts while the choir is on break during the summer,
please drop me a note: [email protected]
Many Thanks and God Bless,
Vince Guarneiri

additionally, the congregation donated enough
supplies to assemble another 24 kits! These will be
stored at Church World Service and ready to go when
another emergency occurs.

cream sundaes to share with community members.
Please invite family and friends to join in this
celebration of welcoming summer.

children three and under. Please join the other
children and caregivers at the Wendell House.
Pick up after Sunday School
For safety reasons, we hold our younger
students in the Wendell House. Please
come pick up your children after
worship. The older students, with their
parents’ permission, go to choir practice
as it starts right after worship. The door to the Wen-
dell House will be locked during Sunday School so if
you need to enter after Sunday School starts please
ring the doorbell and someone will let you in.
Thanks so much for your support.

Donna Denison wishes to thank
everyone in our congregation for the
wonderful response to her
request for financial support of the
Annual MS Walk held on March 6th
at Destiny USA. Many generous
donations were submitted to MS
Resources, which will benefit over
1500 clients in the Central NY area. A wide range
of services are provided by this organization which
enrich the everyday lives of those living with Multi-
ple Sclerosis. Your support was greatly appreciated.
PNC Update During the past several
weeks, we have had the
opportunity to personally
meet with several pastoral
candidates. These
candidates were thoroughly
interviewed, while we showed off our church
and community to them. You may have noticed
the absence of the entire PNC on several
Sundays while we watched each of them give a
sermon at a local church. These meetings have
been extremely helpful in allowing us to get to
know the pastors to ensure that they would be a
welcome addition to our church. At this time,
we are working diligently, as a committee, to
determine which pastor we would like to offer
an invitation. While it is encouraging that we
are closer to the end of our mission, we still
have many things to negotiate with the nom-
inated pastor and hope that the nominated pastor
is also hearing the Call to join our church fami-
ly. Your prayers are extremely important and
welcome as we continue our work.

Welcome to our new Office
Profession/ Financial
Assistant, Treva Purcell.

Woodstock, NY and
attended Cazenovia
Elementary and Middle
School before moving
North and graduating from
Camden High School and then Bryant & Stratton
College. She moved back to Cazenovia in 2007
and lives in the village. Along with working at the
Church, she also owns her own business, Treva
Purcell Photography, and teaches belly dance clas-
ses at Allure Dance Studio. She brings strong
organizational skills, computer proficiency,
creative thinking and a beautiful smile. Treva has
three children: Collin is a Junior majoring in
theater at Hamilton College; Gaevin is a Freshman
at SUNY Morrisville majoring in Culinary Arts;
and Helen is in 10th grade at Cazenovia High
School with an interest in Math and Science, flute,
lacrosse, and she also volunteers at CAVAC. Tre-
va’s regular office hours are Monday-Friday from
Outreach Update The Outreach Committee had its first meeting of 2016 on March 13th. At this meeting we welcomed
Andrea Conway who updated us regarding the mission with which she and her husband are involved. In
December, our church, through Outreach, donated $3,000 to Return Ministries International to support the
building of a bigger Children’s Home in Busega, Uganda.
Andrea presented photographs of the construction project that clearly display the significant progress
that has been made as a result of our congregation’s generosity. As you can see from the before-and-after
photos , $3,000 goes a long way in helping this community build a larger, safer, cleaner facility for the or-
phaned children.
At the March 13th meeting, many worthy organizations that we have supported in prior years received
donations to assist them in continuing their exceptional work. After a detailed presentation by Donna
Denison, the committee voted to give $500 to M.S. Resources of CNY .CRIS/CAT and College Guild also will
receive $500 each to help Cazenovia’s senior citizens with transportation and offer courses to prisoners,
respectively. $400 was donated for meals at the Ronald McDonald House.
Please remember to support Outreach’s annual Lenten drive for health and hygiene kits for Church
World Service. There is a box in the narthex where you can drop off your kits. They will be delivered after
Easter Sunday.
The Outreach Committee wishes a “Happy Easter” to all members of First Presbyterian Church and
their families!

Help is Available!!!
If you, or someone you know, is in
occasional need of help to take care of small
items around the house or yard that used to
be handled personally, the Deacons would
like to offer assistance. If the task is a
larger one, we may be able to coordinate
efforts of local youth volunteer groups that
are looking for community service projects.
Please contact one of the Deacons personal-
ly or call the church office at 655-3191.
