1 Safety Instructions

1.1 Pictographs The following pictographs will be used throughout the present operating instructions: Indicates shock hazard Contacting components under tension may lead to death. Housing marked with this symbol may only be opened by qualified electricians after having disconnected the device from the mains supply (supply voltage, operating voltage or input terminal voltage). Indicates safety relevant passages You will find this pictograph as an indicator for occupational safety measures. The neglecting of such measures poses a serious hazard. Always observe the instructions and be particularly attentive and careful. Avoid any situations that could at any time be a danger to persons or machines. Indicates important information or instructions This symbol brings your attention to important information or instructions on how to secure a long serviceable life of the radio telecontrol system. 1.2 General Safety Instructions Radio controls facilitate and increase the operating efficiency of cranes and machines. Nevertheless, the operator must thoroughly understand and be in a position to properly use a radio system!

For the safe and accident-free operation of the radio system it is essential that you adhere to the instructions and precautions mentioned in the present manual as well as to accident prevention regulations. Failure to follow instructions and safety regulations can prove fatal for the operator or others.

Read the Operating Instructions Manual carefully and thoroughly before working with the receiver for the first time!

Keep this manual on location and readily available at all times! Only authorized and properly trained personnel may operate the radio system

(transmitter and receiver). Anyone who is under the influence of drugs, alcohol or medications that have a

detrimental effect on a person's reactions may at no time commission, operate, maintain or repair the receiver.

Before switching the transmitter on ensure that no-one is or can be endangered by the initiated operation.

With the first signs of any malfunction related to the operative safety and reliability of the device the operator must immediately shut down or not activate the radio receiver. For the purpose of the present manual "shut down" implies: – switching OFF the transmitter, – storing the transmitter in a safe place and ensuring no unauthorized access, – de-energizing the receiver, – unplugging the connection cable on the receiver!

Defects must be repaired and objects of interference must be removed immediately! A defective radio receiver may only be repaired by qualified and competent

personnel. Use only original HBC spare parts. The device security cannot be guaranteed with the use of spare parts other than HBC originals, and this voids our extended warranty. Only the legal warranty regulations are then applicable.

Observe all periodical tests and inspections that are required by law or recommended in the present operating instructions!

When using the radio receiver always observe the regulations and instructions stipulated in the authoritative worker safety and accident prevention regulations! – The radio receiver has been manufactured in accordance with the regulations

and guidelines stipulated in the German Trade Association's "Safety and Accident Prevention Regulations for Operating Cranes by Radio Controls" (BGV D6) and DIN EN 13557.

– The radio receiver has been tested and approved in accordance with EMC guidelines and complies with the authoritative standards for emitted interference and interference immunity.

1.3 Safety Instructions for Installation and Operation Before mounting, installing and commissioning the radio receiver, read the operating

instructions for the radio transmitter thoroughly. Use the transmitter cautiously and properly. In particular when using a transmitter to

telecontrol a machine or crane for the first time. Always mount the radio receiver with the cable connection downwards. Connect the radio receiver to the correct line voltage only!

Warning – shock hazard!

Only skilled and qualified persons may connect the radio receiver to the mains supply in accordance with the enclosed output wiring instructions.

Various components within the radio receiver housing conduct electricity. Contact to these components as well as to mains voltage is hazardous!

Only connect the radio receiver to machines or cranes that are designed for remote controls.

Prior to welding the crane or machine disconnect the connection cable to the crane or machine. Switch off the radio system as well as the crane or machine.

In case of an emergency or any disturbances within the working range of the crane or machine, switch the transmitter off immediately by actuating the STOP pushbutton. If necessary, disconnect the radio receiver from the mains supply. Should the transmitter or receiver show signs of technical failure or breakdown, disconnect the radio system immediately!

Switch the transmitter off during breaks and after finishing work to avoid any misoperation of crane or machine by unintended activation of the operator controls. – These precautions are particularly important whenever changing your position or

climbing over an obstacle. Never leave an activated transmitter unattended. The operator undertakes to follow

and comply with the authoritative regulations for worker safety and accident prevention.

2 Installation and Electrical Connection Warning – shock hazard!

The electrical connection may only be carried out by skilled personnel. It must be ensured that the technical data of the system be followed. The connection

must be made corresponding to the enclosed output wiring schematics. Please pay special attention to the fact that – at different plants – power supply is

fed at the components inside of the receiver. This may possibly cause danger to life. The radio receiver is mounted by means of rubber-metal vibration dampers that are screwed into the mounting brackets (item ) located on the back of the unit. When mounting the receiver, please ensure that the antenna that is connected on top by means of a bayonet plug (item ) is free on all sides in order to ensure an all-round radio reception without any interference. This also means that any contact of the antenna with parts located at the point of installation should be avoided. When this is not possible, an offset antenna (optional) should be used. The plug connection (item ) supplied with the system is used to connect the radio receiver to the electrical system of the crane or machine If necessary, it is possible to remove the cover of the radio receiver for commissioning of the radio plant. In addition to the display panel for control lamps for the four most important system messages, it is possible to check the switching function of each single output relay by means of the corresponding LED. Note: – To avoid damaging components, the commissioning of the radio system should only

be carried out by skilled and qualified personnel with expert knowledge of electronic components.

– Before activating the radio system, study the description and instructions for using the indicator lamp panel.

Proper Installation of the Radio Receiver • The receiver should be mounted vertical with the cable connection downwards.

• Ensure that there are no metal parts within a radius of 1 m (3 feet) above the receiver.

• When the receiver has to be mounted into a control cabinet, an offset antenna must be installed.

Proper Installation of the Radio Receiver with focus D The module focus D includes the radio communication unit of the receiver. Therefore the right position of the module is a very important aspect regarding the signal strength and the range. Due to the magnetic socket of the module the installation is very simple. Please take into consideration the following points: • The receiver should be mounted vertical with the cable connection downwards.

• Do not install the focus D into a control cabinet.

• There may be no metal parts within a radius of 1 m (3 feet) above the base of the module.

• The focus D should be visible from all sites of the working area.

2.1 Radio Status Panel The control display with LEDs indicating the operating state of the radio system is located behind the inspection window of the receiver cover lid.

The LEDs have the following significance: Ein / On / Marche / Acceso (yellow) is illuminated as soon as operating voltage is present at the receiver, i.e. the connection to the electronic of the crane or machine is established and operating voltage (12 V) is present. HF / RF / H.F. / HF (red) is illuminated whenever the transmitter is switched off. It will be extinguished the very moment a signal is received by the receiver on its radio frequency. Note: – Should the "HF/RF/H.F./HF" LED be extinguished while the transmitter is switched

off, then this indicates that the radio channel is also utilized by another transmitter. – In the case of a switching off of the electronic system as a result of radio

interference it is recommended for you to also switch off your transmitter and monitor if the "HF/RF/H.F./HF" LED is extinguished nevertheless. Exception: With radio systems that are equipped with a frequency selector function (optional), the "HF/RF/H.F./HF" LED will either extinguish or flash. This indicates that the receiver is searching (scanning) the stored frequencies available for its specific transmitter.

Si 1 (green) permanently illuminates after the transmitter is switched on, i.e. the receiver has identified its specific transmitter on the basis of the common message address (code). Safety circuit Si 1 is enabled. Si 2 (green) refers to the internal safety circuit Si 2, responsible for a double switching off of the move commands whenever the control station is in the off (ZERO) position, i.e. "Si 2" will not be illuminated. It is not until one or several drive commands (e.g. turn, trolley traveling, lifting gear or crane traveling) are input that the "Si 2" LED may be illuminated!

2.2 Cable Control Option The system can also be used with the control-cable. While using the cable instead of the radio-transmission the RF-modules will be switched off. Connecting the cable: 1. Switch off the transmitter with the key switch.

(Receiver may remain switched on). 2. Remove the screw lock on the transmitter and receiver. 3. Connect the transmitter and the receiver with the cable.

Ensure that the connector is locked (clockwise). 4. Switch on the transmitter with the key switch. The system is now fully functional by cable. Note: – When the system is in cable mode the transmitter will receive the supply-voltage

from the receiver. I.e. the transmitter can be used without the battery.

– If you connect the cable while working with the system, the transmitter will switch off automatically. To change to cable mode switch off and on the transmitter with the key switch. The radio-module and the battery are without function.

– To use the system via radio, disconnect the cable from the transmitter and the receiver. The system will switch off. To activate the radio-mode switch the transmitter off and on again with the key switch.

2.3 infrakey Option infrakey is an additional infrared module for the transmitter and the receiver. Due to separate crane activation via infrared link it increases the safety of operation, i.e. the crane can not become inadvertently enabled.

The range of the infrared beam is max. approx. 20 meters (66 feet) and the angle of radiation is 34°. To activate infrakey, press the "(Crane) ON" pushbutton on the transmitter.

infrakey Set-up Please follow these steps when replacing a focus I infrakey receiver, or up-grading an existing radio system with focus I:

1. Connect the focus I infrakey receiver to the radio receiver.

2. Insert a charged battery into the battery compartment of the transmitter.

3. Release the STOP-pushbutton on the transmitter (if locked) and turn on the transmitter.

4. Press the set-up pushbutton on the focus I infrakey receiver until the LED blinks. Release the button.

5. Press the "(Crane) On" pushbutton on the transmitter until the LED on the focus I infrakey receiver blinks rapidly. Release the pushbutton and the LED will go off.

6. Affix the "INFRAKEY OK" sticker above the set-up pushbutton .

The focus I infrakey receiver can now recognize the transmitter's exclusive security telegram.

3 Trouble-Shooting Note: Check the functions with the cabin or the cable control unit first!

Trouble Possible Cause Remedy

Transmitter shows normal service indications but it is not possible to effect control commands.

− The receiver has no service voltage.

− No radio communication is available.

− Check the connecting cable to the receiver.

− Check the fuses in the receiver.

− Check the functions via the LEDs in the radio status panel of the receiver.

Some commands are not carried out.

− The receiver is defective.

− There is an interruption in the connection cable to the crane or machine.

− Check if all connection cables and cable junctions are tight.

− Contact your distributor or the manufacturer if necessary.

4 Maintenance The radio system is largely maintenance-free. The following items should nevertheless be taken into account:

Never "clean" the receiver with a spray of water or with a steam cleaner. If necessary, clean it with a fine brush or soft cloth, please.

If any welding is to be carried out on the crane or machine: – Switch off the radio control system. – Switch off the crane or machine. – Disconnect the receiver connector. If this is not done, the electronic components of the receiver may be destroyed.

Note: In the event of any problems with the radio system, contact your distributor or HBC-radiomatic GmbH.

4.1 In The Event of a Fault Warning: Never operate a crane or machine with a faulty or defective radio system.

Never try to repair the radio receiver electronics! Opening the transmitter housing terminates the manufacturer guarantee. – Send any defective or faulty equipment to your local distributor or to the

manufacturer. They are experts and have the necessary know-how and OEM spare parts.

– Always send transmitter and receiver and enclose a detailed description of the problem.

– Do not forget to enclose your address and telephone number so that we can get in touch with you quickly if necessary.

To avoid damage during transport, use the original packing supplied with the transmitter and receiver, otherwise pack securely. Send the consignment to your distributor or to the following address:
