The PV-T panels can be used in conjunction with other technologies to further enhance energy efficiency if desired. Examples are: Geothermal Heat Storage: Excess heat produced by the PV-T panels can be stored in the ground for use at a later time => summer heat can be used into the winter to maximize energy use. BostonBoston, MA – The U.S. General Services Administration has committed itself to

sustainability at an Earth Day event held today at the Thomas P. O’Neill, Jr. Federal Building.

This solar energy system is designed to produce electricity and hot water through the use of an innovative photovoltaic-thermal hybrid technology that combines a solar panel and thermal collector into a single module. The installed array of hybrid modules will produce approximately 30,000 watts of electricity and 69,000 watts of thermal energy to heat water. The reduction in greenhouse gas emissions associated with this project is estimated to be approximately 64,904 pounds of carbon dioxide, equivalent to the work of 4,993 mature trees. The system is the largest rooftop hybrid solar installation in the U.S and is also the first installation of photovoltaic-thermal hybrid solar technology on a federal or commercial building.
