FAQQ: Where is camp located?A: Where isn’t camp located? We take field trips weekly, but kids are dropped off and picked up at the Quincy YMCA.

Q: What time does camp start and end each day?A: 7:30am-5:30pm.

Q: How do I register for summer camp?A: Registration must be done in person, one camp packet is required for each child and must be completed and turned in at the time of registration. Forms are available at the Welcome Desk or online. All information on the registration form must be completed before you will be allowed to register your child. A $40 activity fee is also required to secure your child’s spot.

Q: What are the qualifications of camp counselors?A: Our counselors are trained in CPR, First Aid, child abuse prevention, emergency procedures, water safety, and our camp curriculum that incorporates values and education. All counselors are over the age of 18 years and must pass a background check prior to employment.

Q: What happens if my camper is sick or gets hurt?A: Parents will be notified by camp personnel if their child has not been feeling well for a period of time and does not seem to be getting any better. Moderate injuries will also be communicated to the parent once proper first aidhas taken place. In the case of a severe injury needing professional medical attention, the parent or guardian willbe contacted immediately.

Q: What is the procedure for when my child needs to take prescribed medication while at camp?A: We will have a form on hand that the parent will be able to complete and we will make sure all medicine is takenproperly and on time. Medication MUST come in the original pharmacy container. It must list clearly the camper’s name, the doctor’s name, the name of the medication, the correct daily dosage, and the correct time of the daythe medication is to be administered.

Q: What is the counselor to camper ratio?A: 15-1

Q: Does my camper need to know how to swim?A: All campers will be participating in swim time. Campers are tested to determine swim ability and if they will be allowed to utilize the deep end of the pool. All lifeguards at the pool are certified.

Q: What sort of clothes should my camper bring?A: Your child will be spending time outdoors throughout the summer. Please have them dress appropriately. We have found that children dressed in breathable layers works best, so that they may adjust their clothes for the temperature and their comfort. Socks and closed-toe shoes are required. You may want to send along an extra change of clothes, just in case. Only swimwear is allowed in the pools. Also, flip flops may be worn on the YMCA’s pool deck.

Q: May campers bring toys and similar items from home to camp?A: We will have show and tell, but please know that anything brought from home is not the YMCA’s responsibility.

Q: Does my camper need to bring lunch/snacks to camp?A: We will feed them lunch everyday. If kids do need a sack lunch we will make sure to tell you a week in advance. We ask for them to bring a snack for the afternoon.

Q: What additional items should my camper bring each day?A: Please pack sunscreen on pool days.

Q: What is a typical day like at camp? Does the camp offer field trips as an activity?A: There is no such thing as a typical day or week at camp. When the camp is not on a field trip, campers will participate in various large and small group activities such as arts & crafts, fishing, games, sport lessons, and swim time. Campers will experience a variety of field trips throughout the summer.

Q: Will my camper be placed in a group with other campers of the same age?A: Yes each camper will have a close group that they will be with everyday.
