PRESIDENT’S MESSAGE The 2019 San Inazio Basque Festival has ended. Over the three days of the festival, the Boise Basque Block hosted thousands of Basques and people embracing the Basque Culture. We were entertained by world renowned dancers, nationally recognized musicians and exceptional athletes. We ate paella, chorizo, solomo, croquetas and pintxos, which we washed down with beer, wine, kalimotxo, sangria, cider and picon punch. We picnicked in the park and enjoyed both games of our children and feats of strength with txinga eramatea. We talked, sang, danced, renewed friendships and made many new friends (both Basque and non-Basque). As president of the Basque Foundation, I’d like to extend a big ESKERRIK ASKO to our Board of Directors and the many, many volunteers who all worked together to make the event a great success. At the July Euzkaldunak Board meeting, the Board of Directors approved the purchase of two tablets that will connect to the existing Square card readers. That means that starting with the September 2019 Membership Dinner, you will be able to pay for your monthly dinner ticket with a credit or debit card.

Our dancers did a great job at San Inazio! Congratulations to them for the incredible performance and contributing to a wonderful festival! Thanks to our teachers, musicians, volunteers, emcees, and the parents who helped put it all together. It’s now time to get ready for the 2019-2020 Boiseko Gazteak season culminating with Jaialdi 2020! The first dancing practice will be on Tuesday, September 24, at 7:00 PM. Registration: Online registration for Boiseko Gazteak will begin on Tuesday, September 3 at the following link: basquecenter.com/community/boiseko-gazteak/. It will be accessible until Tuesday, September 17. You will receive an email notification when registration opens with links to the registration documents. You may also register in person on September 17 at 7:00 PM at the Basque Center. Whether you register online or not, you will need to come to the Basque Center that evening if you need to have your children measured for costumes, have costumes altered, or purchase used costumes, shoes, and other costume accessories. This evening will also be an opportunity to sell your used costume to another parent (if you are selling a costume, please plan to arrive early so that the costume pieces can be priced prior to registration). In order to dance with Boiseko Gazteak, Parents/Guardians (NOT Grandparents) must be members of Euzkaldunak. If you are not currently a member of Euzkaldunak, you may become a member by contacting Patty Gabica-Haas ([email protected]) or register for Euzkaldunak membership during the Boiseko registration on the evening of September 17. New Costume Information: A 50% deposit is required for all NEW costumes and pieces ordered at registration. CHECKS ONLY. We're working with a new team of seamstresses this season. Some costumes will require 1-2 fittings.
Group Organization: Txikituak (txiki) – 4-5 year olds (must be at least 4 by Oct. 1, 2019) Azkarrak – 6-7 years old Txulitoak – 8-10 years old Nagusiak – 11-14 years old

Teachers & Musicians Wanted: The board is also looking for teaching volunteers to assist the directors for each age group. This program cannot continue without the people who are committed to teaching every Tuesday night for nine weeks before Christmas and nine weeks after Christmas. Teaching is also a great opportunity for current high school kids to earn volunteer hours. Please think about joining the crew that continues to pass on our culture to these wonderful kids year after year. Similarly, we are also looking for musicians (txistu, accordion, & tambourine) to provide live music during practices and performances. BOISEKO PILOTA ESKOLA – YOUTH PILOTA SCHOOL
Handball (esku pilota) classes will start on Monday, September 16, and will be (initially) for participants aged 9-13 years old. Classes are free of charge; only motivation, a desire to learn and an ability to attend on a weekly basis are needed from participants. 7 OINKARI PERFORMANCE INQUIRIES
If you are interested in booking the Oinkaris for a performance or special event, you can submit an online performance request or give us a call. Go to www.oinkari.org and click on the “Performance Request” tab to fill out a request form, or call 208- 557-1960 to leave a voicemail on the performance request line. As a 501(c)(3) non-profit, fees from Oinkari performances go directly to operating costs, education, and repertoire development of the group. OINKARI NEW KIDS PRACTICE
It’s a perfect time to join the Oinkari Basque Dancers with this being an exciting Jaialdi year! New Kid practices will begin Sunday, September 8 at noon at Anduiza Fronton (619 Grove St.), and continue on September 15 and 22 at the Basque Center. No prior Basque dance experience necessary, but must be at least 14 years old by Sept 1, 2019 or at least a freshman in high school to join. There will be a New Members Meeting following our first full group practice around 4:00 PM on Sunday, September 29 with the Oinkari Board of Directors.
