GO GREEN Weekend Electronic Giving ~ First of all, the STB Stewardship Council would like to once again encourage all of you to GO Green by enrolling in St. Boniface’s Electronic Giving system for your contributions to the church. Electronic giving saves time, money and the environment, yet only about 10% of STB parishioners avail them to this system. That’s compared to 80% of U. S. households who bank online and use other forms of online bill paying. If you have the need to still drop something in the collection basket, NO PROBLEM! Just grab a reusable card from the back of the lobby on the cabinets that reads “I give electronically” and drop it in the basket each week. Online giving is highly flexible and your contributions can be changed with the click of a mouse. This helps if you happen to be on a variable income or want to continue to support special collections like Christmas and Easter. Going green also helps the church by reducing the purchase and mailing of envelopes and reduces the administrative burden on our staff and volunteers. Thank you for consideration.
Finance Council ~ The Parish Finance Council will meet on Wednesday, September 14 @ 7:15 PM in the Bona Lounge of the Parish Office.
RCIA/RCIC ~ The RCIA (Rite of Christian Initiation for Adults) - RCIC (Rite of Christian Initiation for Children) process for those who are interested in learning more about the Catholic faith begins September 12 @ 6:30 PM in the Acorn Room of the Lower Level. If you know of someone who is interested in becoming Catholic, encourage them to contact the Parish Office for more information.
The ACSA Formula: How our goal is calculated Our parish goal will support the operations of the diocese for the fiscal year 2016-17. Our parish goal is based on the information provided in our Annual Parish Financial Report for the fiscal year 2015-16. The percentage used to determine our parish goal is 11.5% . The goal is based on a formula recommend by the Presbyteral Council and the Diocesan Finance Council and approved by Bishop Paprocki. Our parish’s goal is $133,000.
The STB Finance Council and myself encourages everyone to make a sacrificial pledge/contribution to the annual appeal in order to meet our goal. As for my donation, I am contributing $650.00 toward the annual appeal in gratitude for the services provided to me as a diocesan priest and as a pastor. Fr. Jeff Goeckner

During his free time, Jeremy enjoys reading, writing, watching sports (Go Cardinals!) and spending time with friends and family. Jeremy is exited to serve the St. Boniface community.

USCCB Meditation on Mercy for September 2016
While searching for some information on Holy Doors, I discovered that our USCCB has been writing monthly meditations for the Year of Mercy. Here is the one for September 2016.
"Jesus went around to all the towns and villages, teaching in their synagogues, proclaiming the gospel of the kingdom, and curing every disease and illness. At the sight of the crowds, his heart was moved with pity for them because they were troubled and abandoned, like sheep without a shepherd. Then he said to his disciples, 'The harvest is abundant but the laborers are few; so ask the master of the harvest to send out laborers for his harvest.'" (Mt 9:35-38)
It is a sad fact that we often become immune to the plight of the suffering. We pass those begging on street corners, step around people who are homeless and lying on the sidewalk, or ignore the look of hunger in the eyes of children. Sometimes we think, "Someone else will take care of them," or, "What can my five dollars do to change their situation," or even, "They should just go and get a job." In this passage that we read today, Jesus shows us in actions and words that it is not someone else's responsibility but ours. As Jesus was passing through towns, he would see those who were sick and, moved with pity, stop to cure them. In Misericordiae Vultus, Pope Francis recalls several of Jesus' acts of mercy (e.g., Mt 14:13-21; Mt 15:32-39; Lk 7:11-17). In all of these examples, Jesus acts out of compassion for those who are in distress. (MV, no. 8).
As Pope Francis explains, "What moved Jesus in all of these situations was nothing other than mercy, with which he read the hearts of those he encountered and responded to their deepest need". Not only should we follow Jesus' example in allowing our hearts to respond to the needs of others, but we should also listen to what Jesus calls us to: "The harvest is abundant but the laborers are few; so ask the master of the harvest to send out laborers for his harvest" (Mt 9:37-38). God calls on us to go out into our homes, workplaces, and communities and recognize his love and mercy working through others. God's harvest of mercy is rich and full; we must ask God to make us laborers in his field so that we can better recognize the love of God in others, especially in those we might normally walk past. This month, we celebrate a jubilee for workers and volunteers of mercy, something we all should strive to be. A contemporary example of someone who worked for mercy is Blessed Mother Teresa of Calcutta, who responded to God's call for laborers. In her caring actions for those in the slums of Calcutta, Mother Teresa put into practice the actions of Christ and the call He makes to us all to labor with Him. Our response to those who are suffering, like Mother Teresa's, should be one of love, compassion and mercy.
Reflection Questions
1. In what way is God calling you to work as a laborer in His harvest? While Mother Teresa's life as a Missionary of Charity is an amazing example of acting with compassion toward others, her vocation is not for everyone. What is one thing you can do in your own community to respond to God's call? Consider becoming involved in one of your parish's outreach programs or a local service organization; approach this ministry with the same compassion Christ has for those He ministered to.
2. How can we pay better attention to those who are suffering in our communities instead of ignoring them? What are some things you can do so that your heart is more open to be moved with compassion for those who are suffering?

Stewardship
In the First Reading from the Book of Exodus, God speaks to Moses. In the midst of revealing to Moses what the Israelites have done and how they have violated His trust in them, the Lord says, “I see how stiff-necked this people is.” As is often the case in Holy Scripture, the term “stiff-necked” has a basis in agriculture, and one with which we may not be familiar.
Farmers at that time used the term “stiff-necked” to describe an ox or horse which did not respond to directions. When an animal like that would not move and resisted direction, the animal tended to stiffen and freeze, thus the term “stiff-necked” for one who is stubborn and uncooperative.
God may consider us to be stiff-necked at times, might He not? In spite of the Lord’s appeals to us to trust Him and to follow Him, we sometimes stiffen and resist. Usually we do that because following the Lord may prove uncomfortable for us. God’s terms for us and His expectations of us may sometimes seem unreasonable and even impossible.
Yet, that is the challenge of living stewardship as a way of life. It is not always easy, and it may put us in positions where we feel uncomfortable and even vulnerable. Moses pleads the case for his people to God and the Lord responds to Moses’ plea, his prayer, and Scripture tells us “So the Lord relented in the punishment.” We do need to trust the Lord, and we do need to pray to Him, as He will respond with love and mercy.

Second Collection for Flood Victims in Louisiana
Recent severe weather has left as many as 60,000 homes damaged, with nearly 20,000 people being rescued from the floodwaters. More than 106,000 individuals and families have sought federal disaster aid. Immediate and long-term recovery needs place a tremendous burden on public and private resources. This is a burden we can help carry as the body of Christ. Faced with the loss of their worldly possessions and, in some cases, economic livelihood, the floodwaters have left thousands of families feeling isolated and fearful.
Bishop Paprocki is asking all parishes in the diocese to take up a special second collection for the relief of our sisters and brothers in Louisiana the weekend of September 10/11. Thank you for your generosity.
