Emotional Freedom Technique (EFT) Introduction EFT is a form of psychological acupressure, based on the same energy meridians used in traditional acupuncture to treat physical and emotional ailments but without the invasiveness of needles. Instead, simple tapping with the fingertips is used to input kinetic energy onto specific meridians on the head and chest while you think about your specific problem , whether it is a traumatic event, an addiction, pain, etc. as well as voice positive affirmations. This combination of tapping the energy meridians and voicing positive affirmation works to clear the "shortcircuit" or emotional block from your body's bioenergy system, thus restoring your mind and body's balance, which is essential for optimal health and the healing of physical disease. EFT can be helpful for the following conditions: o Back pain, neck pain, headaches, muscle pain o Running injuries, repetitive stress injuries, tennis elbow, carpal tunnel o Digestive problems, allergies o Sleep problems, anxiety, depression, stress, emotional trauma o Patterns in our lives that are difficult to change o Emotional eating, addiction Technique 1. Identify the issue i.e. neck pain 2. Grade the issue i.e. pain, discomfort, emotion, craving. 3. Tap Karate Chop point to balance the energy in the body and create your affirmation. “Even though I have this problem, I deeply and completely love and accept myself.” Repeat 34 times or as many times as you feel necessary. 4. Tap points 18 while you use the reminder phrase. You may change the reminder phrase to a positive statement after your first round of EFT i.e. “I choose to feel healthy”, while tapping points 18. 5. Relax and take a deep breath in an out. 6. Check in with the original problem. 7. Grade the problem now. 8. Repeat the sequence if necessary. You may want to change your affirmation and reminder phrase based on changes in symptoms.
