In 2011 is het 35 jaar geleden dat Maze een contract tekende bij Capitol Records. Niemandminder dan Marvin Gaye hielp de mannen bij dit avontuur op weg. Onder leiding van decharismatische bandleider en zanger Frankie Beverly had Maze van 1977 tot begin jaren ’90een lange reeks hits in het R&B circuit. Hoewel de groep nooit massaal door het mainstreampubliek werd omarmd verkocht Maze tot nu toe het indrukwekkende aantal van vijf miljoenalbums. Maze en Frankie Beverly zijn nog steeds regelmatig op het podium te bewonderen.
