Game Notes (as of Dec. 19)Taking Control: In Elmira’s 62-47 win over SUNY Potsdam, the EC women took a 21 point lead with 5:42 left in the game. Not only is this the largest lead the Purple and Gold have had this season at any point during a game, it is the biggest lead since last season’s February 4th matchup with Alfred University when EC led by the same amount.

Balara’s Return: Alex Balara ’15 played in just her second game of the season against SUNY Potsdam and she posted 14 points, nine rebounds, five steals, four assists, and two blocks. She now has six games in her career with five steals.

Loya in the Empire 8: Meghan Loya ’16 sits third in the Empire 8 Conference in rebounds per game with 9.5, just 1.4 shy of conference leader, Maisie Pipher ’16 of Houghton College. Loya is also tied for fifth in blocked shots per con-test with 0.8.

Geisler in the Empire 8: Kelsey Geisler ’15 is averaging 3.7 assists per game this season, the third best average in the con-ference, just 0.6 assists per game behind conference leader, Veronica Peck ’16 of Nazareth College. Geisler is also is tied for seventh in the conference in assist-to-turnover ratio with 0.8.

Pochkar From The Charity Stripe: Karli Pochkar ’16 has gone 15-of-18 from the foul line this season. Pochkar’s 83.3 free-throw percentage is tied for second-best in the Empire 8 Conference.

Looking Ahead: The EC women will be back in action Thursday, January 6th when the Purple and Gold travel to Alfred University in an Empire 8 Conference matchup.

Last Time Out: St. John Fisher is coming off an 89-61 win over SUNY Fredonia on December 14th. The Cardinals had four players record double-digits in the win. Bridget Carney ’16 scored a career-high 19 points and added eight rebounds, a steal, and an assist while Mary Kate Cusack ’16 poured in 19 points with five rebounds and a steal. Portia Velasco ’15 and Lunden Cunningham ’18 also chipped in with 14 and 10 points, respectively.

Empire 8 Player of the Week: Portia Velasco ’15 was named the Empire 8 Player of the Week on December 8th for her performance the prior week. Velasco averaged 20.7 points, 4.7 steals, and 2.7 assists per game during the week of three contests. She was named to the All-Classic First Team for the second consecutive year at the Wendy’s College Classic.

All-Time vs. Fisher: St. John Fisher holds the advantage in the all-time series with a 21-6 record against Elmira. In the past three seasons, the Purple and Gold have split each two game series, going 3-3, with four of the six games being decided by four points or fewer.
