(KKTV) - COVID-19 has forced the cancellation of countless events across the country. However, there is still hope for a modified El Paso County Fair in 2020. The El Paso County Fair Advisory Board is looking at holding the 115th Annual County Fair in a whole new way. The proposal would only feature 4-H exhibits and attractions. The fair was originally scheduled for July 11 to the 18 and would have included about 200 activities bringing in approximately 25,000 people. The traditional fair is not an option during a global pandemic. The 4-H Only Fair option would allow for 4-H participants tocomplete their projects and potentially participate at the State Fair. “The El Paso County Fair is a treasured family tradition, and I appreciate the work done to carry that forward in some modified fashion,” said Mark Waller, Chair of the Board of County Commissioners. “While we would love to hold a normal fair, we agree it is unlikely the Governor will loosen restrictions in time. However, this approach is good for those in the 4-H program and we look forward to our regular Fair returning in 2021.The exact details of the proposed fair are still being worked out. Due to the outbreak of RHDV2, RabbitHemorrhagic Disease, in Calhan, Colorado therabbit show will NOT be held at county fair thisyear. Instead we are going to offer a Virtual 4-HRabbit Showmanship contest. The fair board, 4-Hleaders/families, the state veterinarian, and theextension office feel this is the best step inprotecting our youth’s rabbit herds from beingexposed to a rapidly spreading, fatal disease. The contest will be held via zoom on July 8,starting at 9 am. For those interested, you willregister through FairEntry.com which will be openJune 1-22. The fee will be $5 to enter and therewill be belt buckles awarded just like traditionalfair. There will be assigned time slots emailed outbefore the show. We are asking that members belogged on and ready to go 10 minutes before theirassigned time slot. The premium book rules still apply, which meansthose who qualify for small animal round robin areexpected to show at small animal round robin. Hi 4-H dog members, I hope everyone is doing well. The dog superintendents are busytrying to get things put in place to safely start working with youand your dogs again!! We will hold a clinic instead of a dog showsince our members have not been able to get the support theyneed to learn necessary skills. There is more information belowon how we plan to start up so you can make an informeddecision to see if this works for you and your family. For the June 20 - 21 dog show, the dog superintendents areproposing the following:

• We would like to have pre-sign up and schedule times forthe kids to come with 1 parent and their dog to work on skillsin the areas of showmanship, obedience and rally.• We will have 3 clinicians and 1 person for crowd control.• The kids will be rotating every 15 minutes between the 3disciplines, after they finish the last rotation they will leave, and the next scheduled group will be let in.• With 3 clinicians, a person for crowd control, 3 kids and 3parents, that makes 10 people at one time in the Whittemorebuilding.• Agility practices will work the same way, but we will notneed to rotate between disciplines and practices will be heldin the Christie’s arena.

Everyone will be spread out at least 6 feet apart to practicesocial distancing and masks will be worn if possible (please bringyour own mask). Bathrooms will be available for hand washingand sanitizer will be available. There will be no crating in thebuilding so if you have more than 1 dog please be set up tocrate out of your car safely. Please contact Alicia Christie [email protected] to pre-register for this event. Thank you, guys! -Alicia Christie, 2020 El Paso County Fair 4-H Dog Superintendent
