The Beraca Story Beraca Baptist Church in Bire, Leogane is a modern-day Book of Acts church plant. In February 2010, right after the devastating earthquake, the Lord laid on the hearts of Beraca Baptist Church in Brooklyn, NY to leave our work in the Central Plateau of Haiti and go to the epicenter of the earthquake. The call was clear, the Lord spoke to Pastor Mullery Jean-Pierre’s heart and said "Where it’s the darkest, I'll shine the brightest."   The epicenter was in the region of Carrefour and Leogane in western Haiti.

The Beraca Story Leogane, a port town about 29 miles west of the Haitian capital of Port au Prince, was the hardest hit area. We asked the Conference Worldwide Haitian regional director, Withney Pierre, if he had any contacts in the Leogane area. He referred us to Pastor Rosemont Janvier in a small community called Flon in Leogane, Haiti. We conducted medical clinics, crisis counseling and food distribution for an entire week.

The Beraca Story People from one of the neighboring towns called Bire asked if we could come and do a medical clinic for them before we returned back to the US. We said yes. When we arrived the community prepared a local school for our team to work in. We began our time with them with worship and devotion. We told them that everyone will receive food and will get medical attention regardless if they're Christian or not.  We did not want anyone to falsify their conversion experience in order to receive aid.

The Beraca Story We began with a time of worship and praise followed by devotion. We felt the power and presence of God moving among us. Afterwards, one of our elders gave an altar call and 90 people accepted Jesus Christ as Lord and Savior. Normally, we would refer them to a local church to be cared for however, this time we decided to make this a church plant. The next problem we faced was where to put all these people and who would be their pastor.

The Beraca Story Immediately God began providing solutions. The director of the school who witnessed all that took place offered us the school to house the church temporarily. Then Pastor Rosemont offered his assistant pastor to take on the responsibility of leading the small group of new believers. In an instant a church was birthed and provided for. We called the church Beraca Baptist Church in Bire.
