NEW YORK — Ringo Starr is turning an old Beatles favorite into a children’s book. The drummer has a deal with Simon & Schuster’s Children Books for “Octopus’ Garden,” based on one of the few songs the drummer wrote and sang while with the Beatles. The publisher announced Tuesday that the book will come out in Britain this fall and in the U.S. in early 2014. The book will be il-lustrated by Ben Cort, whose credits include “Aliens Love Underpants.”

I am worried about the entry of terrorists through beaches denoting unof-ficial ports with fast motion and suicide bombing mode,” he said.

Chairman of the Indonesia Congress and Convention Association (INCCA) Bali, IB Surakusuma, previously said that coastal

areas of Bali was very vulnerable to be infiltrated by criminals including terrorists from outside Bali. “Entering the APEC Summit 2013, the coastal security of Bali must be tightened. Bali as a world tourism region is highly vulnerable to be targeted by crime and terrorist threats,” he said.

He said the matter of security and comfort for tourists should become a major concern for the government and the entire community of Bali. The authorities would not be able to fully maintain the security of coastal areas due to lack of human resources and personnel.

“I’ve spent my entire career making sure to ignore what critics say and what critics write. Tonight that strategy has changed,” Louis-Dreyfuss quipped as she accepted her award.

Last year’s big drama winner, “Home-land”, lost in all three of its categories. “Mad Men” also failed to win the one category it was nominated in, best drama actress for Elisabeth Moss.

One of the big surprises of the night came from little-known Tatiana Maslany from BBC America drama “Orphan Black”, in which she plays

a woman with several identities. She won best drama actress, beating last year’s “Homeland” winner Claire Danes.

EvEry Temple and Shrine has a special date for it annual Ceremony, or “ Odalan “, every 210 days according to Balinese calendar, including the smaller ancestral shrine which each family possesses. Because of this practically every few days a ceremony of festival of some kind takes place in some Village in Bali. There are also times when the entire island celebrated the same Holiday, such as at Galungan, Kuningan, Nyepi day, Saraswati day, Tumpek Landep day, Pagerwesi day, Tumpek Wayang day etc.

The dedication or inauguration day of a Temple is con-sidered its birth day and celebration always takes place on the same day if the wuku or 210 day calendar is used. When new moon is used then the celebration always happens on new moon or full moon. The day of course can differ the religious celebration of a temple lasts at least one full day with some temple celebrating for three days while the celebration of Besakih temple, the Mother Temple, is never less than 7 days and most of the time it lasts for 11 days, depending on the importance of the occasion.

The celebration is very colorful. The shrine are dressed with pieces of cloths and sometimes with brocade, sailings, decorations of carved wood and sometimes painted with gold and Chinese coins, very beautifully arranged, are hung in the four corners of the shrine. In front of shrine are placed red, white or black umbrellas depending which Gods are worshipped in the shrines.

In front of important shrine one sees, besides these umbrellas soars, tridents and other weapons, the “umbul-umbul”, long flags, all these are prerogatives or attributes of Holiness. In front of the Temple gate put up “Penjor”, long bamboo poles, decorated beautifully ornaments of young coconut leaves, rice and other products of the land. Most beautiful to see are the girls in their colorful attire, carrying offerings, arrangements of all kinds fruits and colored cakes, to the Temple. Every visitor admires the grace with which the carry their load on their heads.

Jokes and laughter actually graced the racing activities. Type of games varied, so that all the staff and employ-ees could get involved. Amlapura (Bali Post)-Blamed to have stolen pine woods in

He was arrested at his boarding house at Jalan Kusuma Bangsa IV/1C, room No.7, Pemecutan Kaja village, Northern Denpasar, Monday (Jun 10) at 12:00 a.m. When the case would be developed by police, the culprit even tried to flee. Police were forced to shoot his legs after three warning shots were ignored.

Badung Police Chief, I Komang Suartana, when asked for his confirmation on Tuesday (Jun 11) justified the arrest of robbery and rape culprit. He explained the case was still in the process of development. “Until now, the case is still under development,” he said.

A source in police station said the arrest process against the culprit took a long time. After receiving a report from the victim if she had been robbed and raped, police immedi-ately moved to investigate the crime scene and conducted the examination of witnesses. It was not only undertaken in Bali but also outside Bali such as Lombok. Even, prior to assigning the criminal detective personnel, the investigators made a facial sketch of the culprit. Well, the results of investigation indicated if the culprit was at his home vil-lage in Lombok. Ultimately they departed to the target area. Unluckily, after a week in Lombok, the personnel found nothing.

Though giving no result, police did not lose heart to hunt down the culprit. They

continued to search for information related to the presence of the culprit. At the end, the of-ficers received information if the culprit had been back to Bali. To that end, police tracked down the culprit to his boarding house. They dug up information in the field.

Finally, boarding house of the culprit could be tracked at Jalan Kusuma Bangsa IV/1C, Pemecutan Kaja village, Northern Denpasar. Since the culprit was said to occupy the room number 7, police then im-mediately make a raid. The culprit could be arrested and secured to the Northern Kuta Police.

“The culprit has admitted the rape action, but the robbery has not. As a consequence, police still continue to develop the case,” he said while asking his name not to be published. Further, he said that Junaedi was a notorious robber and rapist. It was evident from his background.

From police’s note, the culprit was re-ported to get involved in robbery cases in Denpasar and Gianyar. For example, in the Gianyar region, the culprit was touted to have robbed the child of Korean Embassy in Ubud. Even, the culprit was arrested and punished Gianyar correctional institution. “The culprit was just released from the Gianyar correctional institution,” he added. (kmb21)

Gilimanuk Harbor to tighten checks ahead of numerous international events in Bali is at risk of not meeting the target of installation. Meanwhile, the APEC Summit implementation is only four months to go. But the device worth billions of rupiahs, in fact, cannot be used.

The security device, according to information, used to examine four-wheeled vehicle has been idle in the inner courtyard of the Jembrana Police for half year. Similarly, its placement is unclear in which checkpoint to be placed. Moreover, the current Post II and Post III (cargo vehicles) in the port area have very limited space.

Like in previous years, the officers remained to rely on manual inspection as made by the Jembrana Police personnel, Gilimanuk Marine Police, Mobile Brigade and Public Order Officer (Satpol PP) for identity card inspection.

Inspection of cargo cannot be done maximally and comprehensively if they still apply the old method. Cargo inside the truck or box van, for example, cannot be entirely identified. There is possibility if they are used for dispatching hazardous goods, weapons, explosives or drugs.

In Post II, the officers check the papers of motorcycles and private cars along with their baggage. Meanwhile, in Post III having more spacious courtyard is used to inspect bus, box van and tourist vehicle. Narrow area complicates the inspection especially when two or three vessels are unloading simultaneously. As a result, such condition kindles longer queue and complicates the officers. Sometimes, the trucks directly move without inspection. If they are inspected, the officers will not be able to totally unload the freights one by one. Therefore, it is required the X-ray security device.

Unclear

Based on information, there was no indication where the security device would be installed, even though the implementation of summit had been four months to go. Whether it would be installed inside or outside the harbor area was unclear. Moreover, the inspection at the harbor area chiefly Post II would be relocated to Segara Temple of Gilimanuk because the road would be concreted in the near future. Jembrana Police Chief, Komang Sandi Arsana, when asked about the use and when it would be installed declined to comment.

According to him, it was the authority of the Directorate of Vital Object Security, Bali Police, to answer. Previously, the device drawn by the vehicle of the Vital Object Security arrived in Jembrana last December. Even, a number of personnel of Gilimanuk Marine Police and Jembrana Police had been provided with tutorials to operate the device in the courtyard of Jimbarwana Hotel. NASA said Asteroid 2013 LR6 was discovered about a day before its closest approach to Earth, which occurred at 12:42 a.m. EDT (0442 GMT on Saturday) about 65,000 miles over the Southern Ocean, south of Tasmania, Australia.

The 30-foot-wide (10-metre-wide) asteroid posed no threat. A week ago, the comparatively huge 1.7-mile-wide (2.7-km-wide) asteroid QE2, complete with its own moon in tow, passed 3.6 million miles (5.8 million km) from Earth.

While on February 15, a small asteroid exploded in the atmosphere over Chelyabinsk, Russia, leaving more than 1,500 people injured by flying glass and debris. That same day, an unrelated asteroid passed just 17,200 miles from Earth, closer than the networks of communication satellites that ring the planet.

“There is theoretically a collision possible between asteroids and planet Earth,” astronomer Gianluca Masi, with the Virtual Telescope project, said dur-ing a Google+ webcast that showed live images of the approaching asteroid.

NASA says it has found about 95 percent of the large asteroids, those with diameters 0.65 miles or larger, with orbits that take them relatively close to Earth.

An object of that size hit the planet about 65 million years ago in what is now Mexico’s Yucatan peninsula, triggering a global climate change that is believed to be responsible for the demise of the dinosaurs and many other forms of life on Earth.

In HDR photography, several images are captured within a second, with each image using a different exposure level. The images are then combined to create a composite picture with a higher degree of clarity, depth and detail than would be possible with a single image.

Using photographic software, Federer was able to enhance the contrast in one of her images to reveal the object seen in the photo above.

Federer’s images were ana-lyzed by Ben Hansen, a former FBI special agent and host of the Syfy Channel’s program “Fact or Faked: Paranormal Files.” He believes the images were not faked or manipulated.

“Having reviewed the raw files, there’s no overt indica-tion that the photos have been manipulated with post-editing software,” Hansen told the Post. “The object’s appearance is in-ternally consistent with the rest of the photo.”

Archaeopteryx was a transitional species between dinosaurs and birds that lived in what is now Germany. Scientists believe birds evolved from

theropods, a group of carnivorous dinosaurs taht includes the Tyran-nosaurus rex, during the Jurassic Era, about 150 million years ago.

Only 11 fossils specimens of the elusive creature have been found, and scientists thought any traces of the dinobird’s feathers had long since vanished.

But recently, researchers discov-ered that some fossilized feathers contained traces of melanosomes, pigment-making structures. Last year, researchers analyzed some of these melanosomes and determined that Archaeopteryx sported black feathers.

However, the team sampled just a few spots on the feather, meaning the dinobird’s full plumage pattern was still unknown.

To get a more complete picture of the dinobird, Wogelius and his colleagues used an X-ray beam from a synchrotron radiation light source to do a complete scan of a fossilized Archaeopteryx feather, as well as pigmentation found in the surround-ing rock.

The team discovered trace amounts of chemicals associated with pig-ments, which enabled a reconstruc-tion of the animals’ feather pattern.

Instead of being all black, it turns out Archaeopteryx sported light-and-dark patterned plumage.

The two countries also signed agreements on better bilateral government interactions and cooperation in diplomatic education.

The agreements between Indonesia and Venezuela also concern visa exemp-tion for the holders of diplomatic and official passports, the press release said.

Besides, both countries also signed Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on diplomatic education and training cooperation.

The Venezuela delegation also supported the consensus achievement of draft declaration which will be adopted during the sixth Forum for East Asia and Latin American Cooperation (FEALAC) to be held on June 13-14, 2013 in Bali.

Indonesia and Venezuela have established the bilateral relations since Oc-tober 1959.

The trade balance between the two countries in 2012 reached US$96.6 million with a surplus worth US$95.3 million being enjoyed by Indonesia.

The main export commodities from Indonesia to Venezuela include plastic products, textile, raw rubber, fiber, processed wood and furniture.

SEOUL - A day after snubbing Seoul by offering to send a junior official to hold the first supposedly high-level talks between the two Koreas in six years, North Korea appeared to be refusing to pick up a phone line it re-established just last Friday.

The unpredictable North had called for talks between the two countries in order to try to reopen a money-spinning joint industrial park that it closed in April after threatening the South with nuclear annihilation. The proposed two days of talks were due to start on Wednesday but foundered over disagreement over the seniority of delegates.

Two attempts by Seoul on Wednesday to raise North Korean officials using a Red Cross hotline that was shut by Pyongyang amid rising tension earlier this year failed, according to the Unification Ministry in the South Korean capital.

The ministry said it made calls at 9 a.m. (8 p.m. EDT on Tuesday) on Wednesday

to re-establish contact and at 4 p.m., but they went unanswered. North Korea has not commented on the calls.

The talks had been billed as offering a breakthrough that could see the joint Kaesong industrial park on the border be-tween the two countries re-open. The park generates $90 million a year in wages for North Korea whose economy is smaller than it was 20 years ago.

The North’s failure to turn up for the talks in Seoul appeared to cast a pall over prospects for an improvement in ties between the two sides, still technically at war after their 1950-53 civil conflict ended with a mere truce.

After the talks were called off, South Korea’s presidential office accused the North of trying to humiliate it with its plans to send a junior official.

Some food stalls have been affected by the onslaught of waves where half of the building has collapsed such as the property belonging to H. Muzaki, Mrs. Watik, Pondok Waru 2 and others. Even, some others have already closed because the buildings are destroyed.

Based on information from sur-rounding residents on Tuesday (Jun 11), the food stall owned by H. Muzaki had been destroyed since three years ago. The stall owner had established revetment and spent tens of millions of rupiahs but was unable to stem the waves. The most severe damage was experienced by the food stall of Arianto, 35. It was newly constructed but had started to be eroded by the abrasion.

Arianto revealed that he built it in 2012. After being in operation for five months, part of the build-ing was destroyed by abrasion. He had actually been trying to put up large sized stones but they were finally eroded and buried in the sand. As a result, since the begin-ning of this year his food stall was

closed. Previously, the distance of his food stall branch was far enough from the beach. On that account, he dared to invest for the establishment of the food stall at the location.

In fact, in relatively short time, the land had run out as getting erod-ed by sea waves. Arianto claimed to suffer a loss of IDR 350 million. His other food stall located in the west of the current food stall was also at risk of abrasion. He claimed to worry if the sea water would keep crashing so that he planned to install a breakwater.

Investors have been trying to guess the timetable for the U.S. Federal Reserve to wind down its massive bond-buying program. The $85 billion-a-month asset purchases have helped keep interest rates at historic lows, prompting investors to turn to stocks and commodities in search of returns that outdo bonds.

The government yanked ERT off the air at midnight just hours after announcing the move on Tuesday, in the most dramatic public sector closure yet in the struggle to shore up finances and meet the terms of an international bailout.

Government spokesman Simos Kedikoglou told Reuters the shut-down was decided six weeks ago and was unrelated to the failure to sell state gas firm DEPA or to an ongo-ing inspection visit by EU and IMF lenders in Athens.

The journalists’ union denounced a “coup d’etat” to muzzle information and called for strikes in all Greek media and some ERT journalists were occupying the state broadcaster’s building.

In a potential blow to Greece’s ef-forts to turn around its economy and pull out of a six-year recession, equity index provider MSCI downgraded the troubled euro zone country to emerging market status from devel-oped market on Tuesday.

MSCI said the Athens stock ex-change did not reflect the improved

practices in developed markets for securities borrowing, lending facili-ties, short selling and transferability of shares. It had also not met the developed market criteria for size for the past two years.

The Athens bourse shrugged off the expected downgrade, with the benchmark index up 0.6 percent. Brokers said more money may ended up invested in Greek stocks over the medium term from the coun-try’s weighting in emerging market indices.

“I would not rush to view this as negative. Flow-wise it could turn out positive in the medium term,” said Theodore Krintas, head of wealth management at Attica Bank.

The government decided to pull ERT off air hours after the an-nouncement because of fears that workers would damage state equip-ment, spokesman Kedikoglou said. A slimmed down version of ERT will be relaunched as early as a few weeks and by early autumn at the latest, he said.

“We didn’t shut down ERT, we

temporarily suspended its operations to fix it and make it work on a healthy basis,” he said.

INDEFINITE STRIKEBroadcast journalists began an

indefinite strike in protest, and tele-vision channels carried reruns and documentaries on Wednesday. Staff at the shuttered state channel NET continued broadcasts on the Internet without government approval.

Strikes at newspapers and other print media will begin Thursday, the journalists’ union said.

“The strike will only end when the government takes back this coup d’etat which gags information,” it said.

The government said ERT was a case of “incredible waste” and the shutdown would save taxpayers money. The speed of the shutdown stunned Greeks long used to the slow pace of public sector restructurings.

MANILA, Philippines — Philippine President Benigno Aquino III vowed Wednesday his country will not back down from any challenge to its sovereignty and territory amid a sea dispute with China.

He said in a speech marking the 115th anniversary of the coun-try’s independence from Spain that the Philippines has not claimed territory that clearly belongs to another country but only asks that “our territory, rights and dignity be respected.”

“Aggression does not run in our veins, but neither will we back down from any challenge,” Aquino told government workers, diplomats and supporters at a public square named after revolu-tionary leader Andres Bonifacio, where he also led a flag-raising ceremony.

Aquino said in the next five years, 75 billion pesos ($1.74 bil-lion) will be spent to modernize the armed forces.

He did not mention China by name, but the two countries have an ongoing territorial row in the disputed Spratly islands.

Last month, the Philippines protested the presence of a Chinese warship, two surveillance vessels and fishing boats off a shoal occupied by Filipino troops in the Spratlys in the latest territorial squabble between the two Asian countries.

Ayungin Shoal lies 196 kilometers (122 miles) from the south-western Philippine province of Palawan. It is guarded by a Filipino marine unit based in a rusty warship that ran aground on a coral outcrop several years ago. TOKYO — Japan’s Jiroemon Kimura, who had been recognized by the Guinness World Records as the world’s oldest living person and the oldest man ever, died Wednesday of natural causes. He was 116.

Kimura, of Kyotango, Japan, was born April 19, 1897. Officials in Kyotango said he died in a local hospital, where he had been undergo-ing treatment for pneumonia. According to Guinness, Kimura was the first man in history to have lived to 116 years old.

Kimura became the oldest man ever on Dec. 28, 2012, at the age of 115 years, 253 days, breaking the record set by Christian Mortensen, a Danish immigrant to the United States, whose life spanned from 1882-1998.

The title of oldest living person is now held by another Japanese, 115-year-old Misao Okawa, of Osaka.

Okawa, who was born March 5, 1898, is also the world’s oldest living woman. “Jiroemon Kimura was an exceptional person,” said Craig Glenday, editor-in-chief of Guinness World Records. “As the only man to have ever lived for 116 years — and the oldest man whose age has been fully authenticated — he has a truly special place in world history.”

Kyotango officials said Kimura’s funeral would be held Friday. “Mr. Kimura was and will always be a treasure to our town, to our country and to our world,” said Mayor Yasushi Nakayama.

“Support from the House of Representatives would be needed to provide a legal basis for the project,” he said.

Indonesia as the world`s largest archipelago, would need strong navy and air force to protect its thousands of islands.

Indonesia has agreed with South Korea to cooperate in building the infrastruc-ture for the production of submarines. The cooperation will include in license, engineering manufacturing and production of prototype. Cooperation is already implemented in design technology and in the next two years cooperation is expected to be implemented in engineering manufacturing and prototype.

Indonesia and South Korea also agreed on transfer of technology in the construction of submarines.

Earlier, the government said development of modern factory to produce submarine would be implemented in 2016-2017.

The first submarine to be produced under the cooperation agreement in Korea will be completed in 2014.

Construction of the second submarine will involve Indonesian technicians and production of the third unit will be in Indonesia by PT PAL.

The submarine bases will be built in the Palu bay, Central Sulawesi to be commissioned by the end of this year. All units of Indonesian submarine will be stationed in the Palu bay including the new one produced in Korea.

“Data from Indonesian Chamber of Commerce and Industry (Kadin) shows that the prices and supply of seven strategic food commodities re-main stable and even some of them are down,” he noted here on Wednesday.

Speaking after a coordination meeting between the government and Kadin at his office on Wednes-day, Hatta said the seven strategic food commodities with stable prices and supply were cooking oil, beef and chicken, horticulture products, sugar, flour, fish and shrimp, and rice.

He said from the coordination meeting it was concluded that the prices and supply of strategic food commodities could be made stable by the government together with the

business world.“Although the increase in prices of

some food commodities such as chili and jengkol (pithecolobium jiringa), the government will guarantee the stability and supply of other basic and strategic commodities,” Hatta said.

He added that with the sufficient supply and stable prices, the govern-ment and the business world could maintain the inflation rate.

“The government and Kadin will continue to make coordination and consultation to maintain the prices and supply of those basic necessi-ties,” he said, adding that the state logistics agency, Bulog, would also make intervention to anticipate the fluctuation and speculation of basic necessities prices.

The meeting also expected deliberations on the draft revi-sion of the 2013 state budget could be completed on sched-ule, he said.

“The coalition is expected to save it,” he said.

Asked about the coalition’s commitment to saving the draft revision of the 2013 state bud-

get, he said the coalition had strong commitment to it.

No representative from the Prosperous Justice Party (PKS) showed up at the meeting.

PKS is the only member of President Yudhoyono’s six-par-ty coalition which has decided to oppose the planned fuel price increase.

Earlier, Vice President Bo-ediono said the fuel price hike could no longer be delayed in view of the huge fuel subsidy which reaches up to Rp250 tril-lion every year.

Mexico were booed off the field by a boisterous crowd after being held to a 0-0 draw at home to Costa Rica in the final round of CONCACAF qualifying for the 2014 World Cup on Tuesday, their third successive goalless draw at the Azteca Stadium.

The United States took control of the six-team qualifying group with an impressive 2-0 win over Panama, while Honduras kept alive their hopes of making it to the finals in Brazil next year with a 2-0 win over bottom team Jamaica.

Three teams qualify automati-cally from CONCACAF to next year’s World Cup finals in Brazil while the fourth placed team will meet Oceania winners New Zea-land in a two-legged playoff for one further spot.

The United States lead at the halfway stage of the qualifying round on 10 points from five games followed by Costa Rica on eight points from the same number of games while Mexico are also on eight points having played an extra game.

Honduras have seven points from five games, Panama have six points (five games) and Jamaica two points (six games).

Mexico entered the final quali-fying round in North and Central America and the Caribbean as strong favourites to top the group

but while few would bet against them making it to Brazil, ‘El Tri’ are making hard work of it.

After scoreless draws with Jamaica and the U.S. at home and another away to Panama on Friday, Mexico were under pressure to find their scoring touch but created far too little, which inflamed their fans’ passions.

Fox Sports de Argentina broad-cast images on Tuesday showing the player use both hands to grab the mid-size black-and-white dog by the collar and throw it toward the bleachers during the game. The

dog struck a chain-link fence and fell down, but quickly got up and ran away.

The referee flashed a red penalty card at the player, Jose Gimenez, sig-naling his expulsion from the game between his Bella Vista team and the San Juan team in Tucuman province, which is about 1,300 kilometers (800 miles) north of Buenos Aires.

Gimenez told the newspaper Gazeta de Tucuman that he later felt ashamed by what he did and said he

had been fired from the team. The player said he had a hard time trying to explain to his 3-year-old son “why I had choked a doggie on TV.”

He said he decided to deal with the dog because no one else was trying to get it off the field, “but it wasn’t my intention for this to occur.”

Still, Gimenez complained about the attention caused by the case. “So many things occur in soccer that do not have such re-percussions,” he said.

Mexico were booed off the field by a boisterous crowd after being held to a 0-0 draw at home to Costa Rica in the final round of CONCACAF qualifying for the 2014 World Cup on Tuesday, their third successive goalless draw at the Azteca Stadium.

The United States took control of the six-team qualifying group with an impressive 2-0 win over Panama, while Honduras kept alive their hopes of making it to the finals in Brazil next year with a 2-0 win over bottom team Jamaica.

Three teams qualify automati-cally from CONCACAF to next year’s World Cup finals in Brazil while the fourth placed team will meet Oceania winners New Zea-land in a two-legged playoff for one further spot.

The United States lead at the halfway stage of the qualifying round on 10 points from five games followed by Costa Rica on eight points from the same number of games while Mexico are also on eight points having played an extra game.

Honduras have seven points from five games, Panama have six points (five games) and Jamaica two points (six games).

Mexico entered the final quali-fying round in North and Central America and the Caribbean as strong favourites to top the group

but while few would bet against them making it to Brazil, ‘El Tri’ are making hard work of it.

After scoreless draws with Jamaica and the U.S. at home and another away to Panama on Friday, Mexico were under pressure to find their scoring touch but created far too little, which inflamed their fans’ passions.

The government yanked ERT off the air at midnight just hours after announcing the move on Tuesday, in the most dramatic public sector closure yet in the struggle to shore up finances and meet the terms of an international bailout.

Government spokesman Simos Kedikoglou told Reuters the shut-down was decided six weeks ago and was unrelated to the failure to sell state gas firm DEPA or to an ongo-ing inspection visit by EU and IMF lenders in Athens.

The journalists’ union denounced a “coup d’etat” to muzzle information and called for strikes in all Greek media and some ERT journalists were occupying the state broadcaster’s building.

In a potential blow to Greece’s ef-forts to turn around its economy and pull out of a six-year recession, equity index provider MSCI downgraded the troubled euro zone country to emerging market status from devel-oped market on Tuesday.

MSCI said the Athens stock ex-change did not reflect the improved

practices in developed markets for securities borrowing, lending facili-ties, short selling and transferability of shares. It had also not met the developed market criteria for size for the past two years.

The Athens bourse shrugged off the expected downgrade, with the benchmark index up 0.6 percent. Brokers said more money may ended up invested in Greek stocks over the medium term from the coun-try’s weighting in emerging market indices.

“I would not rush to view this as negative. Flow-wise it could turn out positive in the medium term,” said Theodore Krintas, head of wealth management at Attica Bank.

The government decided to pull ERT off air hours after the an-nouncement because of fears that workers would damage state equip-ment, spokesman Kedikoglou said. A slimmed down version of ERT will be relaunched as early as a few weeks and by early autumn at the latest, he said.

“We didn’t shut down ERT, we

temporarily suspended its operations to fix it and make it work on a healthy basis,” he said.

INDEFINITE STRIKEBroadcast journalists began an

indefinite strike in protest, and tele-vision channels carried reruns and documentaries on Wednesday. Staff at the shuttered state channel NET continued broadcasts on the Internet without government approval.

Strikes at newspapers and other print media will begin Thursday, the journalists’ union said.

“The strike will only end when the government takes back this coup d’etat which gags information,” it said.

The government said ERT was a case of “incredible waste” and the shutdown would save taxpayers money. The speed of the shutdown stunned Greeks long used to the slow pace of public sector restructurings.

MANILA, Philippines — Philippine President Benigno Aquino III vowed Wednesday his country will not back down from any challenge to its sovereignty and territory amid a sea dispute with China.

He said in a speech marking the 115th anniversary of the coun-try’s independence from Spain that the Philippines has not claimed territory that clearly belongs to another country but only asks that “our territory, rights and dignity be respected.”

Aquino said in the next five years, 75 billion pesos ($1.74 bil-lion) will be spent to modernize the armed forces.

Last month, the Philippines protested the presence of a Chinese warship, two surveillance vessels and fishing boats off a shoal occupied by Filipino troops in the Spratlys in the latest territorial squabble between the two Asian countries.

TOKYO — Japan’s Jiroemon Kimura, who had been recognized by the Guinness World Records as the world’s oldest living person and the oldest man ever, died Wednesday of natural causes. He was 116.

Kimura, of Kyotango, Japan, was born April 19, 1897. Officials in Kyotango said he died in a local hospital, where he had been undergo-ing treatment for pneumonia. According to Guinness, Kimura was the first man in history to have lived to 116 years old.

Kimura became the oldest man ever on Dec. 28, 2012, at the age of 115 years, 253 days, breaking the record set by Christian Mortensen, a Danish immigrant to the United States, whose life spanned from 1882-1998.

The title of oldest living person is now held by another Japanese, 115-year-old Misao Okawa, of Osaka.

Okawa, who was born March 5, 1898, is also the world’s oldest living woman. “Jiroemon Kimura was an exceptional person,” said Craig Glenday, editor-in-chief of Guinness World Records. “As the only man to have ever lived for 116 years — and the oldest man whose age has been fully authenticated — he has a truly special place in world history.”

Kyotango officials said Kimura’s funeral would be held Friday. “Mr. Kimura was and will always be a treasure to our town, to our country and to our world,” said Mayor Yasushi Nakayama.

AntaraJAKARTA - Defense Minister Purnomo Yusgiantoro said Indonesia will

soon build infrastructure for the production of submarines.The infrastructure will be built by state shipbuilding company PT PAL in

Surabaya, Purnomo said after a session of the Committee for the Defense In-dustry Policy here on Tuesday.

He said the country is expected to have the infrastructure ready in the next two to three years.

The session of the Committee, which is chaired by Purnomo, also discusses a plan to produce jet fighter planes in the country.

Purnomo said legal umbrella would be needed before any step taken to build the war plane and submarine infrastructure.

“Support from the House of Representatives would be needed to provide a legal basis for the project,” he said.

Indonesia as the world`s largest archipelago, would need strong navy and air force to protect its thousands of islands.

Indonesia has agreed with South Korea to cooperate in building the infrastruc-ture for the production of submarines. The cooperation will include in license, engineering manufacturing and production of prototype. Cooperation is already implemented in design technology and in the next two years cooperation is expected to be implemented in engineering manufacturing and prototype.

Indonesia and South Korea also agreed on transfer of technology in the construction of submarines.

Earlier, the government said development of modern factory to produce submarine would be implemented in 2016-2017.

The first submarine to be produced under the cooperation agreement in Korea will be completed in 2014.

Construction of the second submarine will involve Indonesian technicians and production of the third unit will be in Indonesia by PT PAL.

The submarine bases will be built in the Palu bay, Central Sulawesi to be commissioned by the end of this year. All units of Indonesian submarine will be stationed in the Palu bay including the new one produced in Korea.

“Data from Indonesian Chamber of Commerce and Industry (Kadin) shows that the prices and supply of seven strategic food commodities re-main stable and even some of them are down,” he noted here on Wednesday.

Speaking after a coordination meeting between the government and Kadin at his office on Wednes-day, Hatta said the seven strategic food commodities with stable prices and supply were cooking oil, beef and chicken, horticulture products, sugar, flour, fish and shrimp, and rice.

He said from the coordination meeting it was concluded that the prices and supply of strategic food commodities could be made stable by the government together with the

business world.“Although the increase in prices of

some food commodities such as chili and jengkol (pithecolobium jiringa), the government will guarantee the stability and supply of other basic and strategic commodities,” Hatta said.

He added that with the sufficient supply and stable prices, the govern-ment and the business world could maintain the inflation rate.

“The government and Kadin will continue to make coordination and consultation to maintain the prices and supply of those basic necessi-ties,” he said, adding that the state logistics agency, Bulog, would also make intervention to anticipate the fluctuation and speculation of basic necessities prices.

“Today we had a meeting of government coalition parties. In essence, the meeting led by the President assessed recent developments in the global and national economies,” Na-

tional Mandate Party (PAN) Chairman Hatta Rajasa who is also chief economic minister said at the Jakarta Convention Center (JCC) after the two-hour meeting.

The meeting also expected deliberations on the draft revi-sion of the 2013 state budget could be completed on sched-ule, he said.

“The coalition is expected to save it,” he said.

Asked about the coalition’s commitment to saving the draft revision of the 2013 state bud-

get, he said the coalition had strong commitment to it.

No representative from the Prosperous Justice Party (PKS) showed up at the meeting.

PKS is the only member of President Yudhoyono’s six-par-ty coalition which has decided to oppose the planned fuel price increase.

Earlier, Vice President Bo-ediono said the fuel price hike could no longer be delayed in view of the huge fuel subsidy which reaches up to Rp250 tril-lion every year.

Some food stalls have been affected by the onslaught of waves where half of the building has collapsed such as the property belonging to H. Muzaki, Mrs. Watik, Pondok Waru 2 and others. Even, some others have already closed because the buildings are destroyed.

Based on information from sur-rounding residents on Tuesday (Jun 11), the food stall owned by H. Muzaki had been destroyed since three years ago. The stall owner had established revetment and spent tens of millions of rupiahs but was unable to stem the waves. The most severe damage was experienced by the food stall of Arianto, 35. It was newly constructed but had started to be eroded by the abrasion.

Arianto revealed that he built it in 2012. After being in operation for five months, part of the build-ing was destroyed by abrasion. He had actually been trying to put up large sized stones but they were finally eroded and buried in the sand. As a result, since the begin-ning of this year his food stall was

closed. Previously, the distance of his food stall branch was far enough from the beach. On that account, he dared to invest for the establishment of the food stall at the location.

In fact, in relatively short time, the land had run out as getting erod-ed by sea waves. Arianto claimed to suffer a loss of IDR 350 million. His other food stall located in the west of the current food stall was also at risk of abrasion. He claimed to worry if the sea water would keep crashing so that he planned to install a breakwater.

One of the fishermen, Nuryadi, also admitted if the bamboo wall of his house virtually collapsed be-cause it was often hit by the waves. Even, every night he could not sleep well as the waves continued to grow bigger.

Benchmark oil for July delivery fell 85 cents to $94.53 per barrel at midday Bangkok time in electronic trading on the New York Mercantile Exchange. The contract fell 39 cents to close at $95.38 per barrel on the Nymex on Tuesday.

On Tuesday, oil prices were pressured by OPEC’s disclosure that its members boosted production by 106,000 barrels a day in May. Some experts feel the world already has an ample supply to meet current demand. “Oil prices have slid back after OPEC increased crude output in May while at the same time keeping its 2013 demand forecast unchanged on concerns about the demand outlook,” said Michael Hewson of CMC Markets in an email commentary.

Investors have been trying to guess the timetable for the U.S. Federal Reserve to wind down its massive bond-buying program. The $85 billion-a-month asset purchases have helped keep interest rates at historic lows, prompting investors to turn to stocks and commodities in search of returns that outdo bonds.

However, Julian Jessop of Capital Economics said in a market commentary that a pullback by the Fed wouldn’t impact oil markets greatly, partly because the program “does not seem to have provided much support for commodity prices to begin with, so there may be little to lose when the asset purchases do end.”

Prime Minister Tayyip Erdogan, who has repeatedly dismissed the demonstrators as “riff-raff”, was expected to meet protest leaders on Wednesday though one core group said it had not been invited and would not attend anyway.

“There’s no room for dialogue when there’s ongoing violence,” said Mucella Yapici of the Taksim Solidarity Platform, a core group behind the Gezi Park campaign.

Chanting gangs of hard-core demonstra-tors taunted police in the narrow lanes leading down to the Bosphorus waterway late into the night, drawing more tear gas and water cannon spray. Municipal workers used bull-

dozers to remove the remains of vandalized vehicles and clear the square above.

Police also fired water cannon to disperse protesters in the center of the capital, An-kara. Erdogan earlier called on protesters to stay out of Taksim, where a heavy-handed police crackdown on a rally against devel-opment of Gezi Park triggered an unprec-edented wave of protest in cities across Turkey almost two weeks ago.

SEOUL - A day after snubbing Seoul by offering to send a junior official to hold the first supposedly high-level talks between the two Koreas in six years, North Korea appeared to be refusing to pick up a phone line it re-established just last Friday.

The unpredictable North had called for talks between the two countries in order to try to reopen a money-spinning joint industrial park that it closed in April after threatening the South with nuclear annihilation. The proposed two days of talks were due to start on Wednesday but foundered over disagreement over the seniority of delegates.

Two attempts by Seoul on Wednesday to raise North Korean officials using a Red Cross hotline that was shut by Pyongyang amid rising tension earlier this year failed, according to the Unification Ministry in the South Korean capital.

The ministry said it made calls at 9 a.m. (8 p.m. EDT on Tuesday) on Wednesday

to re-establish contact and at 4 p.m., but they went unanswered. North Korea has not commented on the calls.

The talks had been billed as offering a breakthrough that could see the joint Kaesong industrial park on the border be-tween the two countries re-open. The park generates $90 million a year in wages for North Korea whose economy is smaller than it was 20 years ago.

The North’s failure to turn up for the talks in Seoul appeared to cast a pall over prospects for an improvement in ties between the two sides, still technically at war after their 1950-53 civil conflict ended with a mere truce.

After the talks were called off, South Korea’s presidential office accused the North of trying to humiliate it with its plans to send a junior official.

North Korea’s main diplomatic ally, China, had urged the reclusive state to return to the negotiating table after the country staged its third nuclear weapons test in February. Beijing backed U.N. sanctions imposed after that test.

NASA said Asteroid 2013 LR6 was discovered about a day before its closest approach to Earth, which occurred at 12:42 a.m. EDT (0442 GMT on Saturday) about 65,000 miles over the Southern Ocean, south of Tasmania, Australia.

The 30-foot-wide (10-metre-wide) asteroid posed no threat. A week ago, the comparatively huge 1.7-mile-wide (2.7-km-wide) asteroid QE2, complete with its own moon in tow, passed 3.6 million miles (5.8 million km) from Earth.

While on February 15, a small asteroid exploded in the atmosphere over Chelyabinsk, Russia, leaving more than 1,500 people injured by flying glass and debris. That same day, an unrelated asteroid passed just 17,200 miles from Earth, closer than the networks of communication satellites that ring the planet.

“There is theoretically a collision possible between asteroids and planet Earth,” astronomer Gianluca Masi, with the Virtual Telescope project, said dur-ing a Google+ webcast that showed live images of the approaching asteroid.

NASA says it has found about 95 percent of the large asteroids, those with diameters 0.65 miles or larger, with orbits that take them relatively close to Earth.

An object of that size hit the planet about 65 million years ago in what is now Mexico’s Yucatan peninsula, triggering a global climate change that is believed to be responsible for the demise of the dinosaurs and many other forms of life on Earth.

The U.S. space agency and other research organizations, as well as private companies, are working on tracking smaller objects that fly near Earth.

A transitional species that repre-sents a link between dinosaurs and birds may have sported pale feath-ers that were dark at the tips, a new study suggests.

What started out as a casual sightseeing trip to a historic castle in the Netherlands took a bizarre turn for one Dutch woman, who claims she may have spotted some kind of UFO. Corrine Federer, 43, a business manager and amateur photog-rapher, was visiting medieval Muiderslot Castle outside Am-sterdam last month when she started taking pictures using her camera’s high-dynamic range, or HDR, feature.

“In order to create HDR im-ages, you take three or more exposures … at the same time, because you then overlap the images and it gives you the full spectrum of light,” Federer told The Huffington Post. [Top 10 Alien Encounters Debunked]

Federer took dozens of pho-tos that day, but it wasn’t until sometime later that she reviewed her HDR photos and saw a star-tling airborne shape in some of the images.

“It was a tubular-shaped ob-ject that had an S-shaped fin on it,” Federer said. “If it had been any type of missile, it would’ve had multiple fins, but facing the

same direction. We heard noth-ing. It was completely quiet out. The more I flipped through the frames, it was kind of creepy.”

In HDR photography, several images are captured within a second, with each image using a different exposure level. The images are then combined to create a composite picture with a higher degree of clarity, depth and detail than would be possible with a single image.

Using photographic software, Federer was able to enhance the contrast in one of her images to reveal the object seen in the photo above.

Federer’s images were ana-lyzed by Ben Hansen, a former FBI special agent and host of the Syfy Channel’s program “Fact or Faked: Paranormal Files.” He believes the images were not faked or manipulated.

“Having reviewed the raw files, there’s no overt indica-tion that the photos have been manipulated with post-editing software,” Hansen told the Post. “The object’s appearance is in-ternally consistent with the rest of the photo.”

Archaeopteryx was a transitional species between dinosaurs and birds that lived in what is now Germany. Scientists believe birds evolved from

theropods, a group of carnivorous dinosaurs taht includes the Tyran-nosaurus rex, during the Jurassic Era, about 150 million years ago.

Only 11 fossils specimens of the elusive creature have been found, and scientists thought any traces of the dinobird’s feathers had long since vanished.

But recently, researchers discov-ered that some fossilized feathers contained traces of melanosomes, pigment-making structures. Last year, researchers analyzed some of these melanosomes and determined that Archaeopteryx sported black feathers.

However, the team sampled just a few spots on the feather, meaning the dinobird’s full plumage pattern was still unknown.

To get a more complete picture of the dinobird, Wogelius and his colleagues used an X-ray beam from a synchrotron radiation light source to do a complete scan of a fossilized Archaeopteryx feather, as well as pigmentation found in the surround-ing rock.

The team discovered trace amounts of chemicals associated with pig-ments, which enabled a reconstruc-tion of the animals’ feather pattern.

Instead of being all black, it turns out Archaeopteryx sported light-and-dark patterned plumage.

“The Indonesian delegation head, Ambassador Dian Triansyah Djani, and Venezuela’s Vice Foreign Minister David Velasquez Caraballo signed the agreements on trade, agriculture, education, and culture as well as energy de-velopment investment, the Indonesian Foreign Ministry said in a press release here on Wednesday.

The signing of the agreements was held during the third meeting of Joint Committee Assembly between Indonesia and Venezuela in Nusa Dua, Bali Province.

According to the Indonesian foreign affairs ministry, Venezuelan businessmen were the largest buyers from Latin America during the Trade Indonesia Expo 2012 that reached US$25 million of total transactions.

The two countries also signed agreements on better bilateral government interactions and cooperation in diplomatic education.

The agreements between Indonesia and Venezuela also concern visa exemp-tion for the holders of diplomatic and official passports, the press release said.

Besides, both countries also signed Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on diplomatic education and training cooperation.

The Venezuela delegation also supported the consensus achievement of draft declaration which will be adopted during the sixth Forum for East Asia and Latin American Cooperation (FEALAC) to be held on June 13-14, 2013 in Bali.

Indonesia and Venezuela have established the bilateral relations since Oc-tober 1959.

The trade balance between the two countries in 2012 reached US$96.6 million with a surplus worth US$95.3 million being enjoyed by Indonesia.

The main export commodities from Indonesia to Venezuela include plastic products, textile, raw rubber, fiber, processed wood and furniture.

Development of the pilot proj-ect was undertaken on the area of 5 hectares on the Matahari Terbit Beach. With an appropriate crop-ping pattern, the development of

horticultural crops in Denpasar would be sufficiently potential. As evidence, the pilot project could give good result and qual-ity. “With this demonstration, farmers can see in person and cultivate it at their land later on,” said Ambara Putra.

Ambara added the results of horticultural products were also easier to market. Moreover, before developing the horticul-ture, his party had explored the market share. “The market share has existed, so that we can invite farmers to develop this commod-ity,” he said.

Ambara Putra added that so far the farmers in Denpasar had already planted horticulture such as watermelon, melon, corn and various kinds of flowers. Its planting pattern kept changing in accordance with the water avail-ability. Its existence was pretty much in the Southern Denpasar. EvEry Temple and Shrine has a special date for it annual Ceremony, or “ Odalan “, every 210 days according to Balinese calendar, including the smaller ancestral shrine which each family possesses. Because of this practically every few days a ceremony of festival of some kind takes place in some Village in Bali. There are also times when the entire island celebrated the same Holiday, such as at Galungan, Kuningan, Nyepi day, Saraswati day, Tumpek Landep day, Pagerwesi day, Tumpek Wayang day etc.

The dedication or inauguration day of a Temple is con-sidered its birth day and celebration always takes place on the same day if the wuku or 210 day calendar is used. When new moon is used then the celebration always happens on new moon or full moon. The day of course can differ the religious celebration of a temple lasts at least one full day with some temple celebrating for three days while the celebration of Besakih temple, the Mother Temple, is never less than 7 days and most of the time it lasts for 11 days, depending on the importance of the occasion.

The celebration is very colorful. The shrine are dressed with pieces of cloths and sometimes with brocade, sailings, decorations of carved wood and sometimes painted with gold and Chinese coins, very beautifully arranged, are hung in the four corners of the shrine. In front of shrine are placed red, white or black umbrellas depending which Gods are worshipped in the shrines.

In front of important shrine one sees, besides these umbrellas soars, tridents and other weapons, the “umbul-umbul”, long flags, all these are prerogatives or attributes of Holiness. In front of the Temple gate put up “Penjor”, long bamboo poles, decorated beautifully ornaments of young coconut leaves, rice and other products of the land. Most beautiful to see are the girls in their colorful attire, carrying offerings, arrangements of all kinds fruits and colored cakes, to the Temple. Every visitor admires the grace with which the carry their load on their heads.

He was arrested at his boarding house at Jalan Kusuma Bangsa IV/1C, room No.7, Pemecutan Kaja village, Northern Denpasar, Monday (Jun 10) at 12:00 a.m. When the case would be developed by police, the culprit even tried to flee. Police were forced to shoot his legs after three warning shots were ignored.

Badung Police Chief, I Komang Suartana, when asked for his confirmation on Tuesday (Jun 11) justified the arrest of robbery and rape culprit. He explained the case was still in the process of development. “Until now, the case is still under development,” he said.

A source in police station said the arrest process against the culprit took a long time. After receiving a report from the victim if she had been robbed and raped, police immedi-ately moved to investigate the crime scene and conducted the examination of witnesses. It was not only undertaken in Bali but also outside Bali such as Lombok. Even, prior to assigning the criminal detective personnel, the investigators made a facial sketch of the culprit. Well, the results of investigation indicated if the culprit was at his home vil-lage in Lombok. Ultimately they departed to the target area. Unluckily, after a week in Lombok, the personnel found nothing.

Though giving no result, police did not lose heart to hunt down the culprit. They

continued to search for information related to the presence of the culprit. At the end, the of-ficers received information if the culprit had been back to Bali. To that end, police tracked down the culprit to his boarding house. They dug up information in the field.

Finally, boarding house of the culprit could be tracked at Jalan Kusuma Bangsa IV/1C, Pemecutan Kaja village, Northern Denpasar. Since the culprit was said to occupy the room number 7, police then im-mediately make a raid. The culprit could be arrested and secured to the Northern Kuta Police.

“The culprit has admitted the rape action, but the robbery has not. As a consequence, police still continue to develop the case,” he said while asking his name not to be published. Further, he said that Junaedi was a notorious robber and rapist. It was evident from his background.

From police’s note, the culprit was re-ported to get involved in robbery cases in Denpasar and Gianyar. For example, in the Gianyar region, the culprit was touted to have robbed the child of Korean Embassy in Ubud. Even, the culprit was arrested and punished Gianyar correctional institution. “The culprit was just released from the Gianyar correctional institution,” he added. (kmb21)

Negara (Bali Post)—The X-ray security device distributed to Jembrana Police and scheduled to be placed at

Gilimanuk Harbor to tighten checks ahead of numerous international events in Bali is at risk of not meeting the target of installation. Meanwhile, the APEC Summit implementation is only four months to go. But the device worth billions of rupiahs, in fact, cannot be used.

The security device, according to information, used to examine four-wheeled vehicle has been idle in the inner courtyard of the Jembrana Police for half year. Similarly, its placement is unclear in which checkpoint to be placed. Moreover, the current Post II and Post III (cargo vehicles) in the port area have very limited space.

Like in previous years, the officers remained to rely on manual inspection as made by the Jembrana Police personnel, Gilimanuk Marine Police, Mobile Brigade and Public Order Officer (Satpol PP) for identity card inspection.

Inspection of cargo cannot be done maximally and comprehensively if they still apply the old method. Cargo inside the truck or box van, for example, cannot be entirely identified. There is possibility if they are used for dispatching hazardous goods, weapons, explosives or drugs.

In Post II, the officers check the papers of motorcycles and private cars along with their baggage. Meanwhile, in Post III having more spacious courtyard is used to inspect bus, box van and tourist vehicle. Narrow area complicates the inspection especially when two or three vessels are unloading simultaneously. As a result, such condition kindles longer queue and complicates the officers. Sometimes, the trucks directly move without inspection. If they are inspected, the officers will not be able to totally unload the freights one by one. Therefore, it is required the X-ray security device.

Unclear

Based on information, there was no indication where the security device would be installed, even though the implementation of summit had been four months to go. Whether it would be installed inside or outside the harbor area was unclear. Moreover, the inspection at the harbor area chiefly Post II would be relocated to Segara Temple of Gilimanuk because the road would be concreted in the near future. Jembrana Police Chief, Komang Sandi Arsana, when asked about the use and when it would be installed declined to comment.

According to him, it was the authority of the Directorate of Vital Object Security, Bali Police, to answer. Previously, the device drawn by the vehicle of the Vital Object Security arrived in Jembrana last December. Even, a number of personnel of Gilimanuk Marine Police and Jembrana Police had been provided with tutorials to operate the device in the courtyard of Jimbarwana Hotel. to immediately install the X-ray device, continue to check and be aware of the security threats, especially terrorists.

“For convincing tourists visiting Bali related to security matters, the X-ray de-vice should be installed in strategic places and shortcuts used as the entry point of terrorists. I am worried about the entry of terrorists through beaches denoting unof-ficial ports with fast motion and suicide bombing mode,” he said.

Chairman of the Indonesia Congress and Convention Association (INCCA) Bali, IB Surakusuma, previously said that coastal

areas of Bali was very vulnerable to be infiltrated by criminals including terrorists from outside Bali. “Entering the APEC Summit 2013, the coastal security of Bali must be tightened. Bali as a world tourism region is highly vulnerable to be targeted by crime and terrorist threats,” he said.

He said the matter of security and comfort for tourists should become a major concern for the government and the entire community of Bali. The authorities would not be able to fully maintain the security of coastal areas due to lack of human resources and personnel.

Julia Louis-Dreyfus, star of HBO’s political comedy “Veep”, won best com-edy series actress, while Louis C.K. of FX’s “Louie” picked up best comedy se-ries actor for the second year running.

“I’ve spent my entire career making sure to ignore what critics say and what critics write. Tonight that strategy has changed,” Louis-Dreyfuss quipped as she accepted her award.

Last year’s big drama winner, “Home-land”, lost in all three of its categories. “Mad Men” also failed to win the one category it was nominated in, best drama actress for Elisabeth Moss.

One of the big surprises of the night came from little-known Tatiana Maslany from BBC America drama “Orphan Black”, in which she plays

a woman with several identities. She won best drama actress, beating last year’s “Homeland” winner Claire Danes.

Winners of the third annual Critics Choice Television Awards were chosen by members of the Broadcast Television Journalists Association, and handed out at a gala dinner in Beverly Hills, hosted by “Parks and Recreation” actress Retta.
