NEW YORK — Ringo Starr is turning an old Beatles favorite into a children’s book. The drummer has a deal with Simon & Schuster’s Children Books for “Octopus’ Garden,” based on one of the few songs the drummer wrote and sang while with the Beatles. The publisher announced Tuesday that the book will come out in Britain this fall and in the U.S. in early 2014. The book will be il-lustrated by Ben Cort, whose credits include “Aliens Love Underpants.”

Starr, who turns 73 next month, first wrote the song while on Peter Sellers’ yacht in 1968. Starr and Sellers co-starred in the film “The Magic Christian.” “Octopus’ Garden” first appeared

Forum which will be regularly attended by the heads of state and heads of government.

HBO film “Behind the Candelabra” won best mini-series or movie, and Michael Douglas’s turn as the camp and complex Liberace won the best actor in a mini-series or movie prize.

“The Big Bang Theory”, about a group of nerdy scientists, was an early winner on the night, with co-stars Kaley Cuoco and Simon Helberg also winning best comedy supporting actor awards.

Cuoco’s win was tied with Eden Sher of ABC family comedy “The Middle”. “The Big Bang Theory”, in its sixth season beat “Louis”, “New Girl”, “Veep”, “The Middle” and “Parks and Recreation”.

“Game of Thrones”, a medieval fan-tasy war epic, and “Breaking Bad”, about a chemistry teacher-turned-drug king, tied for the Best Drama Series prize.

“Breaking Bad” lead star Bryan Cran-ston won Best Actor in a Drama Series for the second year running, thanking the

critics, saying “if you were not a conduit, we would not be anywhere”.

Julia Louis-Dreyfus, star of HBO’s political comedy “Veep”, won best com-edy series actress, while Louis C.K. of FX’s “Louie” picked up best comedy se-ries actor for the second year running.

“I’ve spent my entire career making sure to ignore what critics say and what critics write. Tonight that strategy has changed,” Louis-Dreyfuss quipped as she accepted her award.

Last year’s big drama winner, “Home-land”, lost in all three of its categories. “Mad Men” also failed to win the one category it was nominated in, best drama actress for Elisabeth Moss.

One of the big surprises of the night came from little-known Tatiana Maslany from BBC America drama “Orphan Black”, in which she plays

a woman with several identities. She won best drama actress, beating last year’s “Homeland” winner Claire Danes.

Winners of the third annual Critics Choice Television Awards were chosen by members of the Broadcast Television Journalists Association, and handed out at a gala dinner in Beverly Hills, hosted by “Parks and Recreation” actress Retta.

Moss, best known for her role as Peggy Olson in “Mad Men,” won best actress in a mini-series or movie for her role as a New Zealand detective in Sun-dance Channel’s “Top of The Lake”. The award was her first accolade for acting, she said in her acceptance speech.

FX’s psychological horror mini-series “American Horror Story: Asylum”, with six nominations, came away with two wins for its stars Sarah Paulson and Zachary Quinto.

Hollywood comedian Bob Newhart was recognized with the Critics Choice

Television Icon award, with actor Henry Winkler, best known as

The Fonz in “Happy Days”, paying homage to Ne-

whart’s long-running career in television.

Jokes and laughter actually graced the racing activities. Type of games varied, so that all the staff and employ-ees could get involved. Among them, there were competitions of making up others in covered face, kepo quiz, inserting nail into a bottle, eating bananas in pairs, clamping balloon run, clogs and sunset game namely a game that only existed in The Sunset Bali Hotel & Restaurant.

The festive atmosphere was also visible at the night peak of the pro-gram. All the present participants gave pride slogans to the owner and

management. Singing of birthday song marked the celebration and then it was resumed with the cutting of cake and rice cone by Fofo Sariatmadja (own-er), accompanied by Susi Sariatmadja and Jongy Manalu (commissioner), Krishna (president director) and Tirta S. Dewa (General Manager of The Sunset Bali Hotel & Restaurant).

Dewa Tirta said the celebration of the second anniversary this year fea-turing the theme ‘New Spirit of New Brand Sunset’ was to foster a new spirit and better work by developing service considering the current tight

competition in the business sector. “Our mission is to serve, so that we still have to serve guests with typi-cal quality services of The Sunset,” he said.

Other than services, added Dewa Tirta, the facilities were also very supportive. Room facilities covered an area of 32 square meters, while the other facilities were free high speed internet access in the entire hotel area, standard amenities and a restaurant with a variety of tasty menus. “We also hold a dinner every night as a service to our guests,” he said. On commemorating the second anniversary, The Sunset Bali Hotel & restaurant undertook more social activities. It was commenced by visiting an orphanage in Gianyar and holding an outing to foster familial relationship. The most glorious moment at the time was the fun game involving all the employees as well as the ad hoc department and management office of PT Jayatama Bali Property in Jakarta.

Amlapura (Bali Post)-Blamed to have stolen pine woods in

the Abang Agung Protected forest, Pem-patan Village, Rendang, Karangasem, housewife Ni Wayan Kartini (34) received 2 months jail punishment and obliged to pay IDR 1 million to subside three months as stated in the Amlapura District Court. Public Prosecutor, I Ketut Sudiarta, SH, who proposed the punishment and Kartini herself agreed to the punishment but this less than what has been prosecuted, four months jail and IDR 1 million subside 3 months. The punishment was less because Kartini is not the main actor.

The main actor is her husband yet he escaped when seen to have cutting the

wood by a senso (electric saw) inside the forest. Until now he is still not captured and unknown of its location since both were caught three months ago. Police found there were four to five points’ 40-50 cm diameter pine trees taken down by the saw. Kartini was compiling the 1 meter woods that were cut by her husband. In the trial, Kartini admitted to have cut it for wood fire in her child’s Balinese birthday. Kartini admitted that her and her husband only cut remaining pines as they have been cut by someone else before who is not known by them. Yet police is still expecting that the woods were cut by someone for an antique asmat statue cre-ator in Gianyar and has a senso. (013)

He was arrested at his boarding house at Jalan Kusuma Bangsa IV/1C, room No.7, Pemecutan Kaja village, Northern Denpasar, Monday (Jun 10) at 12:00 a.m. When the case would be developed by police, the culprit even tried to flee. Police were forced to shoot his legs after three warning shots were ignored.

Badung Police Chief, I Komang Suartana, when asked for his confirmation on Tuesday (Jun 11) justified the arrest of robbery and rape culprit. He explained the case was still in the process of development. “Until now, the case is still under development,” he said.

A source in police station said the arrest process against the culprit took a long time. After receiving a report from the victim if she had been robbed and raped, police immedi-ately moved to investigate the crime scene and conducted the examination of witnesses. It was not only undertaken in Bali but also outside Bali such as Lombok. Even, prior to assigning the criminal detective personnel, the investigators made a facial sketch of the culprit. Well, the results of investigation indicated if the culprit was at his home vil-lage in Lombok. Ultimately they departed to the target area. Unluckily, after a week in Lombok, the personnel found nothing.

Though giving no result, police did not lose heart to hunt down the culprit. They

continued to search for information related to the presence of the culprit. At the end, the of-ficers received information if the culprit had been back to Bali. To that end, police tracked down the culprit to his boarding house. They dug up information in the field.

Finally, boarding house of the culprit could be tracked at Jalan Kusuma Bangsa IV/1C, Pemecutan Kaja village, Northern Denpasar. Since the culprit was said to occupy the room number 7, police then im-mediately make a raid. The culprit could be arrested and secured to the Northern Kuta Police.

“The culprit has admitted the rape action, but the robbery has not. As a consequence, police still continue to develop the case,” he said while asking his name not to be published. Further, he said that Junaedi was a notorious robber and rapist. It was evident from his background.

From police’s note, the culprit was re-ported to get involved in robbery cases in Denpasar and Gianyar. For example, in the Gianyar region, the culprit was touted to have robbed the child of Korean Embassy in Ubud. Even, the culprit was arrested and punished Gianyar correctional institution. “The culprit was just released from the Gianyar correctional institution,” he added. (kmb21)

Negara (Bali Post)—The X-ray security device distributed to Jembrana Police and scheduled to be placed at

Gilimanuk Harbor to tighten checks ahead of numerous international events in Bali is at risk of not meeting the target of installation. Meanwhile, the APEC Summit implementation is only four months to go. But the device worth billions of rupiahs, in fact, cannot be used.

The security device, according to information, used to examine four-wheeled vehicle has been idle in the inner courtyard of the Jembrana Police for half year. Similarly, its placement is unclear in which checkpoint to be placed. Moreover, the current Post II and Post III (cargo vehicles) in the port area have very limited space.

Like in previous years, the officers remained to rely on manual inspection as made by the Jembrana Police personnel, Gilimanuk Marine Police, Mobile Brigade and Public Order Officer (Satpol PP) for identity card inspection.

Inspection of cargo cannot be done maximally and comprehensively if they still apply the old method. Cargo inside the truck or box van, for example, cannot be entirely identified. There is possibility if they are used for dispatching hazardous goods, weapons, explosives or drugs.

In Post II, the officers check the papers of motorcycles and private cars along with their baggage. Meanwhile, in Post III having more spacious courtyard is used to inspect bus, box van and tourist vehicle. Narrow area complicates the inspection especially when two or three vessels are unloading simultaneously. As a result, such condition kindles longer queue and complicates the officers. Sometimes, the trucks directly move without inspection. If they are inspected, the officers will not be able to totally unload the freights one by one. Therefore, it is required the X-ray security device.

Unclear

Based on information, there was no indication where the security device would be installed, even though the implementation of summit had been four months to go. Whether it would be installed inside or outside the harbor area was unclear. Moreover, the inspection at the harbor area chiefly Post II would be relocated to Segara Temple of Gilimanuk because the road would be concreted in the near future. Jembrana Police Chief, Komang Sandi Arsana, when asked about the use and when it would be installed declined to comment.

According to him, it was the authority of the Directorate of Vital Object Security, Bali Police, to answer. Previously, the device drawn by the vehicle of the Vital Object Security arrived in Jembrana last December. Even, a number of personnel of Gilimanuk Marine Police and Jembrana Police had been provided with tutorials to operate the device in the courtyard of Jimbarwana Hotel. However, until now the device remains idle in the courtyard of Jem-brana Police. (kmb26)

Robber and rapist of an Australian arrestedDenpasar (Bali Post)—

Criminal Detective Unit of the Northern Kuta Police finally managed to catch the culprit of robbery and rape experienced by an Australian, Leylani Kate Taylor, 28, at vila Damais, Northern Kuta, Badung. The culprit, Junaedi, 30, is a resident of Ketangga hamlet, Darmaji village, Kopang subdistrict, Central Lombok.

NASA said Asteroid 2013 LR6 was discovered about a day before its closest approach to Earth, which occurred at 12:42 a.m. EDT (0442 GMT on Saturday) about 65,000 miles over the Southern Ocean, south of Tasmania, Australia.

The 30-foot-wide (10-metre-wide) asteroid posed no threat. A week ago, the comparatively huge 1.7-mile-wide (2.7-km-wide) asteroid QE2, complete with its own moon in tow, passed 3.6 million miles (5.8 million km) from Earth.

While on February 15, a small asteroid exploded in the atmosphere over Chelyabinsk, Russia, leaving more than 1,500 people injured by flying glass and debris. That same day, an unrelated asteroid passed just 17,200 miles from Earth, closer than the networks of communication satellites that ring the planet.

“There is theoretically a collision possible between asteroids and planet Earth,” astronomer Gianluca Masi, with the Virtual Telescope project, said dur-ing a Google+ webcast that showed live images of the approaching asteroid.

NASA says it has found about 95 percent of the large asteroids, those with diameters 0.65 miles or larger, with orbits that take them relatively close to Earth.

An object of that size hit the planet about 65 million years ago in what is now Mexico’s Yucatan peninsula, triggering a global climate change that is believed to be responsible for the demise of the dinosaurs and many other forms of life on Earth.

The U.S. space agency and other research organizations, as well as private companies, are working on tracking smaller objects that fly near Earth.

A transitional species that repre-sents a link between dinosaurs and birds may have sported pale feath-ers that were dark at the tips, a new study suggests.

For the study, detailed in the June 13 issue of the Journal of Analytical Atomic Spectrometry, researchers used an X-ray beam to identify ancient traces of pigment in fossils of Archae-opteryx, a winged creature that lived about 150 million years ago.”This work refines our understanding of pigment patterning in perhaps the most

What started out as a casual sightseeing trip to a historic castle in the Netherlands took a bizarre turn for one Dutch woman, who claims she may have spotted some kind of UFO. Corrine Federer, 43, a business manager and amateur photog-rapher, was visiting medieval Muiderslot Castle outside Am-sterdam last month when she started taking pictures using her camera’s high-dynamic range, or HDR, feature.

“In order to create HDR im-ages, you take three or more exposures … at the same time, because you then overlap the images and it gives you the full spectrum of light,” Federer told The Huffington Post. [Top 10 Alien Encounters Debunked]

Federer took dozens of pho-tos that day, but it wasn’t until sometime later that she reviewed her HDR photos and saw a star-tling airborne shape in some of the images.

“It was a tubular-shaped ob-ject that had an S-shaped fin on it,” Federer said. “If it had been any type of missile, it would’ve had multiple fins, but facing the

same direction. We heard noth-ing. It was completely quiet out. The more I flipped through the frames, it was kind of creepy.”

In HDR photography, several images are captured within a second, with each image using a different exposure level. The images are then combined to create a composite picture with a higher degree of clarity, depth and detail than would be possible with a single image.

Using photographic software, Federer was able to enhance the contrast in one of her images to reveal the object seen in the photo above.

Federer’s images were ana-lyzed by Ben Hansen, a former FBI special agent and host of the Syfy Channel’s program “Fact or Faked: Paranormal Files.” He believes the images were not faked or manipulated.

“Having reviewed the raw files, there’s no overt indica-tion that the photos have been manipulated with post-editing software,” Hansen told the Post. “The object’s appearance is in-ternally consistent with the rest of the photo.”

The mysterious dinobird archaeopteryx probably sported light-and-dark patterned plumage as illustrated here, new research suggests

Ancient Dinobird Wore Black and Whiteimportant known fossil. Our technique shows that complex patterns were present even at the very earliest steps in the evolution of birds,” said study co-author Roy Wogelius, an earth sci-entist at Manchester University in the United Kingdom, in a statement.

Rare bird

Archaeopteryx was a transitional species between dinosaurs and birds that lived in what is now Germany. Scientists believe birds evolved from

theropods, a group of carnivorous dinosaurs taht includes the Tyran-nosaurus rex, during the Jurassic Era, about 150 million years ago.

Only 11 fossils specimens of the elusive creature have been found, and scientists thought any traces of the dinobird’s feathers had long since vanished.

But recently, researchers discov-ered that some fossilized feathers contained traces of melanosomes, pigment-making structures. Last year, researchers analyzed some of these melanosomes and determined that Archaeopteryx sported black feathers.

However, the team sampled just a few spots on the feather, meaning the dinobird’s full plumage pattern was still unknown.

To get a more complete picture of the dinobird, Wogelius and his colleagues used an X-ray beam from a synchrotron radiation light source to do a complete scan of a fossilized Archaeopteryx feather, as well as pigmentation found in the surround-ing rock.

The team discovered trace amounts of chemicals associated with pig-ments, which enabled a reconstruc-tion of the animals’ feather pattern.

Instead of being all black, it turns out Archaeopteryx sported light-and-dark patterned plumage.

“The Indonesian delegation head, Ambassador Dian Triansyah Djani, and Venezuela’s Vice Foreign Minister David Velasquez Caraballo signed the agreements on trade, agriculture, education, and culture as well as energy de-velopment investment, the Indonesian Foreign Ministry said in a press release here on Wednesday.

The signing of the agreements was held during the third meeting of Joint Committee Assembly between Indonesia and Venezuela in Nusa Dua, Bali Province.

According to the Indonesian foreign affairs ministry, Venezuelan businessmen were the largest buyers from Latin America during the Trade Indonesia Expo 2012 that reached US$25 million of total transactions.

The two countries also signed agreements on better bilateral government interactions and cooperation in diplomatic education.

The agreements between Indonesia and Venezuela also concern visa exemp-tion for the holders of diplomatic and official passports, the press release said.

Besides, both countries also signed Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on diplomatic education and training cooperation.

The Venezuela delegation also supported the consensus achievement of draft declaration which will be adopted during the sixth Forum for East Asia and Latin American Cooperation (FEALAC) to be held on June 13-14, 2013 in Bali.

Indonesia and Venezuela have established the bilateral relations since Oc-tober 1959.

The trade balance between the two countries in 2012 reached US$96.6 million with a surplus worth US$95.3 million being enjoyed by Indonesia.

The main export commodities from Indonesia to Venezuela include plastic products, textile, raw rubber, fiber, processed wood and furniture.

Anticipate water shortageFarmers encouraged developing horticulture

in urban areas are increasingly making this sector marginal-ized. Therefore, it is required a

breakthrough for developing and maintaining the urban agricul-ture. One of the efforts made is

encouraging farmers in Denpasar to undertake the development of horticulture (garden plants). Aside from requiring less wa-ter, the land required is not too much.

The Head of Denpasar Agri-culture, Food Crops and Horti-culture Agency, I Gede Ambara Putra, when met at the Mayor’s Office on Tuesday (Jun 11) acknowledged that urban farm-ers faced more obstacles than farmers in rural areas. The main problem currently faced by farm-ers in Denpasar was the narrow-ing of farmland due to land use conversion.

Addressing this issue, his party was trying to develop hor-ticultural products. Other than requiring less water, the develop-ment of this horticulture could also be done in a narrow area. “We’ve made a horticulture park taken advantage as pilot project or lab,” said Ambara Putra.

Development of the pilot proj-ect was undertaken on the area of 5 hectares on the Matahari Terbit Beach. With an appropriate crop-ping pattern, the development of

horticultural crops in Denpasar would be sufficiently potential. As evidence, the pilot project could give good result and qual-ity. “With this demonstration, farmers can see in person and cultivate it at their land later on,” said Ambara Putra.

Ambara added the results of horticultural products were also easier to market. Moreover, before developing the horticul-ture, his party had explored the market share. “The market share has existed, so that we can invite farmers to develop this commod-ity,” he said.

Ambara Putra added that so far the farmers in Denpasar had already planted horticulture such as watermelon, melon, corn and various kinds of flowers. Its planting pattern kept changing in accordance with the water avail-ability. Its existence was pretty much in the Southern Denpasar. However, at this time was needed an innovation in the cropping pat-tern to get more optimal results. “With a narrow land, we expect farmers to get maximal results,” he explained. (kmb12)

Prime Minister Tayyip Erdogan, who has repeatedly dismissed the demonstrators as “riff-raff”, was expected to meet protest leaders on Wednesday though one core group said it had not been invited and would not attend anyway.

Police fired volleys of tear gas canisters into the center of a crowd of thousands on Taksim Square without warning at dusk on Tuesday. The crowd included people in office clothes gathered after work and families with children, as well as youths in masks who had fought skirmishes through-out the day.

Clouds of choking tear gas sent them scattering into side streets. Staff in sur-rounding hotels raised shutters just enough to allow people to crawl inside for shelter, as water cannon swept across the square targeting stone-throwing youths.

The fierce crackdown on the initial pro-tests against the planned redevelopment of Gezi Park, a leafy corner of Taksim, drew international condemnation and calls for restraint. The latest police move came a day after Erdogan agreed to meet protest leaders involved in the initial demonstrations.

“There’s no room for dialogue when there’s ongoing violence,” said Mucella Yapici of the Taksim Solidarity Platform, a core group behind the Gezi Park campaign.

Chanting gangs of hard-core demonstra-tors taunted police in the narrow lanes leading down to the Bosphorus waterway late into the night, drawing more tear gas and water cannon spray. Municipal workers used bull-

dozers to remove the remains of vandalized vehicles and clear the square above.

Police also fired water cannon to disperse protesters in the center of the capital, An-kara. Erdogan earlier called on protesters to stay out of Taksim, where a heavy-handed police crackdown on a rally against devel-opment of Gezi Park triggered an unprec-edented wave of protest in cities across Turkey almost two weeks ago.

UNYIELDINGGezi Park has been turned into a ram-

shackle settlement of tents by leftists, environmentalists, liberals, students and professionals who see the development plan as symptomatic of an overbearing government.

The authorities have said legitimate pro-testers in the park will be allowed to stay, for now, and they remained camped out.

The protests, during which demonstrators used fireworks and petrol bombs, have posed a stark challenge to Erdogan’s authority and divided the country. Erdogan, who denies accusations of authoritarian behavior, said he would not yield.

“They say the prime minister is rough. So what was going to happen here? Were we going to kneel down in front of these (people)?” Erdogan said as action to clear the square began.

“If you call this roughness, I’m sorry, but this Tayyip Erdogan won’t change,” he told a meeting of his AK party’s parliamentary group on Tuesday.

SEOUL - A day after snubbing Seoul by offering to send a junior official to hold the first supposedly high-level talks between the two Koreas in six years, North Korea appeared to be refusing to pick up a phone line it re-established just last Friday.

The unpredictable North had called for talks between the two countries in order to try to reopen a money-spinning joint industrial park that it closed in April after threatening the South with nuclear annihilation. The proposed two days of talks were due to start on Wednesday but foundered over disagreement over the seniority of delegates.

Two attempts by Seoul on Wednesday to raise North Korean officials using a Red Cross hotline that was shut by Pyongyang amid rising tension earlier this year failed, according to the Unification Ministry in the South Korean capital.

The ministry said it made calls at 9 a.m. (8 p.m. EDT on Tuesday) on Wednesday

to re-establish contact and at 4 p.m., but they went unanswered. North Korea has not commented on the calls.

The talks had been billed as offering a breakthrough that could see the joint Kaesong industrial park on the border be-tween the two countries re-open. The park generates $90 million a year in wages for North Korea whose economy is smaller than it was 20 years ago.

The North’s failure to turn up for the talks in Seoul appeared to cast a pall over prospects for an improvement in ties between the two sides, still technically at war after their 1950-53 civil conflict ended with a mere truce.

After the talks were called off, South Korea’s presidential office accused the North of trying to humiliate it with its plans to send a junior official.

North Korea’s main diplomatic ally, China, had urged the reclusive state to return to the negotiating table after the country staged its third nuclear weapons test in February. Beijing backed U.N. sanctions imposed after that test.

Besides initial SY, there is also a retired Army officer initialed ED who is from Sumenep, East Java as stated by Head of Unit, PC Pande Sugiarta last Tuesday (11/6).

Accompanied by Penmas Head GAPC Sri Harmiti, it was explained that the retired Army officer helped on cross-ing the motorcycles through Gilimanuk Harbour. This needs a strong evidence to confirm it. The two admitted to have known SY six months ago where they

then agreed to rob motorcycles by us-ing letter T key. Pande explained that Samawi is a recidivist for a robbery at Sumenep with six months jail punish-ment. This time Samawi worked as finding the motorcycle while Atmawi drove Samawi around on his Terios DK 174 HA car.

The weirdest fact found was that Atnawi owns a handycraft business in Seminyak . These robbed motorcycles were then sold between IDR 2 to 4 million. Both were captured on Friday (7/6) and got shot due to trying escap-ing. “They robbed it then crossed it to Java. After that they hid it at Situbondo and then sold at Sepudi, Madura. The sports stadium (GOR) Sampalan at Ba-tununggul Village, Nusa Penida seemed to be worrying. The project that started in 2010 did not get completed up until now causing the hundred million worth place becoming a foul place for the teenagers. A number of locals have caught teenagers in love inside the sports stadium such as I Dewa Gede Sudiadnyana last Tuesday (11/6) stated to have often found teenagers would kiss in the north corner of the tribune and some seems like having intercourse. Those acts most happened in Saturday night’s where teens would go there at the night. “I guess because it is dark and empty, so many would go here for a date. For those caught we would stop them and give advice but it seemed to have gone even much wilder now,” Sudiadnyana continued.

Besides that, locals also complain the proj-ect condition where it is not at all maintained. Vandalism also took place here done by random individuals which so locals asked Police Civil Service to do raids here so no one would misuse the area as all this time it’s only the locals who would supervise the area to avoid any unwanted acts happening.

Head of Klungkung Police Civil Service, Komang Darma Suyasa, stated that there haven’t been any complaints from around the GOR. Even so coordination will take place with their divi-sion in Nusa Penida to disciplined those naughty teens acts and vancalism. Meanwhile the Kesra Section Head, Nengah Suiarda, stated Sampalan was under social aid of the 2010 Regional Amend-ment Budget reaching IDR 65 million and then IDR 500 million in year 2011 yet for 2013 there is none. To cope with the matter, thousands of Penyaringan villagers with nature lover students and community organizations planted 6,000 mangrove seedlings, Tues-day (Jun 11). Dozens of personnel of the 1617/Jembrana Military District Com-mand and 02/Mendoyo Military Area Command were involved in planting the seedlings supplied by the Bali Forestry, Fisheries and Maritime Agency.

Headman of Penyaringan, Made Dresta, justified there were at least five hectares of rice field at Subak Jagaraga that were always inundated by sea water every high tide. The subak members in particular worried that without such handling it would extend to the other rice field. On that account, thousands of villagers helped by personnel of the Indonesian Army (TNI) planted man-groves. “People are very enthusiastic and almost 1,600 people participated in planting the mangrove seedlings. In other words, the public awareness of the environment remains high,” he

explained. The land planted was partly owned

by residents, but they had given up theirs in order the subak remained to survive. Customary village was also involved in the planting and later on it would be supervised together. Mangrove was believed to ward off the onslaught of waves naturally and protect the land from further damage.

Commander of the 02/Mendoyo Mil-itary Area Command, Wayan Yudana, said the personnel involved to help the planting were a form of devotion to the community and environment. The mili-tary personnel were required to conduct military operation as well as assist local government. At least 75 military per-sonnel of the 1617/Jembrana Military District Command and 02/Mendoyo Area Command helped planting the mangrove seedlings. Previously, the Mendoyo Military Area Command also helped similar activities in the area of Yehembang. (kmb26)

On Tuesday (Jun 11), the Head of Gianyar Culture Agency, Cokorda Rai Widiarsa said the selection of Samuan Tiga Temple as a gathering place for the Hindu leaders consider-ing the temple had historical value on social life, customs and culture of the Balinese in general and Gianyar in particular.

Historically, the Samuan Tiga Temple was established as an ef-fort to unify the various sects first developing in Bali. Such unification was in line with the objective of the WHS which united the Hindus in the world.

In the event would be staged the Barong Kedengkling, Gong Suling, Bala Agung Dance and several other dances. Meanwhile, in the closure would be staged the Rishi Mar-kandeya colossal dance telling the story about his pilgrimage in Bali until the establishment of Samuan

Tiga Temple. The WHS 2013 was planned to be

attended by approximately 100 spiri-tual leaders of the world, 600 Hindu leaders of the world and 300 mixed spiritual leaders of local Gianyar and Bali. Cok Rai Widiarsa further explained the Hindu leader meeting was planned to take place on June 13-16, 2013 and would be synergized with the implementation of the Bali Arts Festival (PKB) XXXVI. As scheduled, President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono would inaugurate the establishment of the World Hindu Parishad and World Hindu Center as a step in uniting the Hindus around the world.

Implementation of the WHS was expected to provide a positive im-pact on the development of spiritual tourism as well as promotion of tour-ism potential owned by the Gianyar County. (kmb16)

Bali PostNEGARA - Dozens of food stalls

on the Pebuahan Beach, Banyubiru village are threatened to disap-pear as getting eroded by abrasion seeming more serious lately. Some food stalls have been affected by the onslaught of waves where half of the building has collapsed such as the property belonging to H. Muzaki, Mrs. Watik, Pondok Waru 2 and others. Even, some others have already closed because the buildings are destroyed.

Based on information from sur-rounding residents on Tuesday (Jun 11), the food stall owned by H. Muzaki had been destroyed since three years ago. The stall owner had established revetment and spent tens of millions of rupiahs but was unable to stem the waves. The most severe damage was experienced by the food stall of Arianto, 35. It was newly constructed but had started to be eroded by the abrasion.

Arianto revealed that he built it in 2012. After being in operation for five months, part of the build-ing was destroyed by abrasion. He had actually been trying to put up large sized stones but they were finally eroded and buried in the sand. As a result, since the begin-ning of this year his food stall was

closed. Previously, the distance of his food stall branch was far enough from the beach. On that account, he dared to invest for the establishment of the food stall at the location.

In fact, in relatively short time, the land had run out as getting erod-ed by sea waves. Arianto claimed to suffer a loss of IDR 350 million. His other food stall located in the west of the current food stall was also at risk of abrasion. He claimed to worry if the sea water would keep crashing so that he planned to install a breakwater.

One of the fishermen, Nuryadi, also admitted if the bamboo wall of his house virtually collapsed be-cause it was often hit by the waves. Even, every night he could not sleep well as the waves continued to grow bigger.

On the other hand, the Divi-sion Head of Water Resources, the Jembrana Public Works, Wayan Darwin, previously mentioned the length of beach affected by the abrasion in Jembrana reached 14 kilometers. However, only about four kilometers had been handled. According to him, there were 21 points of abrasion and his party proposed the other 10 kilometers to be addressed. (kmb26)

BANGKOK — Oil prices fell below $95 on Wednesday as ample supplies caused energy investors to pull back.

Benchmark oil for July delivery fell 85 cents to $94.53 per barrel at midday Bangkok time in electronic trading on the New York Mercantile Exchange. The contract fell 39 cents to close at $95.38 per barrel on the Nymex on Tuesday.

On Tuesday, oil prices were pressured by OPEC’s disclosure that its members boosted production by 106,000 barrels a day in May. Some experts feel the world already has an ample supply to meet current demand. “Oil prices have slid back after OPEC increased crude output in May while at the same time keeping its 2013 demand forecast unchanged on concerns about the demand outlook,” said Michael Hewson of CMC Markets in an email commentary.

Investors have been trying to guess the timetable for the U.S. Federal Reserve to wind down its massive bond-buying program. The $85 billion-a-month asset purchases have helped keep interest rates at historic lows, prompting investors to turn to stocks and commodities in search of returns that outdo bonds.

However, Julian Jessop of Capital Economics said in a market commentary that a pullback by the Fed wouldn’t impact oil markets greatly, partly because the program “does not seem to have provided much support for commodity prices to begin with, so there may be little to lose when the asset purchases do end.”

With the Duchess of Cambridge due to give birth to an heir to the throne next month, it’s time for citizens and groups to consider how to best mark the moment.

Happy occasions often boost consumer confidence, sparking a spring in the step that leads right to the shopping mall for street party snacks, summer frocks and suntan lotion. And happy national occa-sions with the royal family and a new heir hit an emotional jackpot in Britain — boosting national pride along with tea, cakes and commemorative china.

“Royal fever is more intense now, actually,” said Pauline Ma-claran, a professor of marketing and consumer research at Royal Holloway and the co-author of “Tiaras, Tea Towels and Tourism: Consuming the British Royal Fam-ily,” which will be published by the University of California Press. “At a time of crisis, when there is financial depression, people look for something to lift themselves.”

Britain really could use some consumer confidence right now. The economy is so flat no one has

LONDON — British officials are hoping that the impending royal birth will produce a bouncing baby buoy for the economy.

any idea how to pick it up. It grew last quarter at the less-than-stunning rate of 0.3 percent.

But trend watchers say the royal birth is being seen as the country’s latest installment of “Big Events.”

First, in April 2011, there was the royal wedding of Prince William and Kate Middleton, an extrava-ganza of horse-drawn carriages, breast-plated soldiers and white lace gowns. Then came the June 2012 Jubilee flotilla down the River Thames — a procession of some 1,000 highly decorated boats, all honoring Queen Elizabeth II’s 60 years on the throne.

Within months, London hosted the 2012 Summer Olympics, kick-ing it off with a flag-waving, torch-lit procession celebrating every scenic bit of this island nation, from Land’s End in the west to the Scot-tish village of John o’Groats in the north. The mood was extended an-other month by the most watched, most-celebrated Paralympics in history.

A study issued earlier this month by UK Trade & Investment suggested the 2012 “Summer of

Sport,” delivered 2.5 billion pounds ($3.9 billion) in foreign direct in-vestment resulting from business events launched during the games. More comprehensive numbers on the games are expected later.

Richard Cope, director of trends at the global market research firm Mintel, says the possibilities abound for using the royal birth to economic advantage.

And they make people all over the world curious about kings and queens and castles. The Tower of London, Hampton Court Palace and other royal-related tourist attrac-tions bring in more than 500 million pounds ($765 million) a year from overseas tourists, and predictions are for a 3 percent increase this year after all the hoo-ha of 2012.

VisitBritain estimates that cul-ture and heritage — which include theaters, galleries, castles, stately homes and pubs — generates 4.6 billion pounds a year in total spend-ing by overseas tourists.

And while a royal birth isn’t a typical economic event, things have a way of morphing in the social media age. William’s engagement

was announced on Twitter and on the mon-archy website — which allows the royals to speak directly to the public. Between direct access and media excess, just about anything that touches the Windsors gets a maximum amount of attention.

The royals are marketplace movers in a

way that goes way beyond commemorative china. When the Duchess of Cambridge wore a sapphire blue wrap dress to an-nounce her engagement, designer Daniella Helayel found herself swamped with inter-national attention — and buyers — within minutes. Ditto her coats, shoes and bags.

The government yanked ERT off the air at midnight just hours after announcing the move on Tuesday, in the most dramatic public sector closure yet in the struggle to shore up finances and meet the terms of an international bailout.

Government spokesman Simos Kedikoglou told Reuters the shut-down was decided six weeks ago and was unrelated to the failure to sell state gas firm DEPA or to an ongo-ing inspection visit by EU and IMF lenders in Athens.

The journalists’ union denounced a “coup d’etat” to muzzle information and called for strikes in all Greek media and some ERT journalists were occupying the state broadcaster’s building.

In a potential blow to Greece’s ef-forts to turn around its economy and pull out of a six-year recession, equity index provider MSCI downgraded the troubled euro zone country to emerging market status from devel-oped market on Tuesday.

MSCI said the Athens stock ex-change did not reflect the improved

practices in developed markets for securities borrowing, lending facili-ties, short selling and transferability of shares. It had also not met the developed market criteria for size for the past two years.

The Athens bourse shrugged off the expected downgrade, with the benchmark index up 0.6 percent. Brokers said more money may ended up invested in Greek stocks over the medium term from the coun-try’s weighting in emerging market indices.

“I would not rush to view this as negative. Flow-wise it could turn out positive in the medium term,” said Theodore Krintas, head of wealth management at Attica Bank.

The government decided to pull ERT off air hours after the an-nouncement because of fears that workers would damage state equip-ment, spokesman Kedikoglou said. A slimmed down version of ERT will be relaunched as early as a few weeks and by early autumn at the latest, he said.

“We didn’t shut down ERT, we

temporarily suspended its operations to fix it and make it work on a healthy basis,” he said.

INDEFINITE STRIKEBroadcast journalists began an

indefinite strike in protest, and tele-vision channels carried reruns and documentaries on Wednesday. Staff at the shuttered state channel NET continued broadcasts on the Internet without government approval.

Strikes at newspapers and other print media will begin Thursday, the journalists’ union said.

“The strike will only end when the government takes back this coup d’etat which gags information,” it said.

The government said ERT was a case of “incredible waste” and the shutdown would save taxpayers money. The speed of the shutdown stunned Greeks long used to the slow pace of public sector restructurings.

“Just at a time when hope was returning in the country, a rushed decision to shut down ERT puts the government’s cohesion in doubt,” center-left daily To Ethnos said.

MANILA, Philippines — Philippine President Benigno Aquino III vowed Wednesday his country will not back down from any challenge to its sovereignty and territory amid a sea dispute with China.

He said in a speech marking the 115th anniversary of the coun-try’s independence from Spain that the Philippines has not claimed territory that clearly belongs to another country but only asks that “our territory, rights and dignity be respected.”

“Aggression does not run in our veins, but neither will we back down from any challenge,” Aquino told government workers, diplomats and supporters at a public square named after revolu-tionary leader Andres Bonifacio, where he also led a flag-raising ceremony.

Aquino said in the next five years, 75 billion pesos ($1.74 bil-lion) will be spent to modernize the armed forces.

He did not mention China by name, but the two countries have an ongoing territorial row in the disputed Spratly islands.

Last month, the Philippines protested the presence of a Chinese warship, two surveillance vessels and fishing boats off a shoal occupied by Filipino troops in the Spratlys in the latest territorial squabble between the two Asian countries.

Ayungin Shoal lies 196 kilometers (122 miles) from the south-western Philippine province of Palawan. It is guarded by a Filipino marine unit based in a rusty warship that ran aground on a coral outcrop several years ago. The shoal is near Mischief Reef, which the Philippines had claimed but was occupied by China in 1995, sparking intense protests from Manila.

TOKYO — Japan’s Jiroemon Kimura, who had been recognized by the Guinness World Records as the world’s oldest living person and the oldest man ever, died Wednesday of natural causes. He was 116.

Kimura, of Kyotango, Japan, was born April 19, 1897. Officials in Kyotango said he died in a local hospital, where he had been undergo-ing treatment for pneumonia. According to Guinness, Kimura was the first man in history to have lived to 116 years old.

Kimura became the oldest man ever on Dec. 28, 2012, at the age of 115 years, 253 days, breaking the record set by Christian Mortensen, a Danish immigrant to the United States, whose life spanned from 1882-1998.

The title of oldest living person is now held by another Japanese, 115-year-old Misao Okawa, of Osaka.

Okawa, who was born March 5, 1898, is also the world’s oldest living woman. “Jiroemon Kimura was an exceptional person,” said Craig Glenday, editor-in-chief of Guinness World Records. “As the only man to have ever lived for 116 years — and the oldest man whose age has been fully authenticated — he has a truly special place in world history.”

Kyotango officials said Kimura’s funeral would be held Friday. “Mr. Kimura was and will always be a treasure to our town, to our country and to our world,” said Mayor Yasushi Nakayama.

AntaraJAKARTA - Defense Minister Purnomo Yusgiantoro said Indonesia will

soon build infrastructure for the production of submarines. The infrastructure will be built by state shipbuilding company PT PAL in

Surabaya, Purnomo said after a session of the Committee for the Defense In-dustry Policy here on Tuesday.

He said the country is expected to have the infrastructure ready in the next two to three years.

The session of the Committee, which is chaired by Purnomo, also discusses a plan to produce jet fighter planes in the country.

Purnomo said legal umbrella would be needed before any step taken to build the war plane and submarine infrastructure.

“Support from the House of Representatives would be needed to provide a legal basis for the project,” he said.

Indonesia as the world`s largest archipelago, would need strong navy and air force to protect its thousands of islands.

Indonesia has agreed with South Korea to cooperate in building the infrastruc-ture for the production of submarines. The cooperation will include in license, engineering manufacturing and production of prototype. Cooperation is already implemented in design technology and in the next two years cooperation is expected to be implemented in engineering manufacturing and prototype.

Indonesia and South Korea also agreed on transfer of technology in the construction of submarines.

Earlier, the government said development of modern factory to produce submarine would be implemented in 2016-2017.

The first submarine to be produced under the cooperation agreement in Korea will be completed in 2014.

Construction of the second submarine will involve Indonesian technicians and production of the third unit will be in Indonesia by PT PAL.

The submarine bases will be built in the Palu bay, Central Sulawesi to be commissioned by the end of this year. All units of Indonesian submarine will be stationed in the Palu bay including the new one produced in Korea.

business world.“Although the increase in prices of

some food commodities such as chili and jengkol (pithecolobium jiringa), the government will guarantee the stability and supply of other basic and strategic commodities,” Hatta said.

He added that with the sufficient supply and stable prices, the govern-ment and the business world could maintain the inflation rate.

“The government and Kadin will continue to make coordination and consultation to maintain the prices and supply of those basic necessi-ties,” he said, adding that the state logistics agency, Bulog, would also make intervention to anticipate the fluctuation and speculation of basic necessities prices.

Danny Green hit seven of nine 3s in his 27 points while Gary Neal was six of 10 from deep in his 24. Tim Duncan chipped in 12 points and 14 rebounds for the Spurs, who responded to a 19-point drubbing in Game 2 with a blowout of their own.

Miami’s four-time MVP LeBron James was held to 15 points on 7-of-21 shooting. James also had 11 rebounds and five assists, but missed 11 of his first 14 shots and never looked comfortable against San Antonio’s swarming defense.

Duncan bounced back from his worst game ever in the finals, and the Spurs’ combination of fresh faces and old reliables dominated the NBA’s regular-season leaders before an eager crowd that hadn’t seen the finals here since 2007.

“It shouldn’t be a surprise,” said Spurs coach Gregg Popvich. “These are the last two teams standing. I don’t think either one of them is go-ing to get down if they have a bad night.”

Game 4 is Thursday in San Antonio, where

the Heat have won just three of 25 games and will try to pick themselves up after a sobering defeat.

“We got what we deserved,” Heat coach Erik Spoelstra said. “I didn’t even recognize the team that was out there tonight.”

It was a potentially pivotal victory for the Spurs in their quest to go 5 for 5 in the finals. Since the NBA Finals went to a 2-3-2 format in 1985, the Game 3 winner when the series was tied 1-1 has gone on to win 12 of the 13 titles — though the Heat were the lone one that didn’t, in 2011.

Red Bull has announced it has extended Sebastian Vettel’s contract until the end of the 2015 season.

The world champion, who has won three consecutive titles with the Milton Keynes-based squad, had a contract until the end of 2014, but will now stay on for at least another year after the extension of the deal.

Vettel first drove for Red Bull in 2009 and has won 28 races with the team, scoring 50 podiums and 38 pole positions.

The 25-year-old German became the youngest ever triple champion last year and is currently leading this year’s championship by 36 points after winning last Sunday’s Canadian Grand Prix.

MaRc Marquez insists his crash-strewn MotoGP weekend at Mugello will not affect him heading into this weekend’s Catalunya Grand Prix. The Spaniard crashed several times over the Italian weekend, including a fall while second in the race and a violent high-speed off in second practice.

He initially had trouble lifting and moving his arm, but it was later confirmed he had escaped with ‘minimal’ injuries.

Marquez says that diagnosis helped put his mind at ease, and is adamant his string of offs will not affect him physically or mentally this weekend. “After crashing out in Mugello I really can’t wait to get back on the bike at my home GP in Montmelo,” Marquez said.

“I am more relaxed after seeing Dr. [Xavier] Mir last week and he confirmed there are no complications with my injuries. “I am on my way to feeling 100 per cent again. “We will keep to our own programme [at Barcelona], work hard and try our best.

“[It is] another track where all the other riders have much more experience than me, and they will be extra tough to beat.”

Barcelona was one of the few circuits Mar-quez failed to win on during his two-year spell in Moto2, although he qualified on pole in 2012 and never finished lower than third.

After his Mugello crash he currently lies third in the championship, 26 points off team-mate and points leader Dani Pedrosa.

The Real Madrid stopper came on for Barcelona’s Victor Valdes with just over half an hour left at Yankee Stadium and conjured up two trademark reflex saves to deny the Irish an equaliser before Juan Mata’s late strike wrapped up a 2-0 win for the world and European champions.

After Roberto Soldado had put Spain ahead in the 69th minute, Casillas thrust out a hand to tip James McLean’s fierce drive over the crossbar and then palmed a point-blank header from a corner on to the underside of the bar and away.

Spain now head to Brazil for this month’s Confederations Cup, the only major international trophy missing from their collection, and Casillas, at 32 still relatively young for a keeper, looks likely to add to his Spanish-record 145 caps at the warm-up tournament for next year’s World Cup.

Known as “Saint Iker” to adoring fans after a string of match-winning performances, he earned effusive praise from the local sports media on Wednesday. “Casillas stops Ireland with two saves for the history books,” wrote Marca, while As added: “Two mi-raculous interventions from ‘The

Saint Iker still conjuring up miracles for Spain

Reuters

MADRID - If Vicente del Bosque had any doubts about the form of Spain captain and goal-keeper Iker Casillas they were surely dispelled by his performance as a second-half substitute against Ireland in Tuesday’s friendly in New York.

Saint’ Iker Casillas”.There were doubts over whether

Casillas would be sharp enough to reclaim the goalkeeping spot for Spain after he fell out with former Real coach Jose Mourinho and lost his place in the starting lineup to Diego Lopez.

Mourinho, who has left Real to rejoin Chelsea, said he had benched Casillas for purely sport-ing reasons. He broke a bone in his hand in January and Lopez was brought in as emergency cover from Sevilla.

However, the Portuguese man-ager’s decision followed an inter-view given by Casillas’s girlfriend, a high-profile Spanish television presenter, in which she referred to tensions in the Real dressing room.

Lopez, a solid performer and a former Spain reserve keeper, remained Mourinho’s first choice through to the end of the season as Real were knocked out in the last four of the Champions League, surrendered their La Liga title to Barca and lost to Atletico Madrid in the King’s Cup final.

Seeing Casillas back to his best on Tuesday was a reminder of what Real may have missed during their frustrating season finale, when

their dream of a 10th European crown and their first since 2002 again slipped away.

Del Bosque, a former Real

player and coach, consistently defended his captain during his enforced absence but he was typi-cally non-committal when asked on Tuesday which of Casillas, Valdes or Liverpool’s Pepe Reina would be keeping goal at the Con-federations Cup.

“He (Casillas) played well but any of the three keepers could

play,” Del Bosque told a news conference.

Mexico were booed off the field by a boisterous crowd after being held to a 0-0 draw at home to Costa Rica in the final round of CONCACAF qualifying for the 2014 World Cup on Tuesday, their third successive goalless draw at the Azteca Stadium.

The United States took control of the six-team qualifying group with an impressive 2-0 win over Panama, while Honduras kept alive their hopes of making it to the finals in Brazil next year with a 2-0 win over bottom team Jamaica.

Three teams qualify automati-cally from CONCACAF to next year’s World Cup finals in Brazil while the fourth placed team will meet Oceania winners New Zea-land in a two-legged playoff for one further spot.

The United States lead at the halfway stage of the qualifying round on 10 points from five games followed by Costa Rica on eight points from the same number of games while Mexico are also on eight points having played an extra game.

Honduras have seven points from five games, Panama have six points (five games) and Jamaica two points (six games).

Mexico entered the final quali-fying round in North and Central America and the Caribbean as strong favourites to top the group

but while few would bet against them making it to Brazil, ‘El Tri’ are making hard work of it.

After scoreless draws with Jamaica and the U.S. at home and another away to Panama on Friday, Mexico were under pressure to find their scoring touch but created far too little, which inflamed their fans’ passions.

As well as the boos at fulltime, the Azteca crowd called for Mexico coach Jose Manuel de la Torre to quit or be sacked while during the game they threw objects onto the field, which could see the Mexican Football Federation fined.

The worst occurrence happened when Costa Rica forward Bryan Ruiz needed police with shields to protect him after he went to take a corner and he was subjected to a barrage of objects, including a plas-tic bottle, being thrown at him.

Costa Rica’s disciplined de-fensive display also added to the Mexicans frustrations after the visitors had almost grabbed an early lead when forward Joel Campbell struck the post in the fourth minute.

Campbell then forced Mexico keeper Jose de Jesus Corona into action with a low drive after great work from Cristian Bolanos as the visitors enjoyed the early chances.

Two minutes before the break, Ruiz blasted over from a promising position just outside the area.

Mexico came out with attacking intent after the break with Carlos Salcido’s near post drive well par-ried by Costa Rica keeper Keilor Navas.

At times ‘El Tri’ laid siege to the Costa Rican penalty area but they lacked invention and there were few clear cut chances as the two sides shared the points.

Goals in each half from Jozy Altidore and Eddie Johnson gave Juergen Klinsmann’s United States victory over a Panama team who went into the game unbeaten in the final round of qualifying.

Altidore slotted home in the 36th minute, getting on the end of a low cross from Fabian Johnson after Michael Bradley had broken from midfield. Eddie Johnson, playing in front of his home crowd in Seattle, then wrapped up the win with a confident finish after a superb cross-field pass from Geoff Cameron.

Honduras beat struggling Jamai-ca after Oscar Boniek Garcia put them ahead in the 10th minute after good work from Roger Espinoza. The Reggae Boyz were reduced to 10 men in the 76th minute when Adrian Mariappa was sent off for a second bookable offence.

Honduras wrapped up victory with two minutes remaining when Roger Rojas intercepted a back pass, rounded Donovan Ricketts and slipped the ball into the empty net.

COPENHAGEN, Denmark - Denmark’s hopes of reaching the 2014 World Cup finals are all but over after it slumped to a dismal 4-0 home defeat by Armenia in a qualifier on Tuesday. “This is the worst evening in my football life,” Denmark coach Morten Olsen said. “It is beyond my understand-ing that we cannot do better, but it is my fault 100 percent.”

Armenia striker Yura Movsi-syan opened the scoring within 30 seconds of the kickoff after Denmark’s Simon Kjaer acciden-tally passed the ball to him.

Aras Ozbiliz made it 2-0 in the 19th minute, sending his shot past goalkeeper Stephan Andersen after a mistake by an increasingly error-prone Denmark defense. Movsisyan added Armenia’s third goal in the 59th minute, prompting fans to start leaving the Parken stadium.

Armenia almost scored again in the 71st minute when Mov-

sisyan’s effort beat Andersen, only for William Kvist to make a goalline clearance.

But there was no stopping Hen-rikh Mkhitaryan from scoring Ar-menia’s fourth in the 81st minute with a powerful left-foot shot.

Denmark, the surprise 1992 European champions, disappoint-ed throughout the 90 minutes. Substitute Simon Makienok came closest to scoring for the home side in the closing stages, but his initial shot hit the post and his effort on the rebound flew into the keeper’s arms.

When Movsisyan, a former striker with Danish club Randers FC, left the pitch in the 83rd min-ute, the Denmark fans applauded him. To add insult to injury, Ar-menia leapfrogged Denmark in the standings.

Denmark lies fifth in the six-team Group B with six points from as many games. Group leader Italy has 12 points, Bul-garia 10, Czech Republic nine and Armenia six.

BUENOS AIRES, Argentina - An Argentine soccer player was expelled from a minor league game and fired from his team for mistreating a dog that wandered onto the field.

Fox Sports de Argentina broad-cast images on Tuesday showing the player use both hands to grab the mid-size black-and-white dog by the collar and throw it toward the bleachers during the game. The

dog struck a chain-link fence and fell down, but quickly got up and ran away.

The referee flashed a red penalty card at the player, Jose Gimenez, sig-naling his expulsion from the game between his Bella Vista team and the San Juan team in Tucuman province, which is about 1,300 kilometers (800 miles) north of Buenos Aires.

Gimenez told the newspaper Gazeta de Tucuman that he later felt ashamed by what he did and said he

had been fired from the team. The player said he had a hard time trying to explain to his 3-year-old son “why I had choked a doggie on TV.”

He said he decided to deal with the dog because no one else was trying to get it off the field, “but it wasn’t my intention for this to occur.”

Still, Gimenez complained about the attention caused by the case. “So many things occur in soccer that do not have such re-percussions,” he said.

“Data from Indonesian Chamber of Commerce and Industry (Kadin) shows that the prices and supply of seven strategic food commodities re-main stable and even some of them are down,” he noted here on Wednesday.

Speaking after a coordination meeting between the government and Kadin at his office on Wednes-day, Hatta said the seven strategic food commodities with stable prices and supply were cooking oil, beef and chicken, horticulture products, sugar, flour, fish and shrimp, and rice.

He said from the coordination meeting it was concluded that the prices and supply of strategic food commodities could be made stable by the government together with the

business world.“Although the increase in prices of

some food commodities such as chili and jengkol (pithecolobium jiringa), the government will guarantee the stability and supply of other basic and strategic commodities,” Hatta said.

AntaraJAKARTA - President Susi-

“Today we had a meeting of government coalition parties. In essence, the meeting led by the President assessed recent developments in the global and national economies,” Na-

tional Mandate Party (PAN) Chairman Hatta Rajasa who is also chief economic minister said at the Jakarta Convention Center (JCC) after the two-hour meeting.

The meeting also expected deliberations on the draft revi-sion of the 2013 state budget could be completed on sched-ule, he said.

“The coalition is expected to save it,” he said.

Asked about the coalition’s commitment to saving the draft revision of the 2013 state bud-

get, he said the coalition had strong commitment to it.

No representative from the Prosperous Justice Party (PKS) showed up at the meeting.

PKS is the only member of President Yudhoyono’s six-par-ty coalition which has decided to oppose the planned fuel price increase.

Earlier, Vice President Bo-ediono said the fuel price hike could no longer be delayed in view of the huge fuel subsidy which reaches up to Rp250 tril-lion every year.

Royal infant may help UK economyAssociated Press

The capture of motorcycle robbers named Samawi alias Sanawi (53) and Atnawi (34), Second Unit Third Sub Di-rectorate Bali Police Criminal Research keep on developing the case in chasing other accused by interrogating the two while they are being treated after getting shot on the foot.

The process goes in through Jangkar Asem-bagus Harbour, Sitobondo. So far 25 crime scenes have been admitted,” Pande explained. (kmb21)

(kmb26)

(kmb12)

“Installation of the X-Ray security device in Bali is very important consider-ing Bali is a leading tourist destination in Indonesia and the world. Moreover, this year is scheduled many international events such as the Hindu Summit, APEC Summit, Miss World and Bali Democracy Forum which will be regularly attended by the heads of state and heads of govern-ment,” said Putu Anom in Denpasar.

According to him, the impact of any small incident on the Island of the Gods would be quickly known internationally. Therefore, he asked the Bali Police Chief

to immediately install the X-ray device, continue to check and be aware of the security threats, especially terrorists.

“For convincing tourists visiting Bali related to security matters, the X-ray de-vice should be installed in strategic places and shortcuts used as the entry point of terrorists. I am worried about the entry of terrorists through beaches denoting unof-ficial ports with fast motion and suicide bombing mode,” he said.

Chairman of the Indonesia Congress and Convention Association (INCCA) Bali, IB Surakusuma, previously said that coastal

areas of Bali was very vulnerable to be infiltrated by criminals including terrorists from outside Bali. “Entering the APEC Summit 2013, the coastal security of Bali must be tightened. Bali as a world tourism region is highly vulnerable to be targeted by crime and terrorist threats,” he said.

He said the matter of security and comfort for tourists should become a major concern for the government and the entire community of Bali. The authorities would not be able to fully maintain the security of coastal areas due to lack of human resources and personnel.
