Waititi, who was a writer and direc-tor of that cult HBO series, has carried on the show’s New Zealand deadpan and childlike whimsy with varying success. Often collaborating with “Conchords” star Jermaine Clement, Waititi has previously seesawed too far into quirk (2007’s oddball romance “Eagle vs Shark”) and risen to heights of comic understatement (2015’s vam-pire mockumentary “What We Do in the Shadows”).

In “Hunt for the Wilderpeople,” a huge hit in Waititi’s native New Zealand, also delights in teetering — clumsily but charmingly — between fantasy and reality. The film is a fable about a heavy-set foster kid, Ricky Baker (Julian Dennison), and a reluc-tant foster parent, “Uncle” Hector (Sam Neill), who, evading child services, go on the lam and spark a manhunt. As far as buddy comedy pairings go, few can match the unlikeliness of that in “Hunt for the Wilderpeople.”

Having run through foster families, Ricky, introduced as “a very bad egg,” is dropped off at the remote home of Aunt Bella (an excellent Rima Te Wiata who leaves the film too soon) and Hector. At first glance, Ricky is terribly unsuited for country life. On his first night, he tries to run away but gets no further than halfway up the nearest hillside.

Just as Ricky begins warming to life with Bella (the gruff Hector largely evades him), tragedy comes out of the blue, and Ricky is to be retrieved by child welfare. But Ricky and Hector, each fed up with society, resolve to “go

bush.” They totter into the mountains, and an increasingly absurd chase en-sues, led by a militant child services worker (Rachel House).

The tale, told in chapters, comes from Barry Crump’s 1986 novel “Wild Pork and Watercress.” In Waititi’s hands, it’s a jerky ride.

There are passages that take after “Psycho” (a gratuitously bloody wild pig slaughter) and wintery poetic mo-ments that reference “McCabe and Mrs. Miller.” In their journey, the pair’s encounters are both tender and cartoonish, ranging from an alluring young girl to a recluse named Psycho Sam (Rhys Darby, the fabulous bug-eyed MVP of “Conchords”).

The grab bag of styles, awkward as they are, also supplies “Wilderpeople” its strange off-kilter energy. It’s nimble enough to never be quite pinned down by its familiar concept before eventu-ally going out in a blaze of farce.

“Wilderpeople” is ultimately win-ning, like all buddy comedies, because of the chemistry of its leads. Neill (the Sundance of the two) and Dennison (our younger and portlier but no less cocksure Butch) make an endearing pair of runaways.

On the heels of his recent successes, Waititi has been picked by Marvel to direct the considerably more massive “Thor: Ragnarok.” As a test case of an indie director making a giant leap in scale, it should be interesting. If Waititi can handle the Norse god with the same low-key modesty that he’s approached vampires and outlaws, Marvel may yet be brought down to size. “Hunt for the Wilderpeople,” an Orchard release, is rated PG-13 by the Motion Picture Association of America for “thematic elements including violent content and for some language.” Running time: 101 min-utes. Three stars out of four.(ap)

DENPASAR - Environmental concern of young people coalesced into the members of customary youth club at each hamlet is get-ting greater. It is evidenced by their vivacity to fight for the aspirations of the community if there are plans by certain parties wishing to dam-age the surrounding environment. It is also carried out by a number of customary village youth clubs in Denpasar in addressing to the Benoa Bay reclamation.

Rejection against the Benoa Bay reclamation plan was also carried out by the ranks of Yowana Mekar customary village youth of Dualang hamlet, Peguyangan Kaja, North Denpasar. Based on the meeting of the Yowana Mekar customary village youth club, it decided to reject the Benoa Bay reclamation plan followed by the installation of billboards. Instal-lation of the billboards containing the rejection against reclamation

was followed by the youth club members as well as a number of local residents.

Coordinator of the action, Sutristya Adi Putra, accompanied by community figure of Peguyan-gan and former headman Wayan Sutama, Tuesday (Jun. 21) revealed that such an action poses the fol-low up of their meeting some time ago. At that time, all the youth club members agreed to reject the reclamation plan by PT TWBI in

Benoa Bay. “On last July 11 was the beginning of the Peguyangan Kaja people to reject the Benoa Bay reclamation.

Residents of Dualang hamlet as-sisted by the members of customary village youth club showed a great vivacity when installing billboards containing the rejection against the Benoa Bay reclamation,” said Sutristya Adi Putra.

Sutama added that the decision to reject the reclamation was based

on several reasons. For instance, it refers to the decisions of the Hindu Dharma Council of Indonesia (PHDI) and results of the studies carried out by the Udayana Uni-versity stating if the Benoa Bay is a sacred area and do not need to be reclaimed. Decisions of both agencies become the basis for the struggle made by Peguyangan Kaja village to animate the movement in rejecting reclamation in the guise of revitalization. (kmb12)

“We are going to make an ap-proach for cooperation with the four customary villages of Dalem

Tamblingan. It is meant to man-age the Lake Tamblingan. The visit rate to Lake Tamblingan

like trekking and pre-wedding photo session has showed an increase of five percent from the previous year,” said Secre-tary of the Buleleng Culture and Tourism Agency, Ketut Arjana, Tuesday (Jun. 21).

According to Arjana, coopera-tion in the field of tourism should pay attention to the local and central authorities. It happens

because people are certainly prohibited from doing any harm-ing activities in inappropriate location within the conservation area.

For example, it is not allowed to commit illegal logging and disrupts trees and harms nature. The area of Lake Tamblingan must be well preserved. “On that account, it is required the com-

munication process at central and local level. Legal efforts should be shared. All this time, the BKSDA is managed by the Ministry of Forestry. After the issuance of regional autonomy, local area is allowed to make cooperation. The process should be established together so that it will not mutually harm,” he said. (kmb34)

Enbridge Energy, based in Cal-gary, Alberta, said its purchases would include skimming and con-tainment devices that would help crews recover oil quickly in open water and even during icy condi-tions in the Straits of Mackinac, a nearly 5-mile-wide waterway that separates Michigan’s two peninsulas.

“In the very unlikely event that we have to respond to a pipeline incident, we’re ready,” said Ste-phen Lloyd, a senior manager of emergency response with the company.

Enbridge announced the equip-ment buys as it kicked off a three-day public relations tour in northern Michigan, to include “open-house” barbecues in six towns featuring presentations and exhibits designed to convince residents the pipeline known as “Line 5” has never leaked, is in good shape and poses no risk to the scenic area and its

tourism-based economy.Line 5, which carries nearly

23 million gallons of light crude oil and liquefied natural gas daily, runs underground across northern Wisconsin and the southern tier of Michigan’s Upper Peninsula before dividing into two sections that extend across the bottom of the Straits of Mackinac, as deep as 270 feet. From there, it continues underground to refineries in Sarnia, Ontario.

Numerous elected officials, in-cluding some members of Congress and Michigan’s attorney general, have raised concerns about Line 5 since another Enbridge pipeline ruptured in southern Michigan in 2010, releasing more than 800,000 gallons of oil into the Kalamazoo River and a tributary creek.

Environmental groups want Line 5 shut down or rerouted away from the straits area, contending the 63-year-old pipeline is too great a

danger. A University of Michigan study identified 720 miles of U.S. and Canadian shoreline that could be fouled by a significant release, depending on factors such as weather and currents.

“This really makes you wonder why Enbridge is not coming to the table and admitting that eventually this infrastructure has to be decom-missioned,” said Liz Kirkwood, executive director of For Love of Water, a group opposed to Line 5.

Enbridge says the underwater section is inspected regularly — from inside and outside — and monitored continuously from its operations center, where staffers who detect a problem could re-motely stop the flow within three minutes. The U.S. agency that regu-lates pipelines recently released a consultant’s study that found no corrosion issues with the pipes, but critics noted it relied on Enbridge data. State officials are planning an independent evaluation.

Lloyd said Enbridge has taken additional steps to prepare for the worst, including basing a perma-nent crew in the straits-area town of St. Ignace. In response to a consultant’s recommendation, the company is stockpiling additional boom — floating barriers that can contain and absorb oil.

It’s also ordering eight custom-made devices for the straits area that can be towed to where they are needed, suck up contaminated water and remove the oil for of-floading to another vessel, Lloyd said. Others could be obtained from an industry cooperative during an emergency.

“That would prevent it from landing on shorelines and sensitive areas to begin with,” Lloyd said.

Enbridge also is getting two “bucket skimmers,” which re-semble circular brushes attached to robot arms that can scrub oil from patches of ice. During winter, the straits often develop ice cover that’s several feet thick. In such condi-tions, icebreaking vessels might be needed to create openings where the skimmers could operate.

Kirkwood said even with the ad-ditional equipment, it’s likely that much of the oil from a Line 5 spill would remain in the water.

“We know from previous oil spill disasters that there are severe limitations with existing technol-ogy on recovering oil in extreme conditions like those that exist in the straits,” she said. (ap)

NEW YORK — Twitter is now letting its users post videos that are up to 140 seconds long, an increase from its previous 30-second limit.

The move is part of the so-cial media company’s efforts to attract a broader set of users, some of whom feel confined by its limits on the length of tweets — as well as videos. It’s also likely to help users make money from such videos, and comes at a time when online videos are becoming increasingly wide-spread and popular, especially on the platforms of rivals such as Facebook.

Videos will also be longer on Vine, Twitter’s video-sharing social network. Twitter said that it is starting with a “small group” of Vine creators who will “be able to add a video to their Vine, turning the six second Vine into a trailer for a bigger story.”

The San Francisco company also launched an app called Twit-ter Engage for those it calls “in-

fluential creators.” It’s designed to help them interact with fans.

Finally, Twitter retooled its service and Vine to make brows-ing for and finding videos easier. Mobile users can now tap a video tweet or a Vine to launch it in full-screen mode. Suggested, similar videos will appear be-low.

Digi tal video advert is ing spending in the U.S. should reach $9.84 billion this year, up from $7.66 billion in 2015, according to research firm eMarketer. As more people watch online videos than TV, advertisers are follow-ing suit. By 2020, eMarketer expects digital video ad spending to reach $16.69 billion.

Twitter Inc. currently has about 310 mi l l ion month ly active users, small potatoes compared with Facebook’s 1.65 billion. The professional on-line network LinkedIn has 433 million members, but many of these users do not log in every month. (ap)

This undated photo provided by Enbridge Energy shows a high-speed skimmer, a device that removes spilled oil from wa-terways. Enbridge says it is purchasing eight similar devices and will store them near the Straits of Mackinac, the waterway where Lakes Huron and Michigan meet. Twin pipelines owned by Enbridge carry millions of gallons of oil daily beneath the straits, and Enbridge says the equipment will be available in the event of a spill.

The audience then was dissolved a graceful creation of welcome dance named Puspita Lestari. Pus-pita meaning assorted flowers sym-bolizes a beautiful woman. At the same time, it also symbolizes the beauty always fully occupying the universe so that it needs organizing and preserving. Thus, flowers can exude coolness, comfort and peace of the world and its contents.

Dynamic dance movements and full of energy can be seen in the duet creation dance entitled Satya Geni. The dancers moved swiftly and even jumped when narrating about of the Lord Se-

mara and Goddess Ratih. After this dance, it was played the gamelan creation entitled Praja Winangun. This gamelan compo-sition depicts the spirit of preserv-ing culture of all times to avoid it from extinction.

After that, two creation dances were successively displayed, name-ly the Legong Biseka Naya and the Angkus Purana. In terms of its name, the Legong Biseka Naya in-deed sounds classic. However, the dance is worked on creatively by featuring the story on the sadness of czarina, Dewa Ayu Denbencingah, due to the death of her husband,

Dewa Anom Rai, while the Angkus Purana tells about the story of Bima who saves the soul of King Pandu and Queen Madri from the crater in the afterlife realm.

Chief of Gita Lestari art studio, I Ketut Darya, said that the process of preparing the whole dance and gamelan music creations took place for three months. At least ten cho-reographers and gamelan players are involved, including his son. While he total dancers and gamelan players reached 45 people, mostly consisting of the students of the SMKN 3 Sukawati art vocational school.

“We are happy and dare to suf-fer losses to take this job. Probably the development fund worth IDR 14 million is not comparable. But most importantly, we are happy and love the arts. So, the whole gamelan composition is performed for the first in this BAF,” he said. (kmb32)

SINGARAJA - Five villages belonging to Bali Aga or ancient villages in Buleleng start to be developed by local government. This development is realized by establishing a culture-based rural area. This program is implemented because the five villages have uniqueness and potential worth to support the tourism development in North Bali. To support this program, the five ancient villages asked that the issue of clean water must be handled first. So far, the five villages always face water crisis every dry season.

It was revealed in technical assistance of the culture-based village area, Tuesday (Jun. 21). This two-day technical assistance involved customary and admin-istrative village apparatus, and relevant institutions at the ancient villages in Buleleng. Three speak-ers from the Ministry of Rural Af-fairs, Regional Development and Transmigration provided materials in the guidance.

From the growing discussion, the program is fully supported by all the village apparatuses, and institutions at the five ancient villages. However to support the development, the regional and cen-tral government is expected to find a way out to overcome the water crisis happening every dry season. Clean water is a crucial issue hav-ing been unresolved until this year. In line with the government’s pro-gram, this issue is expected to be resolved, so that the program at the five villages can run in accordance with the plan.

In addition to proposing the solution to the water crisis, this development should be followed up in the future by the establish-ment of village-owned enterprises (BUMDes) together. Thus, the five ancient villages will be man-

aged under a management entirely intended for the welfare of society and cultural potential of the five villages can be protected from the influence of modern times.

The head of community em-powerment and village government agency (BPM-PD), Gede Sandhi-yasa, said that local government will facilitate the issue of clean water crisis to central government. “From the first day of the technical assistance the participants from five ancient villages suggested that lo-cal government helps the handling of water crisis and we will facilitate so that proposal in this technical guidance can be assisted by central government,” he said.

On the other hand, the Sawan subdistrict head said that culture-based rural development is a pro-gram of the BPM-PD referring to the regional bylaw on district spatial planning (RTRWK) of Buleleng. In this regulation, the government establishes five an-cient villages into a culture-based village area. The villages include Sidatapa, Cempaga, Tigawasa, Pedawa (SCTP) and Banyuseri village in Banjar.

Lately the five villages are known to have cultural heritages like customary life, implementa-tion of religious rituals, grammar, potential of crafts and plantation. Uniqueness of the five ancient villages makes local government form the culture-based village area. This program is expected to be able to protect the potential of culture, craft and agriculture plantation and support the tourism development in North Bali. “In the future, it will be followed up by the establishment of BUMDes at the five ancient vil-lages. Thus, the area will be well managed and can be protected from cultural influence in the modern times,” said Sandhiyasa. (kmb38)

The North’s suspected Musudan tests worry Washington and its al-lies, Tokyo and Seoul, because the missile’s potential 3,500-kilometer (2,180-mile) range puts much of Asia and the Pacific, including U.S. military bases there, within reach.

Japanese Defense Minister Gen Nakatani said the most recent launch demonstrated a “certain

level of capability,” and could lead to a further strengthening of North Korea’s ballistic missile capabilities that can cover Japanese territory.

Each new test — apparently linked to a command from North Korean leader Kim Jong Un — likely provides valuable insights to the North’s scientists and mili-tary officials as they push toward

their goal of a nuclear and missile program that can threaten the U.S. mainland. Pyongyang earlier this year conducted a nuclear test, its fourth, and launched a long-range rocket that outsiders say was a cover for a test of banned missile technology.

A statement from South Korea’s Joint Chiefs of Staff said a sus-

pected first Musudan launch from the east coast city of Wonsan failed. It didn’t elaborate, but Japan’s Defense Ministry said the missile fragmented and pieces fell into waters off the Korean Peninsula’s east coast.

Later Wednesday, the South’s military said the North fired another suspected Musudan, which flew about 400 kilometers (245 miles). Seoul didn’t immediately classify this launch as either a success or failure. Japan’s Defense Ministry said that its radar analysis found that the missile reached an altitude exceeding 1,000 kilometers (620 miles), which suggests it was a Musudan missile.

“We have to see it as a success,” Lee Choon Geun, an analyst at South Korea’s state-funded Science and Technology Policy Institute, said of the second launch. “No other (previous) missiles fired by North Korea have ever flown that high.”

The U.S. Strategic Command in Hawaii said its systems detected and tracked two suspected North Korean Musudan missiles that fell into the Sea of Japan. They didn’t pose a threat to North America, it said.

In April, North Korea attempted unsuccessfully to launch three suspected Musudan missiles, but all exploded midair or crashed, ac-cording to South Korean defense officials. Earlier this month, North Korea had another suspected Musu-dan failure, South Korean officials said.

Before April’s launches, North Korea had never flight-tested a Musudan missile, although one was displayed during a military parade in 2010 in Pyongyang.

The launches appear to stem

from Kim Jong Un’s order in March for more nuclear and bal-listic missile tests. The order was an apparent response to springtime U.S.-South Korean military drills, which North Korea views as an invasion rehearsal.

Since the end of those military drills, Pyongyang has repeatedly called for the resumption of talks with Seoul, even as it pursues new missile development, but the South has rejected the overtures. Seoul wants the North to first take steps toward nuclear disarmament. Pyongyang says its rivals must negotiate with it as an established nuclear power, something Washing-ton and Seoul refuse to do.

The string of recent launch attempts shows the North is push-ing hard to upgrade its missile capability in defiance of U.S.-led international pressure. The North was slapped with the strongest U.N. sanctions in two decades after its nuclear test and long-range rocket launch earlier this year.

“These provocations only serve to increase the international com-munity’s resolve to counter (North Korea’s) prohibited activities, including through implement-ing existing U.N. Security Coun-cil sanctions,” State Department spokesman John Kirby said. “We intend to raise our concerns at the U.N. to bolster international resolve in holding (North Korea) accountable for these provocative actions.”

South Korea’s Unification Min-istry called the launches a “clear provocation.” In Tokyo, Prime Minister Shinzo Abe was also critical, saying, “We find it utterly unforgivable.”(ap)

BERLIN — German police say tests on exhumed bodies sug-gest that a male nurse sentenced to life in prison for killing two patients with overdoses of heart medication likely killed many more people.

Oldenburg police chief Johann Kuehme said Wednesday that investigators found residues of a heart drug in 27 of 99 patients from a hospital in nearby Delmenhorst who were exhumed, news agency dpa reported.

A court in Oldenburg in northern Germany last year convicted the 39-year-old man, identified only as Niels H. in line with German privacy rules, of murder and at-tempted murder.

During the trial, he had said he intentionally brought about cardiac crises in some 90 patients because he enjoyed the feeling of being able to resuscitate them. He said 30 patients died.(ap)

North Korea makes apparent progress with midrange missile

SEOUL — North Korea took a significant step Wednesday in the development of a powerful ballistic missile intended to reach U.S. bases in the Pacific, launching one of the weapons about 1,000 kilometers (620 miles) high after five failed attempts in recent months.

Balinese Hindus celebrate Sara-swati Day on Saturday (Aug 10). The celebration falling every 210 days or six months to be exact on the Saniscara (SaturdayB Umanis Watugunung is dedicated to worship Goddess Sarasvati as the creator of science. Pupils, college students, priests and Hindu communities cel-ebrate the festivity. On the holy day, all scriptures particularly palm-leaf manuscripts, the Vedas and books as the resource of knowledge are consecrated and given offerings. Typically, those books are conse-crated at Satvika time or from sun-rise to 11:00 a.m. because it is the calmest and sunniest atmosphere. Meanwhile, at the Rajasika time (noon, turbulent) and tamasika time (night, dim moment) are considered less appropriate.

I Ketut Wiana, a religion lec-turer at the Hindu Dharma Institute (IHDN) Denpasar said that Goddess Sarasvati was symbolized as a very beautiful and charming goddess. It implied if the science was beautiful because it led human towards physi-cal and spiritual well-being. Goddess Sarasvati had four hands where each

carried beads, book, vina (fiddle music instrument) and kumbhaja (lotus flower). Besides, she also had a vehicle in the form of lotus flower and was accompanied by peacock and geese.

The Sundarigama palm-leaf man-uscript, explained Wiana, mentioned that it was not allowed to read any books on the Sarasvati feast because on the day the Hindus performed Sarasvati abstinence known as small abstinence (bratha nista), medium abstinence (bratha madya) and pri-mary abstinence (bratha utama). Brata nista stood for reading books and writing. Bratha madya meant to read and write after rajasika time. Meanwhile, the bratha utama was marked with the implementation of meditation (yoga) and did not read and write at all.

Sarasvati ritual was very unique because it was not only celebrated in a single day. On the following days, there were some holy days belonging to the series of the ritual. They were consisting of Banyu Pinaruh falling on Redite (Sunday) Paing, Soma Ribek falling on Soma (Monday) Pon and Pagerwesi falling on Buda

Kliwon Sinta (Wednesday). These feasts had an interrelationship. The celebration of Sarasvati to Pagerwesi had a very close relationship. If on Sarasvati Day the Hindus worshiped Goddess Saraswati having revealed the knowledge, on the following day was the implementation of Banyu Pinaruh.

This holy day had philosophical meaning that the science flowed like banyu (water) and then cooled down the humans so they should explore science. On this day, people were doing a self-purification by taking a shower and wash in the holy places such as lake, sea and campuhan (confluence). After Banyu Pinaruh, added Wiana, was Soma Ribek meaning that when humans were fed with science and had expertise, they would be very valuable when it could be shared and applied to positive things bringing in sig-nificant changes to the community. The last one was Pagerwesi. After humans applied their knowledge, they were expected to become a quality teacher (a role model) in delivering the science to widest public. (kmb)

Chief of the Nong Nong Kling Studio, Nyoman Suardika, admitted to romp with time because the per-formance ranging from the gamelan accompaniment to Bondres mask is limited to 80 minutes. Nevertheless, he remained to pursue the best performance.

“Our storyline is about the pest and disease preven-tion ritual process by Dalem Waturenggong at Besakih Temple. From the performance, I can insert how devo-tees face difficulties related to the current theme of the BAF namely the Karang Awak loving the self includ-ing the Balinese culture, the customs, and the system of organization, seven elements of culture composing the culture,” he said after the performance.

Suardika added there is one additional message inserted into the Bondres Mask by the Nong Nong Kling Studio. The message is delivered through a creative youth leader played by the artist Gede Pasek. “So, we take it (a leader of creative youth) because the current situation is like this, we cannot live without creativity,” he explained.

Aside from creative youth leader, continued Su-ardika, there is also penasar figure played by him. Then, the figure Kartala was played by Gede Nanda,

Bondres ‘klepon 12 million’ played by Komang Ajik, and figure Ayu Ting Ting by Gede Mas. Penasar is in charge of presenting the storyline and sermon through the Bondres.

“Bondres is indeed to generate laughter but inserted with the concepts of religious teachings. Creative youth figure and Ayu Ting Ting describe the youth as the backbone of rural development. In Singaraja, we are also trusted by the regent to dis-seminate information about AIDS and the hazards of drugs,” he explained.

One of the juries of the Bondres mask, I Nyoman Catra (ISI) said that the assessment criteria include the idea, storyline, philosophy and technical matters. Technical perspective includes the capability of danc-ing and acting, rhetoric and the dynamics in the vocals, jokes, harmony between the players as well as other elements such as gamelan and the concept of stage.

“Ultimately, it has something to do with catchy appearance or divine vibration. It is invisible, but the audience can feel,” said the man becoming the jury with I Ketut Kodi (ISI) and Wayan Butuantara (Unhi Denpasar). (kmb32)

BUSINESS

Already, one Iranian official has said the deal could involve 100 aircraft while another has suggested Iranian airlines may purchase airplanes worth $25 billion from Chicago-based Boeing, welcome news to workers on its massive as-sembly plants around Seattle.

However, the long-standing enmity between the U.S. and Iran, as well as other sanctions and even presidential politics still could com-plicate any agreement — even after last year’s nuclear deal. And even if the agreement is finalized, aircraft orders are often announced at list prices, meaning the actual price tag would likely be lower as airlines typically get steep discounts.

Boeing issued a statement to The Associated Press saying that it signed the Iran Air agreement “under authorizations from the U.S. government following a determina-tion that Iran had met its obligations under the nuclear accord reached last summer.

“Boeing will continue to follow the lead of the U.S. government with regards to working with Iran’s airlines, and any and all contracts with Iran’s airlines will be con-tingent upon U.S. government ap-proval,” it said.

Boeing’s statement offered no further details. Fakher Daghestani, a Dubai-based spokesman for the manufacturer, declined to elaborate.

State Department spokesman John Kirby said, “The State De-partment welcomes Boeing’s an-nouncement of this deal with Iran Air, which involves the type of permissible business activity envi-sioned in the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action. Boeing has been in close contact with the State Depart-ment regarding this deal. We com-mitted, as you know, to license sales of civil passenger aircraft and will continue to implement this in all of our JCPOA commitments.”

He added that, “The JCPOA pro-vides an opening for civil aviation companies, including American companies, to pursue legitimate commerce with Iran, and we note reports of progress in the aviation

sector, which is good both — for both the economy and for public safety.”

Asked to react to Boeing’s asser-tion that the company had signed the Iran Air agreement under autho-rizations from the U.S. government, the Treasury Department said it does not comment on specific enti-ties in such business scenarios.

Iran Air, the country’s national carrier, said Monday it wanted to buy new Boeing 737s and 777s. The 737s are single aisle jets, typi-cally used for flights of up to five hours. The 777 is a larger plane that can carry passengers for 12 hours or more.

Earlier Tuesday, Iran’s Trans-portation Minister Abbas Akhoundi said possible deals between the Islamic Republic and Boeing could be worth as much as $25 billion, on par with the country’s earlier agreement with its European rival, Airbus. That deal was for 118 new planes. Iran also has ordered 20 air-planes from French-Italian aircraft manufacturer ATR.

“The initial talks were held and I can say Boeing is negotiating with the U.S. officials and possibly the amount of our purchase is equal to Airbus,” Akhoundi said.

The overall size of the proposed Boeing sale to Iran, however, remains unclear. Ali Abedzadeh, the head of Iran’s Civil Aviation Organization, was quoted Sunday by the state-run IRAN newspaper as saying the sale would involve 100 Boeing aircraft, something the manufacturer has declined to discuss. If the deal goes through, he said the first Boeing plane could arrive in Iran in October.

Some analysts were skeptical that Iran will ever take delivery of so many jets. “A $25 billion deal delivered by unicorns — flying uni-corns,” said Richard Aboulafia, an analyst with the Teal Group Corp. “Some planes may or may not be delivered but everyone has a huge interest in inflating the likelihood of this happening. Airbus and Boeing are desperate for a growth story and the Iranians love commercial op-

portunities for political leverage.”Aboulafia said the market faces

too much competition from Etihad, Emirates and Qatar — the rapidly-growing airlines directly across the Persian Gulf from Iran.

Iran Air, whose website lists 43 airplanes in its fleet, has direct flights to 35 international destina-tions, including London. The Eu-ropean Union eased its restrictions on Iran Air last week.

Increasing merketIn the past 12 months, global

airlines have scheduled 150,000 flights to and from Iran, with 22.7 million available seats, accord-ing to schedule tracking service Diio Mi. It is unclear how many of those seats were actually filled. By comparison, during that same period, there were 250,000 flights to and from Poland, a country with a similar GDP but roughly half the size of the population, with 34 million available seats. The world’s largest aviation market, the United States, had nearly 10 million sched-uled flights.

Iranian airlines have some 60 Boeing airplanes in service, but

most were purchased before the 1979 Islamic Revolution that ousted Shah Mohammad Reza Pahlavi and brought Islamists to power.

Out of Iran’s 250 commercial planes, 162 are flying while the rest are grounded due to lack of spare parts, Akhoundi said Tuesday. Parts and servicing remained nearly impossible to get while the world sanctioned Iran over its contested nuclear program.

The Iranian airline with the most service was Iran Air with 4.4 million of those seats, followed by Iran Aseman Airlines with 3.1 mil-lion, ATA Airlines and Mahan Air with 2.1 million each and Qeshm Airlines with 1.8 million. The larg-est non-Iranian airline to serve the country was Turkish Airlines with 1.3 million seats followed by Emir-ates Airline with 1.1 million seats.

Boeing has been cautious about entering Iran’s market as other sanctions remain in place against Tehran. American officials had said as recently as last weekend that the sale would need clearance from the U.S. Treasury.

It’s unclear what changed in the last few days. It is likely Boeing

may run the sale through an over-seas subsidiary and use a currency other than U.S. dollars in order to avoid running afoul of American laws.

Ben Moores, an aerospace ana-lyst with IHS, said the deal likely would need to involve leasing aircraft as well because Iran desper-ately needed airplanes now. He also suggested Boeing may be willing to deeply discount some of its older model 737 aircraft — meaning the $25 billion figure might be based on retail prices.

“No one’s going to pay list price,” he said. “I don’t think it will be any-where near the $25 billion — that’s a huge order.” At the end of May, Boeing had a total of 5,762 unfilled jet orders. While exact details were not available, this deal with Iran Air would add about 100 addition planes to that backlog assuming that figure is the list price.

However, many of those orders are for the latest generation of jets that aren’t yet rolling off assembly lines. Boeing has been trying to get orders for its current models to help bridge the production gap to keep its plants open.(ap)

Boeing says it signs historic sales agreement with Iran Air

DUBAI — Boeing Co. said Tuesday it signed an agreement with Iran Air “expressing the airline’s intent” to buy its air-craft, setting up the biggest business deal between the Islamic Republic and America since the 1979 U.S. Embassy takeover in Tehran — if it goes through.

In this photo taken on Feb. 7, 2016, A Iranian Mahan Air passenger plane takes off as a plane of Iran’s national air carrier, Iran Air, is parked at left, at Mehrabad airport in Tehran, Iran.

The migrant boat came ashore more than a week ago after its en-gine broke down off the northern-most province of Sumatra. Indone-sia provided food, water and repairs but refused to let the 44 migrants disembark until Saturday.

They have been sheltered in tents, and Indonesian efforts to refloat the beached vessel have ended with it tilted on its side and its engine inundated by seawater. The International Organization for Mi-gration said Tuesday that Indonesia

has invited it and the U.N.’s refugee agency to assist the migrants.

IOM said it is providing aid as needed and assessing what the migrants’ needs are likely to be in the coming days and weeks. The mi-grants, who left from India a month ago, may have originally come from Sri Lanka where the Tamil minority has suffered persecution.

Some of the migrants told The Associated Press last week they had been in India for several years and had paid a significant amount

of money for the boat to take them to Australia.

Indonesia has insisted it would be acceptable to tow the group back out to sea because Indonesia wasn’t their destination, a stance that has been con-demned by human rights groups.

“Mother Nature has forced the issue as it impossible for this group to safely remain aboard the vessel ...,” IOM said in a statement. But the head of the immigration office in Aceh continued to insist the shelter given to the Tamils was temporary.

“The government’s position is still the same. We will be towing them back to international waters,” said the immigration official Ach-mad Samadan.(ap)

JAKARTA - Coordinating Minister of Political, Legal and Security Affairs Luhut Binsar Pandjaitan claimed that there are no plans to revoke the establishment of the National Cyber Board, as stated by Minister of Administrative and Bureaucratic Reforms, Yuddy Chrisnandi.

Although he was reluctant to reveal the details, Luhut, who was on his way to a hearing with Commission III of the House of Representatives, Tuesday, simply stated that there are no plans to revoke the scheme to set up such a Board. “No, no. I need to attend the meeting first,” he said as he scurried into the room.

Minister of Administrative and Bureaucratic Reforms, Yuddi Chrisnandi, had earlier in the day claimed that the government will task the State Cryp-tography Agency with carrying out cyber surveillance.

Yuddy, after attending a meeting at the Coordinating Ministry of Political, Legal and Security Affairs, had made the statement about scrapping of the plans to establish the National Cyber Board.

He also explained that since the new state institutions establishment was being delayed, the President was looking for an existing body that would have the required ability, facilities and human resources to tackle cyber issues. He noted that the meeting seemed to be opting for State Cryptography Agency. To carry out cyber surveillance with efficiency, the Agency will be assisted by the Ministry of Communication and Informatics. It will also undergo revitalization process regarding its functions, tasks and authorities.

Cyber crime is spreading across the globe, and government needs to shore up defenses against it as data and information sources accessible to both, the government and the public, remain at risk.(ant)

JAKARTA - Indonesian De-fense Minister Ryamizard Ryacudu paid a courtesy call to his Philippine counterpart Gazmin T Voltaire in Manila on Tuesday to discuss efforts to strengthen the already existing good defense cooperation between the two countries.

The strong bilateral relations be-tween the two neighboring countries will hopefully help strengthen trilat-eral cooperation involving Indonesia, the Philippines and Malaysia, particu-

larly in the field of maritime security cooperation, Voltaire said in a press statement released on Tuesday.

“Strong bilateral ties between the two countries will help strengthen trilateral ties to ensure security in the region. What is more, Indone-sia and the Philippines had signed a border agreement in 1975 and a maritime border delimitation agree-ment in 2014,” he added.

The Philippine secretary of defense further stated that the trilateral meeting

held on Monday (June 20) resulted in a commitment to take steps in favor of maintaining stability in the region. This way the three countries will con-tribute efficiently to the goals they set through these agreements.

At the meeting, Voltaire also expressed gratitude to Indonesia for its active contribution to the international monitoring team in Mindanau where the Philippine government has reached a final agreement with the Moro Islamic

Liberation Front (MILF).Meanwhile, Ryacudu said since

the trilateral meeting held in Vien-tiane, Laos, on the sidelines of the ASEAN Defense Ministers Meet-ing (ADMM), it was clear that the defense ministers of Indonesia, Malaysia and the Philippines shared the same ideas. Therefore, he ex-pressed the hope that this trilateral cooperation can immediately start contributing to usher a sense of se-curity and stability in the region.

The Indonesian defense minister said he was aware that the initial steps taken as part of the trilateral cooperation were far from being enough and needed improvement in the future. However, the defense ministries of the three countries shared the same view about mo-dalities to maintain security and stability in the region. He expressed the hope that a stable ASEAN may set an example for the rest of the world.(ant)

JAKARTA - Sandiago Uno (Sandi Uno), a young business leader is the closest rival in popularity and electability faced by incumbent Jakarta Governor Ahok for the next election, a survey said.

Director of Survey and Polling Indonesia (SPIN) Igor Dirgantara said a polling in Jakarta showed that Basuki Tjahaja Purnama (Ahok) still led with 34.1 percent of respondents saying they would vote for Ahok, with 15.2 percent saying they would give their votes for Sandi Uno.

Other hopefuls Yusril Ihza Mahendra was favored only by 14.7 percent, Adhyaksa Dault 11.2 percent, Abraham Lunggana 10.7 percent, Sjafrie Sjamsoeddin 9.5 percent and Hasnaeni Moein 4.6 percent.

“The telephoning research was made by asking respondents about their favorites to lead Jakarta after the next election in 2017, Igor said.

Igor said noteworthy about the result of the survey was that slow but certain Sandiaga Uno (Sandi Uno) gained popularity as a result of his ac-tive visits to the people including in slump areas of the capital city. “The people of Jakarta begin to know Sandi Uno more closely,” Igor said.

Sandi Uno is the most active in visiting people in their places especially those of middle to low class people. In the past three months, Sandi Uno has visited more than 105 kelurahan (the lowest government administration) in Jakarta. Sandi Uno also is active in maintaining communications with political parties. He even took part in fit and proper tests by a number of political parties other than Gerindra, which sponsored his candidacy.

Sandi Uno has gone through fit and proper tests by PDIP, Demokrat, PAN, PKB, PPP, and PKS, shown his flexibility.(ant)

CAIRO — A spokesman and a state news agency say clashes in Libya between pro-gov-ernment forces and the Islamic State militants, as well as an explosion at an ammunition depot, have killed over 60 people in just one day.

Hospital spokesman Abdel-Aziz Essa says 36 militia-men loyal to the U.N.-backed unity government died and 140 were wounded in Tuesday’s battles with Islamic state militants in the city of Sirte, the last IS bastion in Libya.

Essa, who is from the western city of Misrata that’s home to the majority of the anti-IS militias, said Wednesday that most of the casualties came in direct gun battles with the militants.

Meanwhile, at least 20 civilians were killed on Tues-day in an explosion at an ammunition store in the west-ern Libyan town of Garabulli, a municipal official said. Mohamed Assayed said the store was under control of an armed group from the city of Misrata, but the group had left their camp after clashing with local residents.

The explosion happened as residents entered the camp, though it was not immediately clear what had triggered the blast.

“The number of casualties is rising and we are working hard to transfer them to nearest hospitals,” Assayed said. Some 30 people had been wounded, he said.

A Garabulli resident, who also confirmed the deaths, said the clashes had erupted following a dispute in a shop between locals and a member of the armed group who was refusing to pay.

Following the clashes, some locals protested by blocking the main coastal road between Misrata and Tripoli, Assayed and the resident said. Garabulli is about 50 km (30 miles) east of Tripoli and 140 km west of Misrata. (ap/rtr)

BELLMORE — Authorities say more than 400 animals were removed from a squalid Long Island home less than a year after a 4-foot alliga-tor was removed from the property. The Nassau Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals says the rescue — dubbed “Operation Noah’s Ark” — lasted eight hours.

It says the Bellmore home had a free-roaming skunk and turtles in slimy water in addition to bird cages filled with feces.

More than 250 birds and more than 150 turtles were seized Tuesday along with four reptiles and a dozen mammals, including rabbits, chinchil-las, sugar gliders and prairie dogs. Authorities say homeowner Gary Gruber has been cited for having endangered turtles.

Defense attorney Nathan DeCorpo says peo-ple bring his client animals for rehabilitation, but that Gruber’s own health has deteriorated. (ap)

Poland to exhume victims of 2010 presidential plane crash

WARSAW — A spokesman for Poland’s top prosecutors says the remains of President Lech Kaczynski, his wife and other victims of a 2010 plane crash will be exhumed to help investigators determine the cause of the crash that killed 96 people.

Prosecutor Maciej Kujawski told The Associated Press on Wednesday that investigators are in talks with Polish and foreign experts who they want to carry out the exhumations at an un-specified time.

He said the post-mortem docu-ments that Poland received from Russia, where the crash occurred, are incomplete and in some cases erroneous and don’t help explain the reason of the crash that is under a renewed investigation in Poland.

The exhumation decision was taken Tuesday during a meeting with the families of some of the victims. (ap)

For every Kerri Walsh-Jennings making an Olympic pitch to consum-ers, there are two Jordan Burroughs. For every Missy Franklin, there’s another Ibtihaj Muhammad.

“The distinctiveness and depth of the marketing is much more pro-nounced this Games than it has been previously,” said Lisa Baird, the chief marketing officer of the U.S. Olympic Committee. “Its partners are going to the less-known athletes, and realizing the faces of the Games could be someone very different.”

Inside of two months before the start of the Rio Games, Burroughs is leading the way among this gen-eration of “new” faces. Though the thoughtful, family-man wrestler is a defending Olympic gold medal-ist, he certainly doesn’t have the same name recognition as Usain Bolt or Michael Phelps. That didn’t stop Hershey, Chobani and Ralph Lauren — three major players on the USOC’s sponsorship roster — from using him prominently as part of their campaigns.

Burroughs is married with a new-born and a 2-year-old. On his well-maintained personal website, he describes himself as an avid reader, fond of video games and interested in owning his own shoe and clothes store sometime in the future.

A self-styled normal guy, he has 140,000 Twitter followers, though that number only scratches the surface of the data available to advertisers as they seek the perfect pitchman.

MVP Index, a company co-founded by Jordan Spieth’s father, helps sponsors dig deeper into an athlete’s or entertainer’s overall

social-media impression. It looks at not only how many posts a celebrity makes, but how much attention those posts draw. Using a formula, it puts a value on certain types of posts de-pending on how well they draw an audience and where they’re posted. It makes the same judgments about the sort of views and responses those posts receive.

For example, Burroughs’ Insta-gram posts generated 1.5 million impressions for Chobani over the last 90 days with 21,400 “engage-ments” — people who respond to the posts. Because of that, and many other numbers, Burroughs ranks second behind U.S. soccer player Alex Morgan among the Olympians MVP Index is tracking.

“Social media is more than a sentence,” says the company’s chief marketing officer, Kyle Nelson. “A sentence is a post. Social media is a conversation. I want an athlete who’s going to build me into the conversation. It’s, how often can I be in front of an audience? Even if that audience is far smaller than what everyone else has, the totality of that conversation is going to be more meaningful.”

And yet, as much as the compa-nies appreciate numbers that help them break down audiences into finer and finer portions, “the ath-lete has to fit within the story and campaign we’re trying to do,” said David Palmer, who leads partner-ship and sponsorship at Hershey, which is in its first Olympics with the USOC. Burroughs is a big part of Hershey’s “Hello From Home” campaign — and the commercial he shot, in which he receives a box of

candy bars, along with some heart-felt, handwritten letters from back home, is a genuine tearjerker.

Visa, an Olympic sponsor for the past three decades, has a long list of the well-known — Walsh-Jennings, Franklin, Carli Lloyd — along with those who are not yet household names. Namely Muhammad, the Muslim fencer who chose her sport in part because it allowed her to compete while wearing a hijab.

The story of the 30-year-old from Maplewood, New Jersey, has been widely circulated in the run-up to the Olympics. Visa chose her not only for her well-spoken poise, but also to be part of a campaign that emphasizes “acceptance” — dovetailing the Olympic ideals of the world coming together with the company’s longstanding pitch of having the globe’s most-accepted card.

“We said, ‘Every single face on team Visa is not just going to be a super athlete, but they’re going to have a story behind them and some form of character that draws us to them and represents the concept of acceptance,” said Visa’s chief brand and innovation marketing officer, Chris Curtin.

Visa’s list of athletes covers the globe and sports from taekwondo to swimming, and includes some refu-gee athletes who will compete under the Olympic flag this summer.

Possibly one of the most out-of-the-box campaigns is being run by TD Ameritrade, which is focusing on building for the future. One of the ads paired four current Olympians — including track’s David Oliver and diving’s David Boudia — with four teenagers who may compete in 2020.

The names Tia Jones (track), Da-

mion Thomas (track), Jordan Windle (diving) and Sylvie Binder (fencing) may not resonate with many outside their own sports now. But four years from now, in Tokyo, they very well could.

“We wanted to do something dif-ferent, so we started thinking about our brand message,” said Dedra M. DeLilli, the company’s director of corporate sponsorships. “There’s the concept of everyone needing to plan for the future. That certainly resonates for the next generation of hopefuls. It’s an avenue to tell that story in a way that’s authentic to our brand.”

The take-home message for the advertisers this year: Make your money count. Sports marketing ex-pert Joe Favorito said “you can’t do it anymore by just saying, ‘So and so has 3 million Twitter followers, let’s go get him.”(ap)

MILWAUKEE — The Milwaukee Bucks have signed coach Jason Kidd to a three-year contract extension, keeping him in his position through the 2019-20 season, the team said Tuesday.

Bucks co-owner Wes Edens de-scribed Kidd as “the right man for the job” and said the team thinks there is

“no better fit to lead our young and talented roster.”

Kidd is entering the last year of a three-year deal with Milwaukee initially signed in 2014. He is 74-90 over his first two seasons, including a 41-win season and playoff appearance in 2014-15.

“We have a hard-working group of coaches that want to teach our young players and help them reach their full potential,” Kidd said in a statement. “We still have work to do but we’re committed to the goal of building a team that consistently competes for titles.”(ap)

Who’s the face of the Rio Games? It may not be who you think

This year more than ever, the so-called “face” of the Olym-pics could be a wrestler, or a fencer, or an athlete who most of the world has never heard of before. Armed with data that measures popularity in much deeper ways than in years past, and in hopes of picking the perfect storytellers to share their own stories, many top sponsors for the Summer Games are digging deeper into the roster of athletes for their marketing campaigns.

Candidasa is the name of traditional village situ-ated in the tranquility of Manggis District, Karangasem Regency, and east part of Bali Island. It is featured by the beautiful black sandy beaches, peaceful at-mosphere, pure natures and serenity ambiance that make it as ideal place to stay and relaxation. Some international hotels and restaurants have been built to accommodate all tourists who love to stay in the peaceful area those are all set beside of the main road from Semarapura to Amlapura. It is just 50 km away from Denpasar City taking the highway of Ida Bagus Matra.

Candidasa, Bali, Beach, KarangasemAccording to Bhuwana Tattwa Maharsi Markandya mentioned that Candidasa is one of Parhyangan Widhi (palace of god) but it is not mentioned why this village is called by Candidasa. It seems that the name of Candidasa is related to the existence of Lingga that is located on the top of Candidasa hills. In the Lontar of Sang Hyang Atma Lingga , Linggodbhawa mention that the top of

Siwa Siddhanta lesson is worshiping to Siva God and the Lingga as symbol of it existence. And then it is explained that Lingga has double aspects includes Siva Lingga and Atma Lingga. Both of these aspects are the process to unity with Siva God in meditation or rituals. Siva Lingga is a step where the Siva God goes into the human body through the head, meanwhile the Atma Lingga is a step when the soul unity with Siva God. In that time, in front of Bakta (Prayers) is set a Lingga while saying the holy word (Dasa Aksara) regularly. Based on that explanation, it can be predicted that the name of Candidasa is based on the holy word ‘Dasa Aksara’ then the altar is called by Candidasa.

Candidasa Temple is mentioned on Lontar of Bhuwana Tattwa Maharsi Markandya that is built by Rsi, Siva and Buddha Priest when Sri Jayapangus King rules in year 1112 Saka or 1190. Based on the epigraphic that the government of Sri Jayapangus is between 177 -1181 and can be predicted that Candi-dasa Temple is built on 12 century.

Argentina’s diminutive drib-bling and scoring machine showed the skills, speed and brilliance that made him a five-time world player of the year, exposing the huge gap between the U.S. and soccer’s elite.

Messi set up Ezequiel Lavezzi’s opening goal 175 seconds in, scored on a free kick to break Argentina’s career scoring record and assisted on the second of Gonzalo Higuain’s two goals in a 4-0 rout Tuesday night that put La Albiceleste into the Copa America final.

“We got outplayed badly by a very good team,” U.S. Soccer Federation President Sunil Gulati said. “Today is a good day to judge where we are in program overall. We’re obviously a long way off.”

Messi flicked the ball over the defense to an open Lavezzi for the opener, then doubled the lead in the 32nd minute with his 55th international goal, his fifth of the tournament. Higuain added goals in the 50th and 86th minutes, the latter off Messi’s pass. Argentina had 67 percent possession and outshot the U.S. 10-0 — nine of them on goal.

“Once we were 1-nil down, we had far too much respect,” U.S. coach Jurgen Klinsmann said. “Af-ter that early goal, I think just that our players could feel that they are just probably in every position on the field just better than we are.”

U.S. players seemed shocked af-ter their largest margin of defeat in a competitive match since a 5-0 loss

to Mexico in the 2009 CONCA-CAF Gold Cup final. While saying he respected Klinsmann’s opinion, U.S. captain Michael Bradley also said: “Please don’t make it out to be anything like that.”

Argentina seeks its first major title since the 1993 Copa — and its first since Messi’s debut in 2005 — on Sunday in East Rutherford, New Jersey, against the winner of Wednesday’s semifinal between Chile and Colombia. “We deserve it, for all the good work we’ve been doing all these years,” Messi said.

Argentina will be missing Lavez-zi, who broke his left elbow when he fell backward over an advertis-ing sign board in the 63rd minute while trying to chest a pass.

Hosting a special, expanded 16-nation edition of South America’s championship to celebrate Copa America’s 100th anniversary, the U.S. won a difficult group that in-cluded third-ranked Colombia and then beat No. 13 Ecuador in the quar-terfinals. But top-ranked Argentina and Messi, who turns 29 Friday and is at the top of his game, stunned the No. 31 U.S. and the sellout crowd of 70,858 at NRG Stadium.

“It’s some of his angles and his spurts and just going from a walk to an absolute sprint,” U.S. midfielder Kyle Beckerman said. “You try to do what you can to stop him, but once he gets going, it’s hard.”

The U.S. closes its tournament Saturday in the third-place match at Glendale, Arizona. Messi will try

to fill a major gap in his resume. He has helped Barcelona win eight titles in Spain’s La Liga and four in the Champions League, but his Argentina trophies have been limited to the 2005 FIFA World Youth Championship for players under 20 and the gold medal in the 2008 Olympics, mostly for players under 23. La Albiceleste lost to Germany in the 2014 World Cup final in Brazil and to host Chile on penalty kicks in last year’s Copa America final.

“I think that since losing the final in Brazil, these players set out to have a new possibility,” Argentina coach Gerardo Martino said.

Klinsmann inserted Beckerman and midfielder Graham Zusi into his lineup along with forward Chris Wondolowski because of suspen-sions assessed to midfielders Jer-maine Jones and Alejandro Bedoya, and forward Bobby Wood.

Argentina went ahead when Lavezzi played a short corner kick to Ever Banega, who passed back to Lavezzi sprinting from the corner diagonally. Lavezzi beat Fabian Johnson to the ball and poked it to an unmarked Messi about 25 yards out, in the center of the field. As the U.S. defense started to come out, Messi one-timed a flick with his left foot over the back line to Lavezzi, who headed the ball from 7 yards over goalkeeper Brad Gu-zan. Klinsmann tried to steady his players.

“You were trying to scream into the field, saying, ‘Go at them. Go. Become physical. Just step on their toes,’” he recalled. (ap)

BORDEAUX - Croatia striker Nikola Kalinic believes his country are now one of the favourites at Euro 2016 after beating Spain to win Group D.

Bookmakers’ odds for the Balkan nation to win the tournament have been been changed from 16-1 to 8-1 after the 2-1 victory in Bordeaux. Kalinic scored the equaliser to cancel out Spain’s early goal before Ivan Perisic grabbed a late winner.

“It was difficult after we fell behind but we showed that we are shoulder to shoulder with the world’s top teams,” Kalinic said. “We are now one of the big favou-rites of this tournament.”

Having been fined 100,000 euros for crowd trouble caused by their fans in a 2-2 draw against the Czechs, a makeshift Croatian side came from behind against the Spaniards after coach Ante Cacic made five changes to his side.

Kalinic’s confidence may not

be misplaced as Croatia’s 20-year-olds Tin Jedvaj and Marko Rog, both of whom were winning only their third caps, showed maturity beyond their years. Forward Marko Pjaca also shone as he delivered a defence-splitting pass for Perisic’s winner, with injured playmaker Luka Modric, Croatia’s key player, celebrating on the bench.

But Ivan Rakitic, who got the better of his Barcelona team mates featuring for Spain, struck a note of caution.

“Let’s not get carried away,” said the attacking midfielder who added he had “a few things to ex-plain” to his Spanish wife.

“We are overjoyed, we will cel-ebrate this win thoroughly but there is no room for complacency.”

Perisic added: “We bounced back after what happened against the Czechs and won the group, but it will mean nothing if we fail now.” (rtr)

PARIS — Two years on from perhaps his biggest disap-pointment in football, Mario Gomez staked a claim to lead Germany’s misf i r ing at tack at the European Champion-ship. Gomez, who wasn’t picked for Germany’s triumphant World Cup campaign

in Braz i l through poor form, scored his side’s sole goal in a 1-0 victory over Northern Ireland on Tuesday.

“I always said to myself, that wasn’t it. That doesn’t work. My time with the national team can’t be ended like that,” Gomez said. “I followed the guys on TV in 2014 and was a huge fan. But I always had the urge to return, to be there again. It’s simply something special, a special team packed with world class players.”

Germany coach Joachim Loew opted for a more direct approach against Northern Ireland that involved giving Mario Goetze a freer role and Gomez his first start at the competition. Loew had preferred Goetze up front in the opening games.

Gomez made the breakthrough against Northern Ireland in the 30th minute when he played Mueller in, and followed up to accept the back-pass and score with a deflected shot. The goal ensured that Germany topped Group C to play one of the third-place teams in the round of 16 in Lille on Sunday.

The 30-year-old is Germa-

ny’s first forward to score at Euro 2016. In its first game,

Germany had to rely on defender Shkodran Mustafi and midfielder Bastian Schweinsteiger for its

2-0 win against Ukraine. The next game was a

was fulsome in his pra ise of the

striker.“We

didn’t have a false nine but a real nine,” he said through a translator. “He occupied two or three defend-ers because he likes to stay in the center ... That was very important

(ap)

(kmb32)

(kmb38)

(kmb34)

SINGARAJA - The Buleleng Culture and Tourism Agency is going to tighten cooperation in tourism sector with the four customary village of Dalem Tamblingan. The management is admitted to require coordination of the Natural Resources Conservation Agency (BKSDA). For instance, it will made cooperation for the natural potential in the area of Lake Tam-blingan, Munduk village, Banjar.

He also explained that the Wonderful In-donesia tagline is not too famous in the past few years because of the lack of promotion. However, the government led by President Jokowi is now preparing 3 trillion rupiah to promote it throughout the world.

“I believe that the Wonderful Indonesia will present in the next five years. Then we will start thinking of rebranding it,” Rai said. He also thinks that Bali will contribute a lot in the Wonderful Indonesia Brand. Besides Bali, There are Batam and Jakarta as the Big Three of tourism destination in Bali.

“We always promote Wonderful Indo-nesia starting from the shirt that we wear, email and news and many more. We are trying to make the brand to be known troughout the world,” said Rai who is also

the Head of Promotion Division in Badung Government.

He also explained that Badung Govern-ment is working to promote Wonderful Indonesia in all media possible and co-operating with Indonesian Embassies all around the world. There are adds placed on International TV stations. “The huge fund to promote tourism will lead to bigger income from that sector,” he said.

Meanwhile the Head of Bali Villa Association Jero Mangku Wayan Suteja stated that the marketing and promotion done recently is better than the previous one. The methods are good and the target is clear. The bigger fund to promote tour-ism shows that the government is placing tourism as the foundation of Indonesian Economy.

“We must very grateful because the development of Indonesia is also helping the tourism sector. Tourism is needed in the future to develop the economy,” he added. Suteja thinks that tourism must protect the sustainability of nature and culture. It is different with other sectors which often

give negative effects on them. For Bali, according to Suteja, even it is

already promoted in Wonderful Indonesia but Bali Government must also keep pro-

moting the island. “Individual promotion is needed to maintain the tourism industry in Bali. All the stakeholders must cooperate to do this,” Suteja explained. (kmb32)

Messi leads Argentina over US 4-0, into Copa America final

Review: In ‘Wilderpeople,’ a manhunt for Kiwi farce

“Flight of the Conchords” went off the air in 2009 but the beat has gone on in the films of Taika Waititi.

F e s t i v a l (TLF) 2016 .

The potential owned by Lake Buyan and Lake Tamblingan will be promoted to increase the tourist

attractions in both lakes. Various entertaining attraction, arts and competition jazzed up the annual event in the North Bali.

The Head of the Buleleng Ag-riculture and Livestock Agency, Nyoman Swatantra, said that the TLF is held by the government for the second time. Previously, the government held the Buyan Festival. Lake Buyan and Lake

Tamblingan are assessed to need at-tention due to facing degradation in the preservation function. “TLF is held by the government on June 22-25. The agency as the leading sector is asked by the regent of Buleleng to conduct activities related to en-vironmental preservation. Inspired by the direction, it was then held the TLF,” said Swatantra accompanied by secretary of the Buleleng Culture

and Tourism Agency, Ketut Arjana, and spokesperson of Buleleng dis-trict, Made Supartawan, Tuesday (Jun. 21).

He explained that the SME exchanges and exhibitions must be maximized during the TLF implementation. In this event, the government also involves farmer groups from nine subdistricts. Excellence of the horticultural is

also promoted. “At Buyan many farmers do agricultural activities. We give priority to flora and hor-ticultural commodities. Exchange activities and exhibitions are also highlighted. The exhibition will highlight the agricultural products of the highlands,” he explained.
