Dear Eastminster Family, Let me use this space to mention four important Items of interest. General Assembly follow-up discussion to take place at 9:00 a.m. Sunday, August 10. Actions taken by the recent General Assembly of the Presbyterian Church U.S.A. have generated quite a stir. As your pastor, I need to do my best to interpret these actions, to share my own reflections, and to try to answer your questions. Please join me in the Christian Life Center, rooms 271-275, on Sunday, August 10 for this discussion. We will begin promptly at 9:00 a.m. Thank you and Godspeed to Jeff Smith, Mele Baize, and Carol Sutton. These three dedicated Eastminster staff members are making transitions. After 14 years lead- ing the Eastminster Day School, Mele Baize has accepted the director position at the Lake Murray Presbyterian Day School in Chapin. A reception thanking Mele for her service will take place Friday, August 8, from 11:30 a.m.- 1:00 p.m. in Thompson Hall. Current and previous Day School parents and students are welcome to attend. Carol Sutton, who serves as Administrative Assistant to the Senior Pastor, is retiring after 15 years at Eastminster. Carol has been a great help to me, even as she has also assisted with ministry ranging from baptism scheduling to making sure Session re- cords are kept in ways that are decent and in order. Carol will be honored at a lunch on Monday, August 4. Finally, as you know, the Rev. Jeff Smith has been called to serve as Senior Pastor at First Presbyterian in Boone, NC. A reception honoring Jeff, Angela and family will take place after worship July on 27. Rally Day, August 17. Yes, it’s time to start planning for Rally Day! Sunday, Au- gust 1700, is the day we will resume our usual schedule with three worship services and Sunday school classes for all ages. While some usual components of Rally Day, such as the congregational meal, will be delayed until the sanctuary is reopened for worship, August 17 is the day. As you will begin seeing shortly, our theme for this year will be “We are the Body.” Sanctuary Renovation. A four-minute video update can be found by visiting east- minsterpres.org, then clicking on “Construction Updates” in the lower right corner. The asbestos removal from the side rooms in the sanctuary building is underway. While it is the right course, our decision to undertake the asbestos abatement has added both time and cost to the project. Beyond that, Mashburn Construction has kept the project on track, and we are scheduled to return to the sanctuary in October. Dear Eastminster Family,

Let me use this space to mention four important Items of interest.

General Assembly follow-up discussion to take place at 9:00 a.m. Sunday, August 10. Actions taken by the recent General Assembly of the Presbyterian Church U.S.A. have generated quite a stir. As your pastor, I need to do my best to interpret these actions, to share my

own reflections, and to try to answer your questions.

After 14 years lead-ing the Eastminster Day School, Mele Baize has accepted the director position at the Lake Murray Presbyterian Day School in Chapin. Carol has been a great help to me, even as she has also assisted with ministry ranging from baptism scheduling to making sure Session re-cords are kept in ways that are decent and in order. Carol will be honored at a lunch on Monday, August 4. Finally, as you know, the Rev. Jeff Smith has been called to serve as Senior Pastor at First Presbyterian in Boone, NC. A reception honoring Jeff, Angela and family will take place after worship July on 27.

Join us for our last relaxed Sunday school tailgate time on the front lawn this summer. The idea is for you to bring your own lawn chair and team up at one of our tailgate tents. We will have coffee, juice, and whatever our tailgate friends decide to bring. Our hope is for us to get to know one another better and to share how God is at work in our lives. There’s no curriculum, just fellowship and intentional time of being together. Please dress casual and invite your friends!
