Scrappy’s Diner HasOpened At 10338 StateRoute 149 Ft Ann, NY
Frederick “Scrappy” Carao operated Fred’s Diner for manyyears in Whitehall, New York. It was a family operation, andhis daughter, Cynthia, was among the workers. Scrappy wasaptly named, as he was a feisty one. Cynthia remained in the restaurant business after Fred’s closed. She managed for others, then went out on her own in Argyle, and Ft Edward. When Henry’s Log Cabin Diner closed, Cynthiajumped at the chance to take over what had been an excellentrestaurant location over the years. She renamed it “Scrappy’s”in honor of her father, and carries on her father’s tradition ofproviding generous portions of really good food. Cynthia offers Breakfast from 6am til 2pm and Lunch beginsat 11am. For breakfast you can get cereals, omelets, griddle cakes, breakfast sandwiches, and many choices of meats and bever-ages. For lunch she offers burgers, hot dogs, cold sandwiches, grilledsandwiches, club sandwiches, soups, appetizers (like wings)salads, chicken tenders, chicken & biscuits, deluxe entrees andother delightful fare. For dessert you can try one of her scrump-tious pies, bread pudding, chocolate pudding, cheesecake, orstrawberry shortcake. (She makes her own biscuits!) She offers the absolute best oatmeal breakfast in the area, whichyou can get all day. Give Scrappy’s a try. She is there 6am til 2pm. Call ahead andyour meal can be ready for you. 518-741-0344.

“Patriot-- A person who loves his country, and zealously defends its interests.” Webster’sDictionary. Become a Patriot and help shape our Country’s Future!
I believe there are the patriots who “talk the talk,” and there are patriots who “walk the walk.”It’s easy to talk about the ideals of our country, but then its clearly a different matter to holdto your convictions and put words into action. The Veterans of our country are our bestexamples of commitment to the values our country stands for. Take a few moments and thinkof the Patriots that have paid the ultimate sacrifice for all of us, in this great republic. Think ofhow wonderful our country is, compared to others. Think, and be grateful for all things andopportunities we already enjoy, many of which would not be present if not for our devotedVeterans. I think our country presently is experiencing great challenges. If all of us would justbe better Patriots, whether in or out of uniform, and stand up for and demand that our rights, values and freedoms be maintained, those actions in themselves would be a great tribute to allVeterans who have served and are presently on duty around the world. When ever I see aservice person in uniform I enjoy a sense of confidence and security, and a renewed feeling ofpatriotism. My gratitude goes out to all of our wonderful military and all the great servicesthey perform. To those who have “walked the walk” stand tall, you are true Patriots, we thepeople salute you. Sincerely, Rich Entwistle, The Stovery.

VETERANS DAY OBSERVANCE:Veterans Day is intended to honor and thank all military personnel who served the United States in all wars, particularly living veterans. It is marked by parades and churchservices and in many places the American flag is hung at half mast. A period of silence lasting two minutes may be held at 11am. Some schools are closed on Veterans Day,while others do not close, but choose to mark the occasion with special assemblies or other activities.
Veterans Day is officially observed on November 11. However, if it falls on a Sunday, it is officially celebrated on the Monday following. On the 11th hour of the 11th day of the11th month of 1918 an armistice between Germany and the Allied nations came into effect. On November 11, 1919, Armistice Day was commemorated for the first time. In1919, President Wilson proclaimed the day should be "filled with solemn pride in the heroism of those who died in the country’s service and with gratitude for the victory".There were plans for parades, public meetings and a brief suspension of business activities at 11am.
In 1926, the United States Congress officially recognized the end of World War I and declared that the anniversary of the armistice should be commemorated with prayer andthanksgiving. The Congress also requested that the president should "issue a proclamation calling upon the officials to display the flag of the United States on allGovernment buildings on November 11 and inviting the people of the United States to observe the day in schools and churches, or other suitable places, with appropriateceremonies of friendly relations with all other peoples."
An Act (52 Stat. 351; 5 U. S. Code, Sec. 87a) was approved on May 13, 1938, which made November 11 in each year a legal holiday, known as Armistice Day. This day wasoriginally intended to honor veterans of World War I. A few years later, World War II required the largest mobilization of service men in the history of the United States andthe American forces fought in Korea. In 1954, the veterans service organizations urged Congress to change the word "Armistice" to "Veterans". Congress approved thischange and on June 1, 1954, November 11 became a day to honor all American veterans, whereever and whenever they had served.

OPTIMIZE YOUR FARM DEBT. Consider financing options to improve balance sheetsToday’s financial times put even seasoned producers to the test. They illustrate the importanceof planning for both ends of an ag cycle. Whenprices are higher, use that time to build yourworking capital. Certainly use some of yourfunds toward planned equipment purchases, but, realize the importance of reserving cashfunds for the future. Understand the impor-tance of evaluating financing options and fac-toring in future interest rates. Carefully con-sider whether those rates are applied using asimple or compounded formula as well as pay-ment terms and loan covenants when makinga purchase, regardless of the size of the item.If you’re going to spend money, make sure it’s in a way it will make money. Set BorrowingBoundaries. A good place to start is with your machinery fleet. For owned equipment, considerrefinancing options. “Machinery debt is a great option to reimburse working capital by puttinga new loan in place, especially if you’ve used cash in recent years to do capital expenditures,”says Adam Stonecipher, vice president and ag banking officer at First Midwest Bank in Danville,Ill. Be sure to only refinance loans on assets you intend to keep for the life of the loan. Many vendors are now offering financing for inputs. “The biggest factor to look at is when
money is due,” Stonecipher says. “In some cases, you bookinputs in the spring and don’t have to pay until after harvest. Ifyour marketing plan calls for storing crops until next spring, make sure you have an operating note in place to pay that billor you may incur major fees.”Difficult Decisions. By continually assessing finances andgoals, you can make good decisions. For example, stop farm-ing acreage of cash rent ground if it will create a loss.Continue to look for ways to trim expenses. Be prepared toevaluate expenditures and processes, even ones that may seemnormal and customary. Don’t let the drain of day-to-day opera-tions over power planning.
