celebration. In addition to the preparations planned by the Vil-

lage, the Historical Society and the Cambridge Valley Chamber

of Commerce, we would ask that everyone pitch in to help tidy

our town. Please do your part to make our streets, lawns and

gardens neat and clean. With everyone’s help we can make Cam-

bridge shine for its 150th Birthday !

It’s gardening time on Main Street, so please – when walking

your pooch in the village, don’t let him or her “water” or “fertil-

ize” the gardens along Main Street – our Chamber of Commerce

volunteers do that! And just to be clear, of course they use plant

fertilizer and H2O. Please remember to pick up after your pup!

Don’t forget about our drop boxes on Pearl Street across from

Varak Park. We welcome your contributions of unwanted cloth-

ing, blankets and fabric goods – but please, no trash, furniture orhousehold items. The Chamber uses the funds raised by recy-

cling fabrics to beautify Cambridge.

Plans for the 16th annual Cambridge Valley Balloon Festival are

carnival will start at 6pm on July 2 nd & July 3 rd and the

carnival will start as soon as the parade ends on July 4 th.

This year’s entertainment will be: Saturday July 2 nd-DJ-

Will Linendoll, Sunday July 3 rd the band Welkin, and Mon-

day July 4 th Krystal’s Lytle DJ Service. Our fireworks dis-

play will start at 9pm on July 4 th with a rain date for the

fireworks at 9pm on July 5 th. The parade will kick off at

5pm sharp with the parade line-up starting at 4pm on North

Main St by the Holy Cross Church.

SURROUNDING COMMUNITIES.Nathan Brown was like a lot of young adults. He enjoyed video games, music, family and

riends, and the outdoors. He had qualities that made him special, including his kindness,

enerosity, and his willingness to help others. He had great respect for veterans, and

oined the New York Army National Guard to serve our country. In 2004, Private First

Class Brown was killed during a mission in Iraq when a rocket propelled grenade hit him

n the chest. He was 21 years old. For his courage, valor, and ultimate sacrifice, he

eceived a Bronze Star, a Purple Heart, and a New York State Medal of Valor. A special

lood drive in his memory will be held in his hometown of Glens Falls on Friday, May

0 Noon-6:30 p.m. Glens Falls YMCA 600 Glen St., Glens Falls.

SFC (Ret.) Arthur Coon recruited PFC Brown. They saw each other for the last timewhen PFC Brown was being deployed to Iraq. As he was leaving, PFC Brown gave SFC

Ret.) Coon a backpack as a gift, a gesture that demonstrates PFC Brown’s generosity and

how he always put others before himself. “He was such a good soldier—he was always at

he Armory helping out,” said SFC (Ret.) Coon. “People may not know that the New York

Army National Guard also does a lot in the community, and Nate always asked if there

was something more that he could do for Glens Falls and other communities nearby.”

MAPFRE Insurance and Kinney Agency are once again supporting the blood drive. “What

great way to remember Nate and give back to others,” noted Todd Miller, Kinney Agency.

The community honored PFC Brown’s generous and selfless spirit a t the first blood drive

n his memory that was held last year. Support exceeded the goal, with more than double

he units of blood collected than was expected. The Brown Family and the American Red

Cross hope the community will show their support again. All presenting donors will receive

Bennington, VT: The Vermont Veterans’ Home is opening a

Veteran’s Community Garden on the property of the Home. This

initiative is to support members of our Veteran Community in the

Bennington area who have a desire to grow thei r own wholesome

It is no secret that market volatility increases in the spring and summer, particularly for thegrains. This year is starting out that way, with the statistical volatil ity for soybeans as an example

jumping from 13% in February to 25% thisweek. Options premiums have actually been a

little bit on the cheap side, with implied volabout 2% less than that actually being observedin the futures.When you have lots of volat ility, you can havemore margin calls as a futures using hedger(and a difficult time deciding when to jump asa cash seller). Many are of the opinion forsome time that options are a better fit for mostproducer’s risk profile because they are onedirectional. When you buy the inputs, your riskis only one direction, i.e. down. If prices for the prospective product rise, that is not a problem,but short futures make it one by generating a margin call. The numbers from the CME shownsuggest that producers (and other traders) are getting over concerns about the complexities of options and increasing their use to control the directional exposure. Some speculators are alsoattracted to the huge leverageof buying a $500 call option to control an $18,000 corn contract.As always, there is a significant risk of loss in futures and options trading.Corn futures retreated 3.8% this week after posting a 4.7% advance the previous week. Plantingprogress continues to run ahead of the 5 year average pace, soil moisture is adequate to surplus,and weekly export sales and corn use for ethanol slowed down. That’s a pretty tough combina-tion for the bulls to overcome. Export commitments YTD are now 90% of the full year forecastfrom USDA, still lagging the 5 year average of 93% for this date but definitely closing the gap.

Unshipped sales on the books are 1% larger than last year at this time (13.276 MMT). TheCommitment of Traders report confirmed that spec funds are still net long, but they did trimtheir recently required position by a net 8,749 contracts in the reporting week ending May 3.

UNCLE WALLY WONDERSWhy did we elect Mr Obama? Well, the reasons are not because of his socialist (some sayCommunist) policies. He hid those in his campaign. White folks voted for him for two reasons. One group, whoare not racist and simply wanted to put the whole race issueto bed because they are sick of the social strife, and thoughtObama could bring about that result. Others, who really areracists but wanted to disguise their feelings of racism, werethe second group. Black folks voted for him because they believed that he would

bring about better lives for them; perhaps voting in someonewho would give them a helping hand. (Remember the ladywho declared : “He will give us Obama phones?”)Well, the belief he would resolve racial strife was dashed whenhe got into office and began seeking reparations. He neverdid strive to bring the two factions together, but pushed racialagendas. Unfortunately, his socialist programs were not de-signed (perhaps in his mind they were) to bring about racialequality and better lives for blacks. Instead, those policiesbrought about worse conditions for all Americans. In that way,he did bring us all together; we are all worse off than beforehe took office. The better way to end racial strife is to institute policies thatmake all American lives better. The term “A rising tide liftsall boats” is appropriate in governing our nation. The possibilities for advancement are greater here than inany other nation on Earth. But, socialism has the oppositeeffect. It brings people down to a lower equality, stifling op-timism, and crippling the will to work hard for personal ad-vancement. As a result, both blacks and whites are reflecting on their

decision to put the first black person in office, without care-fully, considering his agenda. Our actions and his have failed us. I wonder have we learnedour lesson? Will we vote for Hillary just because we want tosee a woman in the White House? Lets not make that samekind of mistake again.
