DEFINITION OF KSSR KSSR is a an acronym for Kurikulum Standard Sekolah Rendah or Standard Curriculum for Primary Schools (SCPS) in english . Standard Curriculum for Primary Schools aims to produce a balanced , creative , critical and innovative through - communication , science and technology , physical and aesthetic development , personal skills , humanity and spirituality , attitudes and values Primary School Standard Curriculum based on the National Education Philosophy and the National Education Policy . With regard to the challenges of the 21st century , the New Economic Model ( NEM ) and the latest learning theory . USSR also adopted four pillars of UNESCO's education , which is learning to learn (learning to know ) , learn to act (learning to do) , learn to live together and learn to make a personal (learning to be). KSSR can ensure that after six (6) years of schooling pupils will achieve high standards of knowledge, skills and values that are set for each level. KSSR gives an emphasis on the 4M skills of reading, writing, mathematics and reasoning. Reasoning is the ability to make judgments and assessments to use common sense or logic. In Phase II, the emphasis is on strengthening and application of skills in addition to 4M master ICT skills, mastery of more complex skills, knowledge acquisition, and development of the personality.Students under the KSSR will have the following bases :- Balanced in terms of intellectual, spiritual, emotional, physical and social- Citizens who are responsible- Citizens who can play a part in the global arena (Global Player)- Knowledgeable StaffKSSR PRINCIPLESStandard Curriculum for Primary Schools maintains KBSR principles. This principle is maintained as it is still appropriate and relevant to produce a balanced and holistic. These principles are as follows:

1) An Integrated Approach Major focus is on an integrated approach. Elements of knowledge, skills and values are combined to create coherence in terms of intellectual, spiritual, emotional, physical and social.2) Comprehensive individual Development kSSR enacted to ensure all subjects cater to the intellectual, spiritual, emotional, physical and social. Each students potential develop by an integrated manner.3) Equal Education For All KSSR give all students from different races and background to have a chance at getting an education and also skills that is holistic and balanced.4) Education for Life KSSR provide the knowledge and skills needed by all students as a foundation for the challenges of daily life and lifelong learning.

New Curriculum in KSSRThere are 6 concepts introduced in the KSSR, it is a form of classification of fields of knowledge, skills and values . This concept focuses on the balanced development of human capital in terms of physical, emotional, spiritual, intellectual and social. These six concepts represent areas of knowledge, skills and values that form the basis of human development, as creative, critical and innovative. These concepts reflect explicitly the structuring of the field of knowledge, skills and values that students should master. Each concept is interrelated and integrated. The concepts is:1) Communication- Communication focuses on the process of combining intricate language skills in verbal and non-verbal form during interaction. It will focus on language skills such as listening and speaking, reading and writing, as well as value-added reasoning. Students need to master these skills to help them in the process of acquisition of knowledge, skills and values. To prepare the students with competence in language to able to interact socially in a timely and systematic manner . In the communication disciplines is Bahasa Malaysia, English, Chinese, Tamil, Arabic, Chinese national schools, Tamil national schools, Iban, Kadazandusun language and Bahasa Semai.

2) Physical Development and Aesthetic- Physical Development and Aesthetic emphasis on physical development and health, wellness and fostering imagination, creativity, talent and appreciation. Education disciplines that develop the physical aspect are the Physical Education and Health Education. Creativity, talent and appreciation nurtured through Visual Art Education and Music Education.

3) Humanity- Humanities focus on the acquisition of knowledge and practice of community and local environment, national and global, as well as to inculcate the spirit of patriotism and unity. 4) Personal Skills- Personal skills emphasis on nurturing self-leadership and personal development through curricular and co-curricular activities. Students are given the opportunity to integrate the knowledge, skills and values learned in the classroom and in extra-curricular practice. Involvement in extra-curricular activities such as associations and sports provide an opportunity to help students develop their potential as leaders to themselves, friends, family and community.

5) Science and Technology- Science and Technology emphasis on the mastering of - Scientific knowledge, skills and scientific behaviour- Knowledge, skills and value in mathematics- Technology based knowledge and skills

6) Spirituality , attitude and value- Spirituality, Attitudes and Values focus on areas of learning that focuses on the appreciation of religious practices, beliefs, attitudes and values.

Curriculum In KSSRStudents are divided in to two levels of curriculum. The first one is for standard 1-3 students while the second one is for standard 4-6 students. For the first level, the students have to learn three modules. The first one is the basic core module where the students will learn Bahasa Malaysia, English, mathematics, health education, physical education and Islamic education.The second one is theme core module where the students will learn about arts and music , science and technology and also about Malaysia or also known as history.The third one is the elective module in which the students will have to choose 1 language to learn between 4 languages that is Bahasa cina SK , Bahasa Tamil SK , Bahasa Arab and Bahasa Iban.The second level of curriculum that is for the standard 4-6 students meanwhile has a lot more modules than the first level. They have 6 modules. The first one is communicative modules. In it there is Bahasa Malaysia, English, Bahasa Cina and also Bahasa Tamil.The second one is the elective communication module in which the students have to pick one language from Bahasa cina SK , Bahasa Tamil SK , Bahasa Arab and Bahasa Iban to further add to the 4 that was in the first module.The third module is the spiritual, attitude and value module where muslim students will learn about islam while the non-muslim students will learn about moral education.The fourth module is the physical and esthetics module where the students will learn about physical education, health education , music education and arts.The fifth module is about science and technology in which the students will learn about science , mathematics and also about technology and design.The final module is the humanitarian module. In this module, the students will learn about history .
