STOP!LET’S TALK ABOUT

‘R’(PROGRAMMING LANGUAGE)

ADVANTAGES

ADVANTAGES

• wide range of statistical procedures

• pre formatted outputs• transaction logs and programming• comprehensive• can make the course realistic and

practical

DISADVANTAGES

• learning curve can be steep• too easy to generate output

COMPUTER-BASED TESTING

SYSTEMS

Computer-Based Testing Systems

an assessment in which responses were electronically

recorded or assessed

USES

• Student performance evaluation• Helps teachers to appropriate teaching

materials through the diagnoses• Tracks progress of the students• author, schedule, deliver, and report

on surveys, quizzes, tests and exams

EXAMPLES

• Pearson Vue Exams• UVLe• Edu20

ADVANTAGES

• reduce use of paper• preparation for more global economy• easier to change test if mistakes in

questionnaires are found• tests can be easier to retrieve• easier to write/type answers for students and

easier to read for the teachers

04/21/23

DISADVANTAGES

• accessibility• need for training

Electronic Gradebooks

• Is a teacher's online record of the students' lessons, assignments, progress and grades.

• A quick and easy way to maintain student grades froam semester to semester.

Ex. openSIS (open source) Open Admin for Schools (open source)

ADVANTAGES

● Teacher can set up weights or percentages.● Calculate grades easily● Examines missing assignments● Shows grade trends● Parents and students can access it● Eliminates the need to wait

DISADVANTAGES

• Possibility of forgetting password• Not all activities can be assessed by

grades• Parents might rely on the grades only

Student Response System

It allows a computer based feedback from students. It is a system that keeps students’ attention in class and get them excited about learning and participating.

Teacher’s Guide

ADVANTAGES

• Students are empowered to take control of their own progress — they can gain insight into areas where they need help and seek it out.

• Students who are reluctant to speak in class can respond to teachers' questions in anonymity.

• Teachers can do real-time assessments of students’ collective and individual comprehension of a lesson and use that information to adjust the lesson plan or provide personalized instruction.

ADVANTAGES

• Permits the teacher to see and display a summary of results immediately

• Uses range from vocabulary games to comprehension checks during a classroom presentation

• Easy way to engage all students at once

DISADVANTAGES

• Teachers will not be able to identify who among the students did not participate.

• The application relies on the internet.• There are limitations on users per

activity on some applications/websites. (Socrative is limited to 50 users per activity.)

Online Testing with Feedback

• It is an online test that gives comments, information or explanation on the student’s answers.

• It may also give information or explanation on some items which maybe given before, during or after the test answers are submitted for grading.

ADVANTAGES

• Immediate feedback• Accessible anytime and anywhere• Less error for checking the answers• Immediate results• Easier for the students to type or click

their answers as compared to writing

DISADVANTAGES

• Teachers cannot monitor their students

• Clarifications on test questions cannot be made

• Limited or no considerations• There is a need of computers and

stable internet connection
