BRIEF HISTORY OF OUR PROGRAM
• We are in our 3rd year as an Academy• Our HOSA enrollment has increased from
39 last year to 91 paid members this year.• We have just added a biology teacher to
our team, now giving us a Health teacher, Medical teacher, and two Language Arts teachers.
• This was our first time doing a huge integrated project
WHAT IS THE CSI PROJECT?
• An idea to create an integrated lesson that would involve everyone of our students.
• We came up with a mock crime scene and a whodunit scenario complete with character roles and scenarios that the students had to incorporate into the lesson.
• Roles included: Jury, Lawyers, CSI, 911 Dispatcher, Suspects, Witnesses, Paramedics, Police Officers. Ultimately, everyone had a role and responsibility.
WHAT IS THE CSI PROJECT?• Overall, this lesson caught the attention of
the Orange County Register which was great publicity for our Academy.
• It also kicked up a huge interest from students all across the campus, as well as staff members, school board members, and school district administrators who are not very familiar with what we do as an Academy.
PLANNING AND COLLABORATION
• Started the planning process in December.• Final day of lesson execution was June 3rd.
• Planning is important.
• Things to consider: STAR testing, AP testing, Spring Break, CAHSEE, end of the year senior activities and …cough… cough…illnesses.
PLANNING AND COLLABORATION
• Inter-disciplinary correlations.
• Knowing and respecting each other’s schedules and curriculum progression.
• Brainstorming the scenario and choosing guest speakers.
