description

Crescendus™ | Corporate Culture- Making It Less Nebulous Every company talks about its "Culture, Core Values" etc. While this may all sound formal and elaborate, most managers and employees struggle to make sense of it, and apply in their day-to-day interactions. Here, we show how to go about building & explaining your Culture to your company, so that nothing remains vague at the end of this exercise! This presentation will be relevant for: 1. All Companies (Startups, Small Businesses, Middle Market & Fortune 500) 2. CEOs, Executive Teams & Board of Directors

DO

Say things in an simple manner (just like you are having a 1:1 conversation) about your company's behavior & what is expected from its employees .

Provide Examples (for each expected behavior): This is how we want everyone to behave with: each other, with our customers & our partners.

DO NOT

Do not keep talking about words like CULTURE or CORPORATE CULTURE or CORE VALUES etc.

Most employees and managers do not relate or understand what it means!

Processes• Encourage employees to ask the question "WHY" & use it to eliminate bureaucracy

& increase nimbleness• Example - " Why are we doing this"? • Behavior Statement - We encourage and insist our employees to challenge status

quo issues.

• Eliminate the fear factor across all levels• Example - " The strength of the ideas rule, not the superiority of position"• Behavior Statement - We place more importance to the quality of ideas than on

the employee's relative ranking within the company.

Employees• Challenge employees to take accountability for their actions.• Example - "Do not pass the buck to others when you have the power to effect

change"• Behavior Statement - We expect all employees to be accountable for tasks that are

within their control (or ability to control).

• Challenge and demand all employees to maintain professional civility at all times.• Example - "Insist on employees to behave the same (professional) way, whether the

person is in front of you in a regular meeting or communicating via email"• Behavior Statement - We will not tolerate rude behavior across any communication

channel (& will use this as an important metric during performance evaluations).

Similar to the Company Processes & Employee Interaction Slides, we recommend companies to prepare detailed Behavior Statements for each of the following:

1. Customer Interactions2. Sales & Marketing 3. Engineering, R&D and Product Development4. Investor Relations5. Partner Interactions

etc.

Collectively, these statements will end up defining what is the expected behavior of/within the company!

Note: The CEO, Board & the Executive Team should take the lead on these efforts. Do not delegate it to your HR department.
