The Biography of Faith Ringgold

1. Hurry! Hurry! Grab your smartphones and your tablets! It’s time to learn about Faith Ringgold, our artist of the month!

2. Before we start scanning our class code, we need to find out how to use a QRC code. Below is a video link that shows you how to use your smartphone and tablet to access the QRC code correctly. https://www.bing.com/videos/search?q=tablet+and+smartphone+qr+code+for+kids&&view=detail&mid=50F95728633E627C4EBA50F95728633E627C4EBA&FORM=VRDGAR I would recommend using the QR Reader for IPhone by TapMedia Ltd. This is the app I use and it works perfectly every time.

3. Once you have watched the video and have the needed app, go ahead and scan the QRC code.

4. Now that you have scanned the QRC code, a screen should pop up. It should look something like this:

5. Click the red enter button.

6. You are now to a screen that looks like this:

7. Alright students, here is when your awesome listening skills and reading skills will be used. I will have specific tasks under each link that I mention that you will need to do. Pay close attention and read the directions twice.

8. Please click on the first red highlighted link titled, May I introduce myself? On a blank sheet of paper, write down using a red colored pencil, May I introduce myself?

9. You now see a short biography of Faith Ringgold. Please read and write 5 facts about her life. On a blank sheet of paper, write down using an orange colored pencil, May I introduce myself?

10. Click on the back arrow to get you back to the main screen with all the different links.

11. Now click on Where can you see my art? Please write down on the same blank piece of paper the title Where can you see my art? Write the titles in blue.

12. Now a screen that looks like this pops up:

13. Please two artworks from the Public Collection tab, two artworks from the Private Collection, and two works from the ACA Gallery. For each artwork you chose, write the title of the artwork and all the information listed on the lower left hand corner of the page. This information should include the title, year it was finished, what the painting is made of, how large it is, and where the painting is located. Then write a short paragraph that gives a brief description of what the artwork looks like. Do this for every artwork.

14. Please click the back arrow once to get you back to the main screen.

15. Click on the red link that is titled, Have You Read my Books and Seen My Videos? It should bring you to a page that looks like this:

16. Write down Have You Read My Books and Seen My Videos? in green.

17. Now go under the tab that is titled Books by Faith Ringgold. Select three books (it can NOT include Tar Beach. We have already discussed this book). Please write down the title, the publisher, the year it was published, and any awards the book has won. Then, in your own words, write a brief summary of what the book is about. Do this for all three books you select.

18. Once you are finished with all your summaries, click back to the main screen.

19. Now scroll down to the link that is called Story Time.

20. Below your summaries write down Story Time in purple. Once you have written the title, please click on the link.

21. Please write down the title of the story; How The People Became Color Blind; in all the colors of the rainbow. You might have to use some colors twice.

22. Read through the story and take note of what is happening in the story. Then once you are done reading, please write a summary of what the story is about. Include the main characters. Your summary should be a well written paragraph. This includes 7 to 8 sentences with no grammatical issues and proper indentation.

23. Underneath your summary, please write your own opinion of the story. Ask yourself these questions: Who were the main characters? How did the story make you feel? How does the story relate to you?

24. Once you have written your personal opinion, grab a clean sheet of un-lined paper and illustrate a scene from the story.

25. You have one more thing to do once you finish your illustration. Grab another clean sheet of un-lined paper. At the top of the paper please write the title of the assignment, your first and last name, and my name and the class. This will be the title page of your assignment. It is like the front cover of a book. It gives a visual description of what the book is about. For our assignment, you learned about Faith Ringgold, so your front cover can be anything that pertains to Faith Ringgold. It can be one of her artworks, her portrait, another illustration of the story you read, or your own adaptation of Faith Ringgold’s style of art. Please be creative as you would like.

26. Once you have finished all the assignment, please attach all your pages together. They should be in the correct order (title page, written summaries, and then your story time illustration). Please turn this into me once you are all finished. This assignment is long so I am giving you the whole entire month to work on it. If you have any questions please contact me.
