GASTRONOMY CULTURE

A STAR AT THE SUMMITIn summer, gastronomy provides the perfect showcase for our mountains, as a result of the delicate combination of traditional expertise and refined cuisine, as typified by Michelin-starred restaurant Le Farçon* and its chef Julien Machet, who seeks out local producers to source his raw ingredients.

FROM FARM TO FORKAt an altitude of 2,000 m, livestock farmer Bernard Chardon offers visitors the op-portunity to sample specialities made on site at his Ariondaz farm-inn, and to take part in cheese-making whilst enjoying uninterrupted views over Mont Blanc and La Grande Casse!

A SWEET AWAKENINGThe Les Chalets du Forum residence offers holidaymakers the chance to savour the “Fauchon Paris Breakfast”. At breakfast time, the Mont Charvin 3-star hotel lets organic local produce take pride of place.

NEWA new resort establishment, Le Farto (Courchevel Moriond) offers daily specials and deli platters, as well as local cheeses and wines. At the Forum (Courchevel 1850), Le Sky offers a menu of original mountain specialities and generous cuisine at reasonable prices. All in urban décor with stripped back colours, boasting beautiful panoramic views over the surrounding mountain summits.

PROFILE IDEAYoung proprietor of a restaurant-pizzeria in Courchevel Saint-Bon, Yann Charvin is also a honey producer. The Black Pearl chef uses ingredients from his own garden to make dishes: locally made honey, blueberry jam, rocket, dill, basil and apples from his orchard! He rests his pizza dough for 4 days to guarantee the best possible flavour. And when he can’t pick his own ingredients, Yann calls upon local producers to ensure low food miles. He even picks his own genepy flowers and medicinal plants to make digestifs.

THE SOUL OF A HAMLET30 years ago association Le Patrimoine was founded in the little hamlet of Villarnard. Its goal remains unchanged: to preserve the village’s heritage, and bear witness to its past, including its school, wash house, communal oven and chapel. Every summer, the hamlet brings its history, and that of the Savoie region, back to life. On the 27th and 28th of July, it will host a conference on «Savoie from 1948 to 1960...” a screening of “Savoie on the Path to France”… and of course, the village’s communal oven will be back in service to cook up a few loaves of bread, traditional Provençal onion tarts and legs of lamb!

NEWGuided walk “Au fil du Chemin”Why choose between hiking and theatre? With the new “Au fil du Chemin” promenade theatre experience, hikers can discover a different side to the mountains in the company of Marcel, a young shepherd who took a trip around France in the last century, carrying with him a book filled with stories and legends. A complete hiking experience, with sketches acted out along the way as well as exploration of local heritage, plantlife and wildlife!22nd and 23rd of July

Locally grown dishesONCE UPON A TIME…Fifteen regular events are programmed for July and August so that you can discover everything there is to know about Courchevel’s history. It’s the perfect opportunity to visit the ski Olympic jumping stadium in Courchevel Le Praz, go on a sensorial tour of St-Bon’s baroque church, dive into the history of the pioneering Savoyard ski resort, take a stroll through the valley’s little-visited hamlets or meet an Alpine livestock farmer.

LES 3 COUPS FESTIVAL - Courchevel La TaniaProfessional and amateur theatre troupes come together to tread the boards from the 8th to the 12th of July for 8 free shows as part of the Les 3 Coups amateur theatre festival’s 5th edition. And for those drawn to the limelight, Cours Sauton will be running a theatre course (6th to 13th of July).PYRO SYMPHONIE LIVE - 24th of July An open-air classical music event with a backdrop of fireworks, that’s the programme for Pyro Symphonie Live «Masters of Light», conducted by composer Jean-Philippe Vanbeselaere.
