It is always busy in the College Community, however the next few weeks will prove this furthermore. Next week, please be reminded that Wednesday 5th June is a Pupil Free Day which allows teachers to conclude assessments and commence report writing, therefore there will be no supervision for students. Monday night, you are all welcome to the next parents club meeting 7pm in the Junior campus office. It would be great to see new faces. School Uniform This week the Big Freeze beanies were put on sale until. This is a college initiative that is run by the student leadership team to raise money for MND. For parents knowledge, these beanies bought from the college form part of the school uniform, therefore students are permitted to wear them at school, when outside. Whilst on the notion of school uniform, please ensure your children are in the correct school uniform. Please view the school uniform below: Normal Uniform A plain navy broad-brimmed or bucket hat with college logo or the navy Bogong Outdoor Education bucket hat, for wearing outside during terms 1 and 4 (college hat available from the College office) A navy, black, grey or the Big Freeze beanie for wearing outside during terms 2 and 3. Navy polo shirt with white trim (available from the College office) Grey or navy trousers or navy microfiber tracksuit pants (fleece, jeans, jeggings or leggings are not permitted) Grey or navy shorts mid-thigh length (football or jogging shorts are not permitted) Corryong College blue tartan skirt with navy stockings for winter Corryong College blue tartan dress Corryong College polar fleece jacket, VCE Rugby Top, or Corryong College puffer jacket/vest White, navy or black socks in keeping with the uniform Navy stockings/tights under dresses and skirts only Black or coloured enclosed shoes/runners. A school canteen is provided on senior campus and lunch orders are available for all students. We have a duty of care to all children and therefore do not support students heading into town as this creates great difficulty in supervising your child. In the situation that students do have to go to an appointment during school hours, they require written permission from their parent/carer, as well as having this signed off by either their Year Level Leader, the Assistant Principal or Principal. They are then required to sign out and back in, at the front office (primary students are only permitted if the parent/carer signs them out in person). Year 12 students are the only students permitted to leave school grounds during their study periods, recess or lunch without written permission or without being collected by their parent/carer. However, they too, are required to sign out, and in, also from the front office no longer the VCE room. In cases, where students have their license, students are NOT permitted to drive other students (this includes to, from or during school hours. However, they are allowed to drive immediate family members only. Please support these with your children, so we can ensure sound supervision and care. Please be reminded that we have a front office and all calls should be directed through the front office of which we are happy to pass on messages to students. Last Thursday at lunchtime Penelope and Jason from the Defence Force came to
Corryong to talk to the students about the careers offered through the Army, Navy and
Air Force. They were also discussing the many opportunities that were available once
you were employed by the Defence Force.

Careers Week
Last week in the classrooms we talked
about careers. Delany Dryden from
our Year 3 class wrote a great article
on becoming a famous author. We had
some special guests come into all
classrooms to talk about their careers.
A big thankyou goes to Riccarda,
Shae, Cath, Brendan, Rebecca, Lauren
& Kelly for the inspirational talks.
Last week our Foundation students returned to the
kindergarten for a catch up and a story.
How egg-citing! This week Miss Leitch ‘s grade 2 students placed 17 eggs into an incubator in the hope to hatch chickens. Six of the eggs are Silkie
Chicken eggs and eleven are Isa Brown eggs.
Chickens take 21 days to hatch with the incubator set at 37.5—38 degrees Celsius (unless you have a clucky chook ready to nest.)
Over the next three weeks the students will be watching a daily video extract showing the days growth inside the egg. After seven days
we will shine a light behind the egg to see if there is a chicken growing inside. If there is we will be creating makeshift cosy houses for
the chickens out of recycled items in preparation for their arrival.
The success rate is not always great, but if at first we don’t succeed we will try again, just like when we are learning to do anything new.
The children will learn first hand the meaning of “don’t count your chickens before they hatch”. Miss Leitch will be adopting 4 Isa
Brown eggs at the end of the project and we might have a few chicks looking for a home at the end of the project or we might put them
in the Stephanie Alexander kitchen garden chook pen. The students this week have been studying “chance and data” in maths and it will
be interesting to see what our success rate / ratio will be.
This weeks growth inside the eggs hopefully looks like the pictures below.
A big thank you to Chloe Janic who lent us the incubator and donated the Isa Brown eggs from her Grandmas farm. We hope to give
back a few Silkie chickens as a thankyou in return. Thanks also to Vicki Kane for sharing her knowledge of chicken raising. If anyone
knows of anyone who has fertile chicken eggs please contact Chrissie McKimmie as we would love to set another batch in the
incubator next week.

Cadets 37 ACU Albury/Wodonga unit are having a Bring-A-Friend night- 13th June 2019 followed by a Recruitment Night - 20th June 2019.
This is for all students who are interested, both Male and female.
We have a number of students who already attend Cadets and a bus picks the cadets up from Corryong College after school every Thurs-day at 3.20pm and returns to Corryong by 10.30pm. This is an excellent opportunity for anyone who is interested in the Defense force or just wishes to learn new skills.

VCAL Personal Development would like to invite you to ‘Winter Solstice Movie Night’ at the Regent Cinema Albury on Thursday the 13th of June at 7pm. Tickets are $15, available for purchase at Wodonga Senior Secondary College, Felltimber and

Help shine a light on the darkest night.
The Winter Solstice is an amazing community initiative that was started by Annette and Stuart Baker after the loss of their daugh-ter Mary to suicide. Survivors of Suicide and Friends is an or-ganisation which aims to bring the subject of suicide and mental health illness into the public forum to be addressed without shame or stigma.
Students from VCAL Personal Development are running the ‘Winter Solstice Movie Night’ as a way to engage youth in the conversation about suicide, mental health and wellbeing. To raise awareness. To prevent death by suicide.
Murray United Football Club are the ambassadors for the even-ing.
The reason Murray United are the ambassadors is because young Australian men are more likely to take their own life than die in a motor vehicle accident. There are over 3000 deaths by suicide annually, more than eight people per day. Beyond Blue reports that six of the eight are men…… the numbers are sad, astonish-ing and increasing. However suicide does not discriminate, 85% of Australians know someone who has died by suicide. Lets shine a light on the darkest night.
