Dear Parents/Guardians,
It is hard to believe that there remains only one week left of this school year. Whilst the year wraps up, work will still commence over the school break where teachers work on their newly given timetables and learning programs and new teachers settle into the area. A project of which has been both exciting and stressful; the new F-4 Building Project will continue to play out as I meet with the architect, project managers and builders to ensure a smooth start. The revised date will be released as further information is available, however this is currently standing as early February. It will be exciting to see the commencement of this construction. I thank all staff for the many surprise meetings I have put them through, particularly the primary staff, as well as the School Council, Parents Club members, parents and community members that have been present in the arduous task of navigating through budget issues and refining the integrity of what will be an absolutely beautiful building. This building will comprise of 4 large classrooms with an open library space in between, new furniture throughout, classroom technology and a phenomenal muli-purpose space that opens up to the basketball court. This space has the versatility to be utilised in many ways and will cater for all learning situations and events. Exciting times lay ahead! There have been questions around yard for our F-4s of which has provoked some great conversations and ideas. Thanks for the parents and School Council that joined us in walking out and loosely pegging the site. This was a great activity. We did discuss the notions of play space and whilst the F-4s will have their own areas, it is important to note that the college will have to put in place staggered recess/lunch times to ensure all students have access to our large ovals for running and burning off that energy. Greater discussions will continue as progress of the building commences.
Teaching and Learning Across the School—Transition, Headstart and beyond. This years transition program has been a great success. From 2019 foundation students attending weekly to smoothly transition into “big school”. There has been nothing but great smiles, laughter and play as our new little tots made themselves at home in their new learning environment. The 2019 Year 7 students from feeding schools, had a high number of transition days also to allow them to create connections with teachers and their peers. This year has seen an increased number of days for transition, ensuring this process is supportive and comfortable for all.
In the junior campus also, they demonstrated their skills in performance at their concert. The Grandparents and Friends Day was a hit. Thank you to the primary staff for their great work and thank you to our lovely visitors. Whilst the younger ones were in transition, the older students had their headstart program to engage in their 2019 electives. This is a great opportunity for our children to experience their electives and get exactly that, a ‘headstart’ in their learning programs. Whilst this was a couple of weeks ago, it is important to note that success of this program. Pictured above is the Year 11 Biology Headstart program where students prepared different specimens to view under the microscope. The students were really happy to show me through the process of investigating skin, banana and onion cells, pond weed and pond organisms. Meanwhile the art students have been creating their Banksy inspired artworks as they create their own graffiti city replica. Thank you to all the great staff that put such effort in this great program.
Next week, will see our presentation evening commencing at 7:00pm, Tuesday 18th December in the ECA Centre. This will see the award ceremony, the announcement of DUX, the display of student work and the receipt of student reports. Looking forward to seeing you all there.

We were given the opportunity to take part in a week long program consisting of the skills needed for mechanical work and boat building, such as car services, stripping down and learning about engines. We also learned about the fundamentals of building a wooden speedboat. Throughout the week, an array of kids from Tumbarumba joined us and were successful in the rebuild of Clancy’s Suzuki four-wheel drive, the revival of a lawn mower that was destined for the tip and laying the foundations of a wooden speed boat. We even stripped down a V6 engine and made a stand for it.
Peter Jenkins was a great mentor, explaining and demonstrating all procedures in a clear, concise and understandable manner. Pete certainly knows what he is talking about after working for a Formula Three racing team. He knows his way around an engine like the back of his hand. We thoroughly enjoyed working with him and being inspired by him and would highly recommend that if the opportunity arose to join him again in the coming years, you should take this experience on board as it was unforgettable.
