Our school acknowledges parents as the primary educators of their children, and aims to further develop each child intellectually, emotionally, physically, socially and spiritually, creating lifelong learners who have the ability to draw upon processes and skills, to cope with future technologies in a changing society. Our school strives to be accepting of multicultural and individual differences. It acknowledges the rights of children to be safe and values them through pastoral care. Dear Parents and Guardians, It has been a very busy week at St Patrick’s, with our fantastic Fun Run yesterday and our incursions this week. All of these are opportunities for learning. We watched yesterday as so many students did not stop running. They knew the value of their sponsorship and how important it is to keep going and not give up. It was tremendous to see how far many of the students ran. Tomorrow, our choir will visit the residents of Kerry Lodge. Our incursions and visits to Kerry Lodge teach our children valuable lessons and messages. When we are generous with our skills and talents, we make a difference in other people’s lives. In bringing a smile to the many people at Kerry Lodge we are sharing a gift of ourselves with our community. On Friday our Faction Cross Country will be a culmination of the many hours of training put in by our students and staff. Our Fun Run was a warm up, to build stamina and learning not to give up. I wish all our Factions, good luck for our carnival on Friday, and hope we are blessed with some great weather. Thank you to our Parents and Friends Association for their support of the Fun Run. It was a great day and extremely enjoyable. It was great to see parents come along and give support to all the runners. Please take the time to thank all of the sponsors of your child and pass on our good wishes on behalf of the school. The sponsorship and support from the school community has been tremendous. Today we celebrated the feast of Mary, Help of Christians, who is the patroness of Australia. The infant church in Australia had a special reason for turning to Mary. No priests were sent to the colony in its early days and Mass was not allowed except for one brief year until Activity Club Week 3 Bingo!

1820. It was largely the Rosary in those early days that kept the faith alive. The Australian Catholic community remained faithful to Mary and Australia was the first nation to choose her under the title, 'Mary Help of Christians' as principal Patroness. Australia also became the first country to have a cathedral dedicated in Our Lady, Mary's name. St Mary's Cathedral in Sydney was dedicated in her honour by the Irish pioneer priest, Fr John Therry who arrived in Sydney in 1820. Peace to you and your family, Christopher Smith Principal

Our St Patricks Family We give thanks for our families in St Patrick’s and the wonderful work that our parents and guardians do to support our school. At times families go through much hardship (often very quietly), please keep the Prosser Family in your prayers. We pray for Jonathon to make a speedy recovery while he is in hospital. Please keep all our families in your prayers, as we well know the power and strength that prayer provides at different times in our lives

Principal’s Review 2017:

This year Mr Smith will be reviewed. The review will take place in Term Three and will run over three days. A range of St Patrick’s staff as well as School Board and P & F executive will have the opportunity to provide data, via a questionnaire, regarding his role and responsibilities as School Principal. These ‘data sources” will then undergo interviews by the visiting panel in Term Three. This process is standard practice for all Principals in the Catholic system.

Fun Run:

What a fantastic effort from all the students, parents and staff. The students looked so colourful and ran like champions. The course was not easy, however, it was evident that each and every child did their best. Thanks P & F for your support, to the staff for getting behind this great initiative to raise funds for the future Nature Playground and to our super stars who ran their hearts out!! It was wonderful to see so many parents cheering on their children. All in all, a great day and a wonderful event. THANK YOU ALL!!

Our Lady Help of Christians Whole School Mass:

Thank you to all those who attended Mass this morning to honour Our Lady Help of Christians. As patron of Australia, her solemnity is an opportunity to pray for peace, love, harmony in this great land we call home. To all those who read, altar served, helped with the offertory and the Eucharistic Ministers a big thank you. To Mary, our faithful parishioner, who generously prepares the church for Masses. Finally Father Francis, who goes above and beyond to ensure the students have the opportunity to explore Gospel messages with his wonderful homilies. GOD BLESS YOU.

Wake Up & Read!! The children were treated to a wonderful live performance today. “Wake up and Read” was an entertaining and fun filled play that promoted the positive message of the importance of reading. The students are to be commended on their excellent audience manners.

Koo Koo Kookaburra- Town Hall On Monday the 29th May, the whole school will attend the performance of “ Koo Koo Kookaburra”. This performance is being held at the Town Hall at 11:30 am. The students will get to enjoy live theatre in a beautiful theatre setting. The teachers will be sharing the story with their classes prior to the show and it provides a springboard into further Literacy activities. A note will be sent home THURSDAY as permission is required for the students to walk to the Town Hall. It is so important that students get to see live performance in this world of screens and to have the opportunity to visit a theatre to view a performance makes it all the more special.

2018 Enrolments are now open!

St Patrick’s School is now calling for enrolments for Kindergarten and Pre Primary to Year 6 in 2018. Interested parents should contact the school for enrolment forms. Closing date for applications is Friday 23rd June 2017. Kindergarten forms part of St Patrick’s School, and as a Catholic school, will support the development of the individual, through providing many varied play and learning opportunities, including the Religious Education programme. The Kindergarten programme will challenge and enrich a child’s thinking, nurture their creativity and expand their view of their own physical world. The Kindergarten operates from a purpose built early childhood centre, with excellent facilities and equipment. An Early Childhood trained Teacher, together with a Teacher’s Assistant, implements the Kindergarten Programme. A specialised programme operates in Oral Language and Fundamental Movement skills. All children who are born between 1 July 2013 to 30 June 2014 are eligible to be enrolled.

ST PATRICK’S CHURCH

Celebrate Mass with Fr Francis Constantino Sunday 28th May 10.30am Altar Servers: Domenic, Jack & Piper Kennedy

I am with you always

THE WORD The eleven disciples went to the hill in Galilee to meet Jesus. He said, “I have been given all authority on heaven and on earth. Go then, to all peoples everywhere and make them my disciples: Baptise them in the name of the Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit. And I will be with you always, to the end of the age.”

LOOK CLOSER Go make disciples. Jesus gave his followers an important last message: GO! Make disciples! A lot of people think that this call to mission is only for religious brothers, sisters and priests. But Jesus calls us all to be missionaries. He wants all of his followers to share his message of love with others.

Lord Jesus, give us the courage

to go out into the world and share your love with everyone we meet. Amen

LEAD - Defining our Strategic Direction

Learning: In Italian this term, the Pre Primary children are learning their numbers to 10 by singing songs, counting and playing number games. The Yr5s and Yr6s are practising their numbers to 100 by counting by tens at the beginning of each lesson and playing bingo. The Yr3s and Yr4s are also practising numbers to 100 and are hoping to be able to play bingo by the end of the term. These are the numbers by ten to one hundred if you wish to practise with your children: Dieci, venti, trenta, quaranta, cinquanta, sessanta, settanta, ottanta, novanta, cento. Mrs Quartermaine.

Engagement: During ICT this term our focus has shifted towards computer programming. During our lessons students have gained an insight into the basics of coding. In year 1 and 2 students have programmed a Bee-Bot to move forwards and backwards, as well as turn left and right. Students in years 3 and 4 have experimented with the line following Ozobot - creating maps for the robot to move around. The 5 and 6s have also created some amazing algorithms for their Micro: bit – a pocket sized computer with 25 LED lights. It has been amazing to see the students so engaged in these lessons as they use their problem solving skills to find solutions to different programs. Miss Ackland. Accountability: What is accountability? Accountability means we are answerable to others, and we should accept this responsibility as a gift from God. Not only does it provide a system of checks and balances that protects us from harm, but it also gives us unique opportunities to share our lives with others and encourage them. Mrs Robinson.

Discipleship: With the Rosary being prayed on Mondays in the school for the month of May, we have been looking at rosary beads in Kindy and focusing on Mary, the mother of Jesus. The students have engaged in conversation about her kindness and the great love she had for her son. The class will be attending tomorrow’s whole school Mass focusing on “Our Lady Help of Christians” which integrates all we have learnt in Kindy this month. I hope you can join us. Mrs Willey.
