Local Artist Donates Painting to Historical ParkSTILLWATER/SCHUYLERVILLE – Local folk artist, Richard Salls, of Schuylerville, has do-nated the original oil painting, entitled “225”, to Saratoga National Park in Stillwater. “225” was originally unveiled in 2002 to commemorate the 225th anniversary year of the Battles of Sarato-ga and the 125th year of the Saratoga Monument. The original painting will be on display at the park’s visitor center through September. Prints of the painting are available in the Park’s gift store, which features books, glassware, souvenirs, and other qual-ity items about the Battles of Saratoga and the Revolutionary War. Further information about the artist is available at www.saratogafolkart.com. PRAYER TO THE BLESSED VIRGIN (Never known to fail)Oh, most beautiful flower of Mt. Carmel, fruitful vine splendor of Heaven. Blessed Mother of the Son of God. Immaculate Virgin, assist me in my necessity. Oh, Star of the Sea, help me and show me, herein you are my mother. Oh, Holy Mary, Mother of God, Queen of Heaven and Earth! I humbly beseech you from the bottom of my heart to answer me in this necessity. There are none that can withstand your power. Oh, show me herein you are my mother. Oh, Mary con- ceived without sin, pray for us who have recourse to thee (3x). Holy Mother, I place this cause in your hands (3x). Sweet Mother, I place this cause in your hands (3x). Holy Spirit, you who solve all problems, light all roads so that I can attain my goal, you who gave me the divine gift to forgive and forget all evil against me and that in all instances in my life you are with me. I want in this short prayer to thank you for all things as you confirm once again that I never want to be separated from you in eternal glory. Thank you for your mercy towards me and mine. The person must say this prayer 3 consecutive days, after 3 days the request will be granted. This prayer must be published after the favor is granted. Thank you for favor received. J.J.

Backpacks of HopeCLIFTON PARK – Members of The Chamber of Southern Saratoga County’s Women In Business Committee are reaching out to the community for help with their charitable initiative, Backpacks of Hope, which supports mothers and their children utilizing the services of Domestic Violence and Rape Crisis Services of Saratoga County (DVRC). Backpacks of Hope is part of the Committee’s Baskets of Hope initiative, which has been providing women entering the Saratoga County Domestic Violence Shelter with beautifully arranged baskets of personal care items. The backpacks meet the needs of the children who are also affected by domestic violence. The Women in Busi-ness Committee seeks donations of back-to-school supplies such as backpacks, notebooks, pens, pencils, crayons, markers, glue sticks, etc. Donations of personal care items such as soap, shampoo, toothpaste and other toiletries are also welcomed year round. Anyone who wishes to participate in this worthy program can do so by bringing donations to The Chamber of Southern Saratoga County, located at 15 Park Avenue in Clif-ton Park (behind Shoppers World Plaza). T.C.

Prescribed Fire Program STILLWATER – With favorable weather conditions in place, certified wild land firefighters at Saratoga National Historical Park, will undertake prescribed burning of approximately 40 acres of park land during the last two weeks of August. This “summer burn” will include the Chatfield Farm area of the Battlefield. The burns may take up to three days to complete, and the park will remain open to visitors during this time. The park has historically conducted prescribed burns in the Spring. This shift from spring to summer burning is an experimental approach to see if the application of fire at a different time will yield better results in the management of the types of plants found in the fields. It is hoped the summer burn will result in greater success in ridding the park of unwanted invasive and woody stemmed plants. If you have any questions about pre-scribed fires at Saratoga National Historical Park or park events, please contact the park’s visitor center at (518) 664-9821 x1777. (A)

Debunking Popular Automotive MythsCertain myths about automobiles have been around as long as there have been cars on the road. Many drivers adhere to driv-ing and repair theories out of sheer force of habit, without ever knowing if these strategies are legitimate. Here are some com-mon myths revealed and debunked.
* High-octane gas improves performance in all vehicles. Most cars will not get any added benefits from the use of high octane fuel, which is designed for higher-performance engines that burn hotter than those of most vehicles. Drivers will only waste their money putting in more expensive gas. Always use the fuel recommended in the owner’s manual.
* Longer cars are more stable. Many believe the longer the wheelbase the more stable the car will be. But wheelbase is only one of the factors that determines a vehicle’s stability and reaction time.
* Four-wheel-drive vehicles are invincible in poor weather. Four-wheel-drive capabilities may improve traction and han-dling when driving off-road or when the road conditions are not ideal. But no car is invincible when it comes to driving on snow and ice..
* Side mirrors are properly adjusted when you can see the side of the car in them. Actually, the mirrors should be adjusted so you can’t see the sides of the car. The mirrors work in concert to allow a panoramic view around the car. This eliminates the need to turn your head to check blind spots, which takes your
eyes off the road.
* Automatic braking system (ABS) was designed to shorten stopping distances. ABS was created to give drivers the ability to steer around obstacles while braking instead of spinning out of control.
* Engine oil should be changed every 3,000 miles. There’s no need to change engine oil that frequently, as motor oils today are much more durable and protect engines for longer distanc-es. Unleaded fuels and clean-burning engines typically require oil changes every 7,000 to 10,000 miles, but consult your own-er’s manual.
* There is a 72-hour “cooling off period” offered on automotive sales in the U.S. There is no such provision for auto purchases, as there is for many consumer products and even home sale contracts. Once you buy a car, you’re stuck with it, no matter how quickly you begin to experience buyer’s remorse.
Myths prevail in daily life and in the automotive realm as well. Know the facts to avoid losing money or being unsafe on the road.

Albany, NY (July 31, 2012) –Do you have a love for animals and want to support a great local cause? Join with the Gold-stein Auto Group and bring your empty bottles and cans to a Goldstein dealership and support the Mohawk Hudson Humane Society. The Mohawk Hudson Humane Society’s “Empties For Animals” campaign helps support the mission of the organization, includ-ing sheltering, adoption, education, advocacy and the preven-tion of cruelty to animals. This year’s goal is to raise $125,000, in honor of the Society’s 125th Anniversary. To reach the goal, the Goldstein Auto Group will need to collect more than 1,500,000 cans and bottles. The 2012 "Empties For Animals” campaign has raised over $46,000 during the first half of this year, an increase of $12,000 or 34% over the same period last year. The 2011 campaign raised a total

of more than $74,000 and collected 925,000 cans and bottles. Volunteers sorted all those bottles and cans, based on the originating distributor, which in turn generated $.08 per can or bottle instead of the regular $.05 redemption fee paid at stores. Monies from the program were used to benefit the more than 6,500 animals cared for by the Society in 2011. “We are very pleased to continue our partnership with the Mohawk Hudson Humane Society and support the 2012 “Empties For Animals” campaign. We would like to thank all of our custom-ers and the members of the community who have generously donated to such a worthy cause,” said Alan Goldstein, President of Goldstein Auto Group.
