(Remember, you can always purchase dihydrogen monoxide in its own containment container in the Professor’s little gift shop.)

Food Science: Ice CreamFriday, July 16We scream for ice cream because we love it...now we’ll figure out the science behind it as we discover how ice and salt manage to help make such a delicious concoction...and then we’ll get to eat it!

Crazy ChemistryFriday, July 23We’ll try not to blow up the Workshop as we learn a little Chemistry 101...be prepared for some funny surprises and don’t forget to wear your lab coat!

Pennypickle’s Pajamarama Family Camp-OutFriday, July 30 Grab your family, get out your tent, and join us for the Professor’s first all-night camp-out! Camping spots will be in the parking lot, and the Workshop will be open for campers to watch movies, make s’mores, eat popcorn, and have a great time. Go to www.pennypickles.org to make a reservation.

Hot Summer KnightsFriday, August 6Have a fun “knight” learning about castles, catapults, armor, and everything medieval. Bring your shield if you think you’ll need it.

Beaker’s Little BirthdaySunday, August 8Professor Pennypickle had a huge birthday bash - but Beaker is more comfortable with just a miniature party - and that means LITTLE! Help celebrate in Beaker’s mini style with lots of teeny tiny fun and surprises.

Color ScienceFriday, August 13Plan to invent your own personal who-knows-what-design as we move some molecules around with color-exploding science that’s not even messy. (Too bad. The Professor likes messy. But he’s excited about this technique, too!)

Toying with TrajectoriesFriday, August 20Wow...a chance to launch projectiles! The Professor and Beaker can’t wait. Catapults and trebuchets are some of their favorite things.

Science of Self-DefenseFriday, August 27Parents, if you have concerns about how your child would react if their well-being was threatened, this is an evening you won’t want to miss. Basic self-defense moves and tactics will be demonstrated in a comfortable, non-frightening manner. Space is limited, so go to www.pennypickles.org to register.

Beaker’s End of Summer PartyFriday, September 3What’s better than a party and playing in the Professor’s Workshop! Join Beaker and the Professor’s assistants to celebrate a very merry un-Summer.

Science - It’s a Girls’ ThingFriday, September 10It’s a girls’ night and the fun has begun! Concoct some secret formulas and experiment with stuff that smells really good. Hopefully chocolate is involved!

Phineas’ Invention Series: Bug BuildingFriday, September 17Get some hands-on inventing going on as we build some bug bots! You’ll have to purchase a kit (it’s only $4), but you’ll get to take your own little moveable bug home so you can race it and show it off to all your friends. (Plus you can say YOU made it!)

Science Adventures: Illusions and Magic TricksFriday, September 24Is it science or is it magic? They have a lot in common - both produce wonderful effects that leave us bewildered. Learn some tricks tonight as you explore the magic behind some of the Professor’s favorite illusions.

October: Museum Gone Mad!

Icky ScienceFriday, October 1Oh yeah - the chance to turn simple ingredients into icky, sticky messes! What’s not to love? Hopefully we can add just a touch of atomic glow to make things even ickier...yay!Mad Monster Robot Contest PartyFriday, October 15Ok, so you built the Frankenstein robot and entered it in Pennypickle’s Mad Monster Robot Contest. Tonight you and your family can see if you’ve won! Or if you didn’t enter a robot (why not? It’s free and you can win great prizes!), you can check out everyone else’s creations. Either way, party tonight at Pennypickle’s Workshop!Pennypickle’s Daffy Dress RehearsalFriday, October 22 The Professor loves Halloween because he loves disguises. Your little ones can get in the spirit a little early this year to show off at this wacky “dress rehearsal” night! Every child wearing a costume will receive a token for Pennypickle’s Crypto-Matic Machine, and there will be “Best Disguise” and “Most Pennypicklish Costume” certificates to celebrate the occasion. Haunted MuseumFriday, October 29 - Sunday, October 31Fright and terror will abound when Pennypickle’s Workshop converts into the Haunted Museum on the evenings of October 29-31. This creepy experience is guaranteed to leave you screaming for more. The Haunted Museum is recommended for teens and older.

Pennypickle’s Adventurous Eater’s ClubFriday, November 5Well, there won’t be anything as exotic as goat kidneys or earthworms, but tonight you may get to try something you’ve never eaten before! Try tastings of foods that are not normally included in kid’s meals (don’t be afraid - there will be nothing you can’t find at your local supermarket!) and earn Phineas’ Adventure Club patch.

Science of Harry PotterFriday, November 12A very special experience awaits as the Professor’s Workshop presents an enchanting night for both muggles and wizards. Focusing on science rather than magic, your child will participate in engaging hands-on experiments and activities that will enthrall anyone who has ever desired to attend the famous Hogwarts Academy. This event is for kids ages 5-12 only (no parents!) and will be limited to the first 50 enrollees.

Food Science: Graham Cracker ArchitectureFriday, November 19What can YOU build out of simple graham crackers...a skyscraper? A ship? A bridge? It’ll be fun to see how well your design will hold up using frosting as glue. (No eating your building, though. Well...maybe!)

Science of SantaFriday, November 26Old Town Temecula celebrates the arrival of Santa tonight and the Professor thinks it will be fun if WE explore the science of the jolly old man and his international operations. (If anyone understands time travel, it’s Professor Pennypickle!)

Museum Exhibitions

Pun Intended: The Appliqued Witof Dorothy VanceJune 12 - August 1, 2010“Pun Intended: The Appliqued Wit of Dorothy Vance,” features 14 humorous quilts juxtaposing folk art, politics and pop culture. Dorothy Vance engaged in various sorts of arts and crafts including pottery, tile making, bread making, writing and graphic design before becoming best known for her unique, clever and charming folk art quilts. She continued to create new works until her death in February of 2007 at the age of 77. This exhibit showcases the work and the vision of this imaginative and artistic personality. She combines her clever wit with her sewing skills in such quilts as the award-winning “Presidents”; the limerick-filled quilt “There Was An Old Man”; and “Odd Couples,” a humorous pairing of icons from history and popular culture who share the same last name, such as Nat and Lana Turner, Karl and Harpo Marx, and James and Marilyn Monroe.

Vail Ranch ConservationThe Temecula Valley Museum is undertaking an extensive conservation effort to protect maps, documents and photographs recently donated to the Museum by Whitney Wilkinson. There are over 2,000 documents and photographs in this significant collection accumulated by the original owners of the Vail Ranch. The Ranch extended for 87,000 acres from the Santa Rosa Plateau to Highway 79 south. The importance of this collection is reflected in the source and dates of the items. Many items date from the mid-1800’s and are unique and provide rare primary research opportunities. Vail Ranch was the dominant economic entity from its founding in 1905 to its sale in 1964. Temecula’s history is intertwined in these documents.

High Country MagazineThe High Country magazine is a museum publication with southwest California and local history articles and photographs written by local long-time residents and historians. CSD Maintenance DivisionThe Maintenance Services Division is committed to ensuring an aesthetically pleasing and healthy city by providing safe, clean public areas. The Maintenance Services Program provides effective landscape and facility maintenance services to parks, slopes, medians, recreation facilities, and City administration offices. TCSD Maintenance Division also oversees the repair and maintenance of arterial and neighborhood streetlights. If you have a streetlight out in your neighborhood, you may call the Community Services Department at 694-6480.

Holiday Schedule Trash Pick-UpOn holidays your trash collection will be delayed by one day. If your normal trash day is Monday, your trash will be collected on Tuesday, etc.. If your normal trash day is Friday, your trash will be collected on Saturday. Holidays will also affect the street sweeping schedule. Holidays are New Year’s Day, Memorial Day, 4th of July, Labor Day, Thanksgiving and Christmas.

Bulky Item Pick-UpReminder! City of Temecula residents are allowed two FREE bulky item pick-ups, including e-waste, annually. Please call CR&R at (800) 755-8112 and make arrangements in advance for the pick-up of these items.

Street SweepingPlease be a good neighbor and remember not to park on residential streets on trash pick-up day and street sweeping day. Residential streets are swept the day after trash pick-up day. Keeping vehicles off the streets on these days allows efficient trash collection and street sweeping. Observing this simple request helps keep all of Temecula’s neighborhoods looking their best!

Storm DrainsThe City of Temecula would like to remind residents of the City’s storm water and pollution prevention requirements. When it rains, water flows from our streets and into our creeks. Our creeks receive untreated urban runoff from storm drains located throughout the city. Flows from each creek then drain into the Santa Margarita River, which ultimately discharges into the Pacific Ocean. The City of Temecula is committed to improving water quality by implementing programs that systematically reduce and eliminate pollutants from urban runoff before reaching our local creeks. Please join us in this commitment by considering some simple pollution prevention measures:

Use dry methods (raking, vacuuming, sweeping) for outdoor cleaning • activities.

Use rags or powdered absorbents to clean up spills.•Dispose of pet waste, landscape debris, and trash in trash bins, not in the •gutter. Use a mop instead of a hose to clean areas when water is needed.•Set irrigation timers to prevent over-watering. This type of runoff carries •fertilizers, pesticides, herbicides, and sediment into our local creeks and harms their ecosystems.Do not hose down driveways, sidewalks, or gutters.•

Other than rain water, it is illegal to send pollutants into our streets, gutters, storm drains, or any waterway. If you see an illegal discharge, please report it by calling us at 951-694-6411. To obtain additional information about the City’s water quality program and requirements, please visit our website.

“It’s YOUR City ...Help Us Keep it CLEAN & Green!”
