Dear Parishioners, All Saints feast falls on a Friday, November 1st. On Saturday, November 2nd is the commemoration of all the faithful departed—All Souls Day. Our Parish will celebrate a mass on that day at 8:00 a.m. instead of a Communion Service for all who have died in our community especially during this year 2019. All are invited to participate in this celebration. It is also a way to remember how they lived faithful lives here on earth. They trusted the Lord. We have a chance to offer our intercession for them, one prayer combining to assist them in any final cleans-ing of sins. Someday, God willing, others will do the same for us. In Christ, Mario L. Borges Pastor

LAUDATO SI’ OF THE HOLY FATHER FRANCIS

ON CARE FOR OUR COMMON HOME

POLLUTION AND CLIMATE CHANGE

#23. The climate is a common good, belonging to all and meant for all. At the global level, it is a complex sys-tem linked to many of the essential conditions for human life. A very solid scientific consensus indicates that we are presently witnessing a disturbing warming of the cli-matic system. In recent decades this warming has been accompanied by a constant rise in the sea level and, it would appear, by an increase of extreme weather events, even if a scientifically determinable cause cannot be as-signed to each particular phenomenon. Humanity is called to recognize the need for changes of lifestyle, production and consumption, in order to combat this warming or at least the human causes which produce or aggravate it. It is true that there are other factors (such as volcanic activi-ty, variations in the earth’s orbit and axis, the solar cycle), yet a number of scientific studies indicate that most glob-al warming in recent decades is due to the great concen-tration of greenhouse gases (carbon dioxide, methane, nitrogen oxides and others) released mainly as a result of human activity. As these gases build up in the atmos-phere, they hamper the escape of heat produced by sun-light at the earth’s surface. The problem is aggravated by a model of development based on the intensive use of fossil fuels, which is at the heart of the worldwide energy system. Another determining factor has been an increase in changed uses of the soil, principally deforestation for agricultural purposes. Fr. Terry’s Remarks:

We all breathe the same air. We all drink the same water. We all walk, sit, run, drive, sleep or work on the same earth. As the saying goes; ''We sink or swim together.'' In the present crises of climatic change it is safe to de-clare; ''Never in human history was our divisions or our fondness for our own ideas more treacherous to our own and our beloved ones well being than in the present time.'' If you or I have a dispute over something, we always believe that we are basing our debate on logic or facts. At this time while agreeing that part of our cli-mate change is due in part to causes from nature itself. Nearly all good scientific studies indicate that; ''most global warming in recent decades is due to the great con-centration of greenhouse gases released as a result of human activity.'' 'Lord, I do believe, help my unbelief.''
