THE EPHIPHANY OF OUR LORD We call this Sunday, “Epiphany” because that’s what the three wise men had: an epiphany, a moment of realizing the truth about God. In those moments these three men-kings that they were-”prostrated themselves and did hom-age” to the King of Kings. Then they went home by a dif-ferent route, undoubtedly as different men. We are invited to encounter the little Lord Jesus and offer ourselves to his gentle and loving guidance. Epiphany Doorpost Blessing There is a rich Epiphany Tradition still observed. The head of the family makes the following marking over the main door of the home. 20+C+M+B-18. The initials designate the names of the three wise men. Casper, Melchior , Balthazar. The numbers designate the year . As the inscription is being made, the following prayer is said: “May all who come to our home this year rejoice to find Christ living among us and may we seek and serve in eve-ryone we meet. Jesus who is Lord forever and ever.Amen The chalk & incense will be blest and you are free to take it home & write the sign on your front door.,
