Unison Scriptures

7:30 a.m. and 6:00 p.m.

MALAChi 3:6-12 (niV)6“I the Lord do not change. So you, the descendants of Jacob, are not destroyed. 7Ever since the time of your ancestors you have turned away from my decrees and have not kept them. Return to me, and I will return to you,” says the Lord Almighty. “But you ask, ‘How are we to return?’ 8“Will a mere mortal rob God? Yet you rob me. “But you ask, ‘How are we robbing you?’ “In tithes and offerings. 9You are under a curse—your whole nation—because you are robbing me. 10Bring the whole tithe into the storehouse, that there may be food in my house. Test me in this,” says the Lord Almighty, “and see if I will not throw open the floodgates of heaven and pour out so much blessing that there will not be room enough to store it. 11I will prevent pests from devouring your crops, and the vines in your fields will not drop their fruit before it is ripe,” says the Lord Almighty. 12“Then all the nations will call you blessed, for yours will be a delightful land,” says the Lord Almighty.

MALAChi 3:6-12 (nkJV)6“For I am the Lord, I do not change; Therefore you are not consumed, O sons of Jacob. 7Yet from the days of your fathers You have gone away from My ordinances and have not kept them. Return to Me, and I will return to you,” says the Lord of hosts. “But you said, ‘In what way shall we return?’ 8“Will a man rob God? Yet you have robbed Me! But you say, ‘In what way have we robbed You?’ In tithes and offerings. 9You are cursed with a curse, for you have robbed Me, Even this whole nation.

10Bring all the tithes into the storehouse, That there may be food in My house, and try Me now in this,” Says the Lord of hosts, “If I will not open for you the windows of heaven and pour out for you such blessing that there will not be room enough to receive it.

11“And I will rebuke the devourer for your sakes, So that he will not destroy the fruit of your ground, Nor shall the vine fail to bear fruit for you in the field,” Says the Lord of hosts; 12“And all nations will call you blessed, For you will be a delightful land,” Says the Lord of hosts.

Unison Scriptures Confession of Sins

Almighty and Most Merciful Father, we come before You, acknowledging our sins, our shortcomings, and our breaking of our Covenant with You.

Not only have we done things we ought not to have done, said things we ought not to have said, left undone so many things we ought to have done and been silent when we should have witnessed for You.

Not only are we guilty of that, O Lord; but we have also closed our eyes and pretended not to see the injustices, the racism and the evil which pervade our everyday lives.

We have shut our ears and pretended not to hear the cries for liberation which come from the lips, lives and hearts of the oppressed – even our own Black brothers and sisters!

Forgive us, O Lord, renew our courage and faith, and keep us ever mindful of Thy great sacrifice. Hear us, we beseech Thee, as we come to You in love and worship giving Your Name the praise forevermore.

******

To All Our Visitors ... To all who mourn and need comforting ... To all who are friendless and want friendship ... To all who are oppressed and need liberation; and to whosoever will come, Trinity opens its doors. Thank you for coming, and may God bless you.

11:00 a.m.

LUke 8:40-42; 49-56 (nRSV)40Now when Jesus returned, the crowd welcomed him, for they were all waiting for him. 41Just then there came a man named Jairus, a leader of the synagogue. He fell at Jesus’ feet and begged him to come to his house, 42for he had an only daughter, about twelve years old, who was dying. As he went, the crowds pressed in on him.

49While he was still speaking, someone came from the leader’s house to say, “Your daughter is dead; do not trouble the teacher any longer.” 50When Jesus heard this, he replied, “Do not fear. Only believe, and she will be saved.”51When he came to the house, he did not allow anyone to enter with him, except Peter, John, and James, and the child’s father and mother. 52They were all weeping and wailing for her; but he said, “Do not weep; for she is not dead but sleeping.” 53And they laughed at him, knowing that she was dead. 54But he took her by the hand and called out, “Child, get up!” 55Her spirit returned, and she got up at once. Then he directed them to give her something to eat. 56Her parents were astounded; but he ordered them to tell no one what had happened.

Minister Our public and private lives are ever seeking to be in line with the unconditional love of God, embodied through the person of Jesus Christ.

Congregation We are called to be a Christ-centered church.

Minister We believe justice and compassion is the manifestation of Christ’s love in the world. Where there is suffering, we seek to relieve it. Where there is brokenness, we seek to mend it. Where there is injustice, we seek to bring about a just relationship, through the building and expansion of God’s kingdom on earth.

Congregation We are called to be a liberation church.

Minister We believe God created us as unique works of art. As a church, it is our duty to reclaim our African heritage, which is also a Biblical heritage. We are called to speak for and with men and women of the Diaspora.

Congregation We are called to be an African-centered church.

Minister We are called to make an impact on our immediate community. The 95th St. Corridor and the 10-block radius surrounding our church is our parish; it is our call to be in the heart of the community and ever seek the community’s heart.

Congregation We are called to be a Community church.

All The Spirit of God, the Master, is on [us] because God anointed [us].

He sent [us] to preach good news to the poor, heal the heartbroken, announce freedom to all captives, pardon all prisoners.

God sent [us] to announce the year of His grace—a celebration of God’s destruction of our enemies—and to comfort all who mourn,

[We’ll] rebuild the old ruins, raise a new city out of the wreckage. [We’ll] start over on the ruined cities, take the rubble left behind and make it new.

Dear God,

Thank You for this day. Thank You for all the things You have done in my life. When You wake up me and my friends, we have to realize that school is important to further our minds. With Your help and strength, we can accomplish anything. We come today, saying thank You for all the things You have done and will do in our lives. As youth, we ask You to help those who are victims of violence and gangs. Help them to see that God is the right way to go. We know You will do it God. In Your mighty name we will pray, Amen.

Mikyra Mitchell

***Dear Heavenly Father:

There have been so many things going on in the world today, but I thank You every day for letting me see another day. I pray that You watch over the children of this city and give them hope for another day. I know at times it may seem like you’re not here but You are. You are my reason for waking up every morning. Lord, forgive me for not being all that You have created me to be. I ask that You give me strength to be able to speak life and help the hurt, confused, broken, and lost people around me. Lord, You have done so much for me and my family and I ask that You continue to be with us all along the way. Thank You for hearing my prayer even though I tend to be less than what You require of me. Give me courage and wisdom as I continue my days on Earth. In Jesus name I pray. Amen

Six Degrees of Education

1. One must never stop reading.2. Read history incessantly until you master it.3. To read intelligently, you must first be able to master the language of

your country.4. You should read four hours a day.5. Never keep the company of anyone who doesn’t know as much as

you do.6. Knowledge is power.

These are just a few of the tenets found in Marcus Garvey, Message to the People, The Course of African Philosophy, edited by Dr. Tony Martin. The Endeleo Institute is laser focused on economic development but reading is the fundamental pathway to our own development as a people.
