From Father: “Ordinary Time” - We have returned to the “Ordinary” time of the church year. In a sense it refers to the Church liturgical year that falls outside the major holy seasons of the year: Lent - Easter, Advent - Christmas. But Ordinary Time is not just the absence of a major season, any more than our lives are “just ordinary” (dull, boring) outside of our birthday or an anniversary. Each day of life is a gift from God who wants us to live life fully each and every day. We cannot always be on a “high.” We do have the “special” oc-casions every now and then. We are in the B cycle of the 3 cycles of Sunday readings - we are hearing the same Sunday Mass Readings as we did back in 2015, 2012, 2009, 2006, etc. The Gospels come from St. Mark. He wrote his account as a dramatic story with Jesus at the center. Jesus is always moving about, inviting his disciples, and us, to follow Him. It is Je-sus as the Word who came down here to reveal by word the Love that God the Father has for us.

In Light of the Above - consider this article entitled “Today.” My life is a gift of God, given not in years, but a day at a time. Today is the day the Lord has made for me, and He planned it to be the most important day of my life. Yesterday is gone, never to return. I must not worry about it, but leave it in the hands of God. Tomorrow and all that it holds is God’s secret, and its coming is not assured. Only today is mine. Each day arranged by God with infi-nite wisdom, and goodness, is His Gift, His act of love for me. In thanksgiving, I will offer Him every day the gift of my-self, my prayers, works, joys and sufferings. Amen.

Congratulations and Best Wishes to Our Gradu-ates - On the college level: Renee Petrella from Cazenovia College; Christina Anastas from LeMoyne College; Bridget Loper from Upstate Medical University. On the high-school level: Nathan McConnell, Robert Welch, Jonathan Romano from Liverpool High School; Jul-ian Spencer from Baker High School, Baldwinsville; Olivia Minor from Bishop Grimes High School. May your new path take you where you want to go, and may God watch over you always and in all ways.

Dear Graduates– here’s some food for thought now that you have emptied your brain of all those facts and figures. As you make a new beginning in your life, be aware of those things you did not learn in school. As you pursue your dreams, remember to take time to help and serve oth-ers, even if doing so slows you down a little. As you explore and develop your unique talents, remain humble realizing that your special abilities are gifts from God. As life hands you challenges, welcome them as ways to become smarter and stronger. As you acquire material things, know that your most important possessions are honesty, integrity, and the desire to make a difference.

Parish Trustees - Congratulations to Dolores Harris and Hal Henty who have been reappointed by Bishop Cunning-ham to serve as trustees of our parish corporation from July 1, 2018 to June 30, 2019.

Let’s Display the Flag - Once again we ask that be-tween now and the July 4th, please bring a display flag and place it along one of our sidewalks or along the driveway. As you place the flag, please say a prayer for peace and that God will bless America.

How About the Papal Flag? - Over in the area of the baptismal font and the statue of Mary is our papal glad flag which shows our Catholic identity and loyalty as Catholics to the Pope, just as the American flag signifies our patriot-ism as Americans. While it is not a symbol of the Catholic Church as such, it is appropriate in a church as the national flag of the Vatican City State. It became the official flag of the tiny nation of Vatican City in 1929. It is based on 2 colors—yellow & white. The yellow rep-resents the illumination or the divine light. The white corre-sponds to the opening of the gates of spiritual knowledge. The three crown papal tiara constitutes a representation of the distinction of the three worlds—the celestial, the hu-man, and the terrestrial. These worlds do not designate places but rather states or modes of being. As we know, God has created life on various levels—plant, animal, man-kind. In similar fashion, the Pope is a bridge linking the as-cent path from inferior to superior states of being right up to the spirit or angel form in heaven.

The Symbols on the Papal Flag—There are 2 keys, one gold and one silver, crossed over one another so as to form a X with a red cord tying them together. This repre-sents the Keys of the Kingdom of Heaven as seen in Mt. 16:19. Jesus spoke of Peter’s authority, “Whatever you bind on earth shall be bound in heaven, and whatever you loose on earth shall be loosed in heaven.” The silver key symbol-izes the power to bind and loose on earth, and the gold key represents the power to bind and loose in heaven. The mechanisms are pointed towards heaven and the gripping part of the key is turned downward. In other words the power of the kingdom of heaven is entrusted into the hands of the Vicar of Christ/the Pope on earth.

In Front of the Papal Flag is a small pedestal box on which is placed a statue of St. Francis after whom our pre-sent Pope is named. In front of the pedestal is a picture of our present Pope Francis.

A Deck of Cards - A solider was questioned by his com-manding offices as to why he always had a deck of cards at hand. He responded that he was not looking for a card game, but used the cards to meditate with the Lord - it was a condensed version of the Bible for him. He explained: the aces reminded him that there is one true God; the 2’s are the 2 parts of the bible, the Old Testa-ment and the New Testament; the 3’s are the Trinity; the 4’s are the 4 evangelists, Matthew, Mark, Luke and John; the 6’s are the 6 days God used to create; the 7’s represent God rested the 7th day; the 10’s are the 10 command-ments; the Kings stand for Christ the King. In addition, the 4 suits are the seasons, the 52 cards are the 52 weeks in a year.

Buy It & Enjoy It - United Church of Christ - Friday, June 29th, 12noon, $3.00 - open hot roast beef sandwich, roast-ed Brussel sprouts, fruit cocktail. Please call 470-3331 by Wednesday.

Gospel Thought - “What will this child be?” It concerns all parents as they spend years trying to influence and shape the answer. Like John the Baptist may our children be “strong in spirit.”

And- Let us pray for each other. Keep up the good work. Know that I appreciate all you do for our parish. God bless you- till next week.
