The first is one that we, as Lutherans, are typically very good at. God’s Word not only explains what baptism and the Lord’s Supper are, but, in fact, God’s Word DOES baptism and the Lord’s Supper. The benefit of a baptism, life and salvation, come from the promise and power in God’s Word. The bene- fit of the Lord’s Supper, forgiveness of sins and salvation, come from the promise and power in God’s Word. When we hear God’s Word and receive the Sacraments, God is doing His Word to and for us. One could say that this is loving the Lord God with all our heart, soul, mind and strength. The second is what the Holy Spirit is acting in us for, and what we need to be in prayer and making an effort for, and that is loving our neighbor as ourselves. It looks like healthy communication among members of our congregation, using the principles of love, forgiveness, and grace in the different places God has us every day, and working together as a congregation for the good of the Kingdom, just to name a few. This one seems harder to come by, but in fact, is promised by God as well with His Spirit of Unity. Please join me in praying for our church body to glorify God in the way that we live out the salva- tion that He has granted to us. It will surely be a blessed and wonderful journey! Dear Friends in Christ,

As some of you know, the Sunday morning adult Bible class is studying the book of

James. As we read through it, it is becoming more and more clear to me that the

above verse is a great summary, not only of the book of James, but of our life to-

gether as the Body of Christ.

Just as it is important, even essential, to hear and accept the Word of God, it is equally essential to

apply His Word in our everyday lives. Perhaps the question you are thinking of, as I often do, is what does

that look like. I believe that they are at least two good pictures of what doing the Word looks like.

The first is one that we, as Lutherans, are typically very good at. God’s Word not only explains

what baptism and the Lord’s Supper are, but, in fact, God’s Word DOES baptism and the Lord’s Supper.

The benefit of a baptism, life and salvation, come from the promise and power in God’s Word. The bene-

fit of the Lord’s Supper, forgiveness of sins and salvation, come from the promise and power in God’s

Word. When we hear God’s Word and receive the Sacraments, God is doing His Word to and for us.

One could say that this is loving the Lord God with all our heart, soul, mind and strength.

The second is what the Holy Spirit is acting in us for, and what we need to be in prayer and making

an effort for, and that is loving our neighbor as ourselves. It looks like healthy communication among

members of our congregation, using the principles of love, forgiveness, and grace in the different places

God has us every day, and working together as a congregation for the good of the Kingdom, just to

name a few. This one seems harder to come by, but in fact, is promised by God as well with His Spirit of

Unity.

Please join me in praying for our church body to glorify God in the way that we live out the salva-

tion that He has granted to us. It will surely be a blessed and wonderful journey!

Yours in Christ,

Pastor Grunklee

L.S.S. NEWS BY MARKY EDWARDS,

COMMUNITY RELATIONS

Wedgewood South (WS) – They have 48 resi-dents and are working with a waiting list. Foster Care (FIT) – Five beds are available and there are 54 foster children. Another foster care agency is closing and will allow FIT to visit with their foster parents. NEEDS for FIT: In emergency situations children come to FIT with only the clothes they are wear-ing. Gift cards from Target or Walmart would be greatly appreciated so socks, underwear, etc. could be purchased. Preferable amount is $25. Health for Friends (HFF) – Ninety-five individuals were seen in the clinic. The Anderson Foundation gave them $4,000 for prescription assistance. Twenty-three are on the glucose strip program. HFF was invited to Lubbock Christian to do a presentation on community service projects their students could do for HFF and NH. Neighborhood House (NH) – Contracts for utility assistance funds has been received. The applica-tion process has begun and $25,000 has already been promised or committed. A total of $891,256 was received and hopefully more funds will be re-ceived throughout the year. NEEDS for NH: deodorant, toilet paper, and laun-dry detergent. Spring Fling – Save the date--May 9, 2015! Spring Fling will begin at 6 pm at the Frazier Alumni Center, on the Tech campus. This year we will have a western theme. Mr. Mark Minnick of the LSSS Austin office at-tended the meeting and expressed thanks for the work going on in the Lubbock area and stated that it is one of the most giving communities working with LSSS. Strategic planning is going on statewide at LSSS and more information is com-ing in the near future.
