FIRST LUTHERAN SCHOOL CARDINAL CLASSIC GOLF TOURNAMENT: Are you a golfer and are looking for a fun opportunity to help First Lutheran? Maybe you're not a golfer, but would still like to support our students! You don’t golf; though want to be part of an amazing day? If any of these opportunities appeal to you, we have the event coming up! The second Cardinal Classic golf tournament will be held on Sunday, October 25, at Wentz Golf Course. All money raised will benefit the FLS technology and educational programs. We began the technology upgrade last time; we need to finish now. Interested in participating in the 4 person scramble? Attached to the back of this Cardinal Chatter is your registration form. You may sign up a team, or you may sign up as an individual. Do you want to support the school through a sponsorship? A sponsor form is also attached so you can choose your level of giving. Remember, all levels of hole sponsorship are tax deductible! Need a little more incentive to get involved? For every $100 sponsor/donation that you bring to the office, your name will be placed in a drawing to win one of two prizes: a $250 credit and/or a $125 credit to your child’s First Lutheran School account! Let's get out, play a little golf, and help raise money for our students. If you have any questions, please contact our school office.

HEARING TESTING is being conducted here for Pre-K, Kindergarten, 2nd, 4th, 6th, and 8th grades on September 16. Results will be shared with the parents and re-testing will occur on Wednesday - October 21 for those who did not pass the first time in the event of allergy, congestion, etc.

In these cases, we send your receipts home with your students. We had a great lunch at Freddy's together and lots of fun the whole day. Thanks Lauren!

PRE-SCHOOL – Mrs. Herard: Welcome back! Hope everyone enjoyed the Labor Day weekend. The rest of the week will be busy! Next Thursday, the 17th, will be Family Fun Night. NO SCHOOL Friday the 18th as teachers attend a conference. Our theme for this week is "Feelings" and our letter is "C". God bless your week!

PRE-KINDERGARTEN - Mrs. Kelly: I hope you enjoyed your long weekend! Ask your children about our caterpillars and butterflies. Thank you to the Harland family for sharing them with us. The field trip forms were due to me today. If you haven't sent yours back, please send it tomorrow. I have extended the deadline for our first book order, it is due to me or online this Friday, September 11th. This is great way to build your library at home, and to help our class get books and supplies. Thank you for the wish list items! Our Bible words this week are, God saw that it was good. Genesis 1:10. We are learning about words this week. Have a blessed week!

KINDERGARTEN – Mrs. Miller: I hope everyone had a great long weekend! We have a new student this week and his name is Levi. Welcome to our kindergarten class Levi! Today a Scholastic book order is coming home and it will be due by Wednesday Sept. 16th. Please make your checks out to Scholastic or you can order online with a credit card. Have an awesome week!

FIRST GRADE – Mrs. Birnbaum: I hope that everyone had a nice and restful weekend. Thank you for working with your child on their memory work - they are doing a great job! Memory for Friday: Repent, then, and turn to God, so that your sins may be wiped out. Acts 3:19. Field trip forms along with $1 were due today. Please turn yours in tomorrow if you have not done so yet. A reminder for water bottles - please bring only WATER in your bottle - thanks! Blessings on your week.

SECOND GRADE – Mrs. Powell: What a wonderful, restful weekend! We're good to go again. We will NOT have a spelling test this Friday. We'll work on this list for these two shorter weeks. The test for these words will be on Thursday, September 17. Memory work for tomorrow, Thursday, is Psalm 90:1 "Lord, You have been our dwelling place throughout all generations." Blessings.

THIRD GRADE - Mrs. Steichen: I hope everyone had a nice and relaxing three day weekend. Thank you to all the parents who drove for us last week on the field trip. We had a good time and learned a lot. This week: Spelling, Reading, and Memory all on Friday. Book Orders are also due on Friday. Book Report information should have come home yesterday, if not please ask your child about this. These are due on October 2nd. If you have any questions please let me know. September 17th is Family Fun Night, Ann Jackson will be contacting you to see when you are available to work one of our games. September 18th no school, teachers conference. If you have a question on spelling words or memory please check the bulletin board as I will keep it up dated. Have a great week!!!

FOURTH GRADE - Mrs. Sibley: What a wonderful relaxing three day weekend we had. Continue reading to earn our AR goals! Remember mid-term reports are going out next week. Please continue to sign planners nightly. Friday at 10 a.m. we will be trying on Rose Hill Clothes, sewing our Nine Patch Quilts, & peeling our apples. Each child needs to bring in an apple on Friday so that we may peel and eat them as we would in 1910. If you are going to have clothes made or have other non-classroom Rose Hill clothes to wear, please let me know so we do not reserve clothes for you. Remember moms and dads need to dress in time period clothes also. If you have scrap fabrics at home to donate or if there is a favorite fabric students want to use, please send them into school. Peace as you serve the Lord.

FIFTH GRADE - Mrs. Schatte: What an enjoyable Labor Day weekend I had! It sounds like many children also enjoyed their long weekend. Now it's back to work! Tests this week include spelling and reading on Friday. Please see my Fast Direct Bulletin Board for specific directions about these tests. Tutoring at FLS started this week. Some of us are struggling with math and possibly language. If your child needs extra help, the FLS-PTL offers this tutoring free of charge. It's after school on Tuesday’s and Thursday’s from 3:30-4:30 in the Middle School Math Room. If you have questions or concerns, you may contact me at 580-763-4856. Blessings!

MIDDLE SCHOOL Mrs. Goll: Math: I’m really pleased with the level of effort of our math students. Just a few minutes of review

each evening will help solidify concepts. I give credit for corrections; remind your student to make the effort to do corrections. It will help his/her grade and his/her understanding.

Sixth Grade – LUTHERHOMA – Mrs. Goll: Sixth-graders should have brought home information about Lutherhoma yesterday. If you have not yet seen it, please ask your student. Call or text if you have questions. More information will be coming.

4 Growing up Into Jesus, Reaching Out with Jesus, Walking Together in Jesus

Mrs. Harbeson: I hope you all enjoyed your Labor Day weekend! Starting school on Tuesday has thrown me off just a bit, so please excuse my tardy webpage! It's hard to believe, but today marks the mid-quarter point of the first nine weeks. I'm pleased with most of our students when it comes to handing in assignments on time and doing them well. Keep up the good work! I want to encourage all students (and parents) to keep up with assignments and grades by checking into your FastDirect account regularly. I'm sure all of the middle school students are looking forward to their upcoming trips. 7th grade...your permission slips are due today. If you forgot to bring it, get it to me ASAP so I can continue making the necessary arrangements. That's all for now! Blessings on the rest of your week!

Mrs. Hanson: 7th Grade cookie dough orders needed to be in today, Wednesday. We will ship those orders off and cookie dough should be here in about two weeks.

8th Grade is still collecting bugs. Please ask your student how many bugs they have collected and identified. The project due date is quickly approaching and the insects are quickly dying off for winter.

6th grade is just crusin' through atoms! I am so impressed. We are moving on and learning about electrons and their connections with bonding (pun intended).

7th grade will need to make a scarecrow or pumpkin project for the Family Fun Night, if you have any ideas or resources, please let us know. 7th Grade is also in charge of selling dinner that night. A signup sheet for times will be posted within the next week.

Mr. Covert: I hope everyone enjoyed the long weekend and is ready to get back to work at FLS! Here's what's happening this week!

In 8th grade, we've started our DC primer. This is for the students to get familiar with the history of DC, and will take about a week and a half. It's mostly self work and research, but they will have ample class time in which to do so. In 7th grade, we're wrapping up human geography, and moving into locations. Our first location is North America, east of the Mississippi River. We'll start in on that Thursday after we wrap up human geography. And in 6th grade, we're still focusing on Ancient Egypt. We have a wealth of knowledge about this civilization, and we are studying it diligently as we go.

8th grade parents, I sent out fastdirect messages and notes with the students regarding the amount needed for DC. I will need those by the end of the week! Also, we have a final logistical meeting planned for Thursday, September 17th, at 6 PM. This one WILL happen, and we will go over our itinerary and what to expect the day we head out. I will also give you any amount you overpaid at that time so you can take care of it before we leave.

I hope everyone is refreshed and recharged following the long weekend. God's blessings on the rest of this short week!
