CHAIR MESSAGE
Peter James, Chair
It’s time folks! You know what its time for? It’s
November. It’s time to begin the season of celebration.
It’s the Holiday season. We made it. This year flew by.
But before we get knee deep in eggnog, let’s figure out
how to make the most of Black Friday and the spending
season. You see, this is also the season that your customers are
mentally ready to spend money. So, as they are in a celebratory
mode, ensure that your marketing campaigns are solid and ready to
execute. Ensure that your customer service is so pristine that your
future customers can ultimately become salespeople for you. And
lastly, ensure that you are able to reflect and be thankful for the
opportunity when it is all said and done.
And don’t forget about the opportunity to celebrate with the Lisle
Area Chamber of Commerce. Even though there is not much time left
in the year, there are still a few events that will allow people to be
exposed to you and your business. The first major event of the month
is Lisle Uncorked, A Wine Event on Friday, 11/2, 6:00 p.m. - 10:00 p.m.
There is a Business After Hours on 11/14, 5:00 p.m. - 7:00 p.m. at The
Collective Ihe & Makery. Keep your exercise regimen intact prior to
Thanksgiving by taking part in the Annual Turkey Trot Tune-Up 5K on
11/18 in Lisle Community Park. There are also two luncheons being
offered this month, 11/15, “Affordable Digital Marketing Strategies for
2019” and 11/28, Multi-Chamber Polka Dot Progressive Networking
Luncheon.
While these big events are mainstay’s for the month, I highly
recommend that you consider joining the many planning committees
that allow this chamber to run smoothly. Namely, the Government
Affairs, Dinner Dance, Lisle Uncorked, LINCT, Ale Fest and
Ambassadors Committee’s can all benefit from your expertise and
knowledge. So, why not invite other businesses and jump on in so that
we can continue to strengthen the best chamber in the Western
Suburbs!
Looking forward to celebrating with you all soon.

CHAMBER NEWS
As you know, the midterm elections are next Tuesday, November
6, 2018. I want to bring some DuPage County propositions to
your attention. If you read it quickly, I recommend you look at this
again. The wording on this proposition is a bit confusing until you
read it a second time and say “Oh that’s what it means”. Please
take time out of your busy day and make your voice be heard and
vote. Below please see the three DuPage County Propositions on
the ballot.
Shall DuPage County oppose the General Assembly instituting a property tax
increase equivalent to 1% of your home’s value to help retire state debt? Yes/No
Shall DuPage County oppose the creation of a statewide Vehicle Mileage Tax
(VMT) which would tax DuPage County citizens based upon the number of miles
driven annually? Yes/No
Shall DuPage County continue to dissolve and consolidate units of local
government to reduce costs, increase efficiencies, and increase accountability?
Yes/No
Speaking of voting, don’t forget to send us your ballot for Lisle Area Chamber of
Commerce’s annual election of the Board of Directors. The slate of nominee’s
ballot was mailed to one representative from each Chamber business. We need
the ballots to be returned to our office by Friday, November 16, 2018. The
installation of the 2019 Board of Directors will be held at the Annual Meeting
and Holiday party on December 13, 2018 at the Sheraton, Lisle.
We are preparing the 2019 calendar of events. Some new events will be
introduced and if you would like to host a Business After Hours, please let us
know. Thanksgiving weekend is upon us. November 24, 2018 is Shop Small
Saturday, so stop buy and visit our local retailers. I am sure you will find that
perfect gift. Of course, shopping local is not only a one day event. Our small
business owners need us to shop at their businesses all year long. Saturday,
December 1st and 2nd is Lights of Lisle, which includes the Santa light parade,
Merry on Main and Once Upon a Christmas, in downtown Lisle.
Lisle Uncorked $5.00 off coupon with WINE is still available until 2:00pm, Friday.
Prices go up at the door. Malloy’s Finest, Lisle has 55 different wines to choose
from. Your ticket includes twelve 1 ounce tastes of wine, (Alter Brewing has a
beer tasting) delicious appetizers, a raffle ticket, and paint a wine glass (Pinot’s
Palette). Stop by the office tomorrow from 9-2 pm and use the code WINE to
receive $5.00 off your ticket. Tickets at the door will be $45.00.
