Mission Statement

“To facilitate, advocate and cultivate opportunities for the Lisle Area

Business Community”

We are near the end of another great year for the Lisle Chamber. We have worked to

serve you the membership to provide opportunities for you to prosper and grow. Our

many events give you the chance to showcase your business or organization and meet

other like-minded people pursuing solid business practices. You or your employees

ria Bombola, Business After Hours at the West Suburban Community Pantry, and the Turkey

Trot Tune-up on Sunday November 24th. It was a great month for networking with all of those oppor-

tunities.

I want to thank the sponsors of the 5K race for all their support including Presenting Sponsor, Du-

Page Medical Group, Platinum Sponsors, the Lisle Park District and Molex, and Silver sponsors,

Athletico and Avant at the Arboretum. We also had support from Dick Pond Athletics, Whole

Foods in Wheaton, Walgreens, Jewel Foods, Janor Sports, Essig Printing, Alliance Health and

Page, Julie LaFond from St. Joan of Arc, Nadine Filipiak from Filipiak Marketing Communica-

tions, Adrienne Ruiz from Benedictine University, Valerie Janke, Waddell and Reed, Terry Madl

from Runners for Wellness, Rich Janor, Janor Sports and Dr. Eric Williams, Williams Chiroprac-

tic Center. We had a terrific core which helped for a smooth running event. Congratulations to

Mayor Broda and his wife Joanne who both won medals for placing in their age groups.

This month we will hold our annual meeting to honor the outgoing board of directors and introduce

the new board. Our speaker at this special event is Julie Mueller, President of Universal Technical

Institute. It will be an exciting and informative meeting so we hope to see you all there. We especial-

ly want to thank the committee chairs for the great job they have done this year. We will also be pre-

senting awards for Ambassador of the Year and Volunteer of the Year.

Chair Message—Paula Gleason

We are very happy to welcome Steele Communications and Insight Property Ser-vices to the Lisle Chamber and anticipate their commitment to Chamber net-working events. Our November events included two Lisle Executive Networking Group luncheons and a Women in Business multi-Chamber lunch. Ribbon cut-ting at Advanced Lisle Dental was a very well-attended networking event with deli-cious food and drinks Thank you to the West Suburban Community Pantry for hosting a very successful multi-Chamber Business After Hours with superb net-working and wonderful food and drinks. The general membership luncheon at Pizzeria Bombola featured Wallace Long discussing a Committed Customer Ser-vice program. Many enjoyed a ribbon-cutting at Dr. Todd Martin’s new Lisle loca-tion complete with an array of delectable food and drinks. Turkey Trot Tune-up closed out the month with a great attendance in spite of the cold weather.

This time of year we reflect on our accomplishments. I find it hard to believe that 2013 is coming to a close, however, I am content that this has been a very successful year. Our Chamber events and networking opportunities have allowed us to support one another and truly commit to this year’s theme, “Building a Foundation of Commitment”. Membership retention has remained steady and the Chamber is financially strong. The annual dinner dance was extremely well-attended and financially quite successful; we anticipate this will replicate again. Please commit to save the date of February 7, 2014 for the annual “Dancing with the Chamber Stars” Dinner Dance at the Lisle Hilton Hotel with an underlying theme of Luau in Lisle.

Our Chamber commitment to Benedictine University supported a successful Lislepalooza venue in February. Despite some “dicey” weather conditions, the annual 5K/10K was also very well attended and proceeds al-lowed us to donate many $500 scholarships to local area students. The golf outing was successful, weather was perfect, golfers were in high gear and raffle items were in abundance. Our Chamber commitment to Eyes to the Skies provided crucial community involvement, as did four Lisle Cruise Nights. And, the inaugural Chamber fundraising event, Alefest was hugely successful! “Building a Foundation of Commitment” was ever so evident following the April 18th flooding when Chamber members Fast Signs of Naperville, Lisle Hil-ton, Hyatt, Jewel, Pizzeria Bombola, and many others, rallied to assist victimized Chamber members in dis-tress such as Lisle Lanes, Lisle Savings Bank on Maple, Rayme’s, Snow Valley Nursing Center and many oth-ers. Our Chamber committed with other Lisle service organizations to help coordinate efforts to assist flood victims; recovery continues and we are committed to respond to the needs of our residents and businesses.

I am so grateful to our membership for your support; the Chamber would not be as successful as it is without your commitment. Special appreciation goes out to the 2013 Executive Committee and Board of Directors for their leadership and direction over the last year. They have contributed greatly to the success and profes-sionalism that the Lisle Chamber exemplifies today. Our 2013 Executive Committee is Chris Ashe of Brian Ashe & Associates, Past Chairman; Kitty Murphy of The Nook, Chair-Elect; Tom Reif, Hallberg Insurance, Vice Chair; Sonny Smith of College of DuPage, Treasurer; as well as, Tom Althoff, Chamber President and CEO. Our other Board members are Mark Acquaviva, Performance Merchant Processing; Elizabeth Boone, Moser College, Benedictine University; Richard Brink, Hilton Lisle/Naperville; Dan Garvy, Lisle Park Dis-trict; Bill Kuglich, Molex; Julie LaFond, St. Joan of Arc; Christopher Pellico, Navistar; Susan Ross, The Mor-ton Arboretum; Diane Merna, Adler Associates; and continuing to serve as ex-officio members Mayor Joe Broda, Village of Lisle; and Jim Harkness, General Counsel, Momkus McCloskey. I especially want to thank Tom Althoff, Jill Eidukas, Jen and Julie Sumner for their hard work and team support, without which the Chamber could not function! My heartfelt thanks to Ambassadors, Committee Chairs, volunteers and spon-sors for their commitment of time and energy to make the Lisle Chamber such a tremendous organization. Any time I asked for their help, I received 100% commitment from all concerned.

I want to extend a special thank you to Dan Garvey, as he completes his second term and six years of exempla-ry service to the Chamber Board.

As my term as your Chairman ends, my goal of Building a Foundation of Commitment and creating a Vision, Mission and Action Plan for 2014 has been successful. A crucial aspect of true commitment is standing up to those who would undermine commitment, those whose words or actions show disrespect – I have guaran-teed that the Chamber is committed to provide opportunities to grow your business with integrity and hones-ty.

It has been truly an honor for me to serve as the 2013 Chairman of the Board. Thank you and welcome to the 2014 Chairman of the Board, Kitty Murphy of The Nook – welcome, Kitty!

Sonny is a Professor at the College of DuPage and has been teaching for 22 years. He has been a Lisle Area Chamber Member for about 9 years, an Ambassador for 7 years and was Ambassador of the year in 2011. In addition to his involvement as an Ambassador, Sonny has worked on several Lisle Area Chamber Committees such as the Dinner Dance, Golf Outing, 5K Turkey Trot Tune-Up, and 5K/10K Spring Sprint committees. community. Sonny resides in Lisle with his wife Linda. In his free time he enjoys boating.

The West Suburban Community Pantry held its annual Multi-Chamber Business After Hours with the Lisle Area Chamber, Downers Grove Area Chamber, and Woodridge Area Chamber at their Woodridge location. The Pantry provides year-round assistance to those in need. Due to the Pantry purchasing in bulk, the dollar goes a lot farther and a donation of $25.00 can assist in purchasing an entire cart of groceries. Even if you missed this Business After Hours, you did not miss the oppor-tunity to help eradicate hunger. To make a donation, please visit the West Suburban Community Pantry’s website at www.wcpinc.org.
