    April 2013

March brought several events to the Lisle Chamber that provided some unique opp

nities. Our 14th annual Spring Sprint 5K/10K held at Lisle Community Parkon M

10th occurred in the midst of a meltdown of the heavy snow and an overnight rain

affected the race course. Although it didnt rain during the event there was lots of

standing water on the race course. The runners were real troopers to trudge ahea

through the moisture to a successful conclusion.

We are very appreciative of the event sponsors including Lisle Savings Bankwhi

has been with us from the beginning, DuPage Medical Group which provided sli

cloth bags, hand warmers and sponsorship, Dick Pond athletics which provided b

numbers and prizes for the finishers, Molex Corporation which was a sponsor and brought many run

Williams Chiropractic which gave us water bottles, Athletico which provided stretching and conditifor the participants and sponsorship, ChiroOne which was a sponsor, Jewel which helped with suppl

Unilever which provided personal care items, and the Lisle Convention and Visitors Bureau which

a contributor. We also want to thank the Lisle Lions Club for all of their volunteer assistance helping

tain after race food and taking care of the water stations as well as helping with parking. Steve Essig

Essig Printing and Rich Janor ofJanor Sports provided essential items for the event and were also

huge help prior to and on race day. Rich did a great job as MC. Bill Buchelt ofElan Photography w

volunteer coordinator and race leader. Thanks to him for a great job. Thanks also to Alliance Health

Wellness for offering the massages and Walgreens(Rt.53 and Maple) for donating cases of water. Fi

thanks to Dan Garvy and the Lisle Park District for the tremendous support with course logistics an

coordination. Without them this race would not happen. Congratulations to all the winners and thanks

    participating!

Have you heard of Lean Six Sigma? If not you may want to attend our April 18th luncheon at the Lisle

emphasis on the elimination of waste. Six Sigma is designed to lower occurrences of defects in produc

services to improve overall quality. These principles that began in the manufacturing sector are applic

to organizations and businesses that provide services.

Michael Higgins is a certified Global Lean Six Sigma Master Black Belt which he earned through the

Juran Institute. If you want to learn about some methods to increase the quality of your business this

    gram should not be missed.

Officially, spring popped in on us in March, but March continued to give usquite a few weather challenges! Those challenges however did not deter oenergetic and focused members. The Ambassadors, Board of Directors and

their respective spouse or guest participated in a very well attended annual cial event at the home of Diane Merna on March 8. What fun! Then on Suday, March 10, despite some dicey weather, the Spring Sprint 5K/10K ho276 runners and walkers of all ages at Community Park. Participants receivmember-sponsored tech shirts, muscle milk, fruit and bagels in addition to pes awarded in every age category.

Thanks to the Rotary Club of Lisle for much camaraderie and enjoyment at the Business AfterHours and fund-raising raffle, known as the annual Luck O the Irish, on March 13. Wheatstacprovided sumptuous hors doeuvres and a good time was had by all.

Be sure to mark your calendar for April 13, 9am to noon, Lisles largest FREE shred day, at 18Short Street, in the lower lot just east of the Community Center.

With spring in full swing, we anticipate another outstanding Chamber event in April at a not-foprofit sponsored multi-chamber membership luncheon on April 18 at the Hyatt, featuring MikeHiggins, Molex Director Global Lean Six Sigma, focusing on tools for streamlining productionhope you commit to being there with us!

We welcome several enthusiastic new members to the Lisle Chamber: Carlin Nalley Foundatioand Humidor. They will add unique opportunities for partnership and growth.

Continuing our emphasis on commitment, the most basic is a commitment to a set of values, prciples or beliefs. These underlying principles define both the organizations uniqueness and thfundamental direction in which it wants to head. This commitment leads to a common vision apurpose within the organization. I would like to thank each of you for your strong commitmeto our values which contributes to our Chamber being one of the most highly regarded Chambein the area. Ambassador SPOTLIGHT Jack Emerick

Jack Emerick has been a Chamber member for a little over a year and an ambassador for

the past 4 months. As an introvert, being an Ambassador makes it easier for Jack to go

to and network at Chamber events since he knows he will be seeing a few people he al-

ready knows. It is also a great way to meet local business owners.Jack is the Branch Manager at MB Financial. He has been in the financial fields for al-

most 8 years now. Jacks primary focus is on business development. This includes meet-

ing with both existing and potential business customers. He is also responsible for the

day to day operation of the branch and developing his staff. One of the most exciting

ings about his job is the ability to see his staff promoted either within the branch or to other areas of the com-

    any.

s a resident of Aurora, Jack is current pursuing his MBA at Northern Illinois University. He leaves us with this quote, Winninot a sometime thing; its an all time thing. You dont win once in a while, you dont do things right once in a while, you do

em right all the time. Winning is habit. Unfortunately, so is losing. Vince Lombardi.
