Calvary Chapel Guitar and Music Program 2012-2013 Welcome students to a new program starting this fall at Calvary Chapel Christian School. It is my pleasure to be instructing you in the art and concepts of modern guitar. We will be breaking down the semester into several key categories: Theory and Harmony Chart Reading Techniques and Application Improvisation Each student will be assessed at their own level and ability and from there begin a structured program. The Psalmist says in Psalm 33:3 “ Sing to Him a new song; play skillfully with a shout of joy”. This is an important verse to remember as musicians unto the Lord. Our desire should be to please the Lord with the gifts that He is given us, and not for personal glory and vain recognition. Psalm 34:18 says“ The Lord is near to those who have a broken heart, and saves such as have a contrite spirit”. Our aim should be to master our gifts for the absolute use and advancement of His kingdom. One of the greatest classical composers of all time Johannes Sebastian Bach said this; “The aim and final end of all music should be none other than the glory of God and the refreshment of the soul”, and “Where there is devotional music, God is always at hand with His gracious presence”.

Calvary Chapel Guitar and Music Program 2012-2013

Welcome students to a new program starting this fall at Calvary Chapel Christian School. It is my pleasure to be instructing you in the art and concepts of modern guitar. We will be breaking down the semester into several key categories: Theory and Harmony Chart Reading Techniques and Application ImprovisationEach student will be assessed at their own level and ability and from there begin a structured program. The Psalmist says in Psalm 33:3 Sing to Him a new song; play skillfully with a shout of joy. This is an important verse to remember as musicians unto the Lord. Our desire should be to please the Lord with the gifts that He is given us, and not for personal glory and vain recognition. Psalm 34:18 says The Lord is near to those who have a broken heart, and saves such as have a contrite spirit. Our aim should be to master our gifts for the absolute use and advancement of His kingdom.

One of the greatest classical composers of all time Johannes Sebastian Bach said this; The aim and final end of all music should be none other than the glory of God and the refreshment of the soul, and Where there is devotional music, God is always at hand with His gracious presence. Bach is the best example of what God can do through a person who is utterly devoted to Christ, and willing to master the gifts that have been given to him for no other reason but for the Glory Jesus Christ. God used yet another young man with very humble beginnings to form, influence and change the world around him. Niccolai Rimsky-Korsakov said I had no idea of the historical evolution of the civilized world's music and had not realized that all modern music owes everything to Bach. I am sure if Bach where there to hear that quote he would have corrected Niccolai by saying, it was not I that did anything, but what Christ Jesus did through me. As we enter our semester we should bare in mind that music is a journey, much like our walk with Jesus; its not a race of speed, but of humility, endurance and fortitude. I look forward to the up and coming year and to seeing your accomplishments and personal goals attained.Sincerely,Mr. Jewell
