Mrs. Lillian Guckenheimer, mother of our Temple House Advisor and former Sisterhood President, Mrs. Philip M. Stern, was buried last Friday. Mrs. Guckenheimer was leader of our Red Cross and Char­ity Sewing Groups and was a re­vered leader of our Sisterhood. We mourn her passing and shall miss her greatly.

WAYS AND MEANS COMMITTEE The Ways and Means Committee

is moving actively forward with its plans for the Annual Affair of the Congregation. Mr. Arnold W. Beck­er, Chairman of the Ticket Commit­tee, is negotiating for the musical revue "Inside U.S.A." based upon the best-seller by John Gunther. This production will open at the end of April, and will feature Beatrice lil­lie, Jack Haley, and others, with lyr­ics and book by Charles MacArthur, Ben Hecht, and George Kaufman. The play promises to be the out­standing musical production of the year. In connection with the affair a Year Book will be published to raise funds for the Expansion Pro­gram of our Temple, and at the last meeting, Mr. Ben Siegel, Chairman of the Journal, announced that half the quota s.et had already been raised.

SISTERHOOD NO~ This Wednesday afternoon, Feb­

ruary 11th, at 1:30 the Sisterhood and· the P.T.A. will hold a Joint Meet­ing on behalf of the United Jewish Appeal. In addition to a message from a prominent speaker, a mo­tion picture will be shown.- Mon­day afternoon, February 16th, at 2 o'clock, the regular Sisterhood Meet­ing will be held, and Rabbi Soltes will speak on the subject: "Jewish 'Boys' Town'''.

The next meeting of the Men's Association will be open to our Tem­ple families, and the program will feature Mr. Irving Davidson, ' noted scholar and humorist, who will speak on "Jewish Historical Oddi­ties." The date is Tuesday everling, February 17th.

YOUTH DIVISION Mr. Irving Hyman, advisor of the Ru·

dolph GrosSman Society, will speak to the Post Graduate Society on Sunday morning, February 8th on John Roy Carl­son's book "The Plotters".

• • • The Social Service Committee 01 the

Rudolph Grossman Society, headed by Louise Rosenthal, is planning a special

program on behaU of the Uruled Palestine Appeal, at which time the committee will show the film "House in the Desert", nar­rated by Ralph Bellamy. The film will be followed by a discussion on the need for fiDcmcial aid to the Palestinian cause ' at the present moment.

The annual Brotherhood Rally, spon­sored by the Rudolph Grossman Society, will be held on Wednesday, February 11th in the Marcus Loew Auditorium. The committee, of which William Manheimer is chairman, has been meeting for several months to carefully plan the details of t his important program. Participating groups include the. high school societies of several Protestant churches and several synagogues in this area. Preparatory meetings have been held at different churches and synagogues in rotation so that when the young people meet on Lin­coln's Birthday Eve the leaders will al. ready have been well associated with each other. All young people of high school age are cordially invited for what promises to be a very fine evening of in­tercultural activitY and entertainment.

• • • The monthly Youth Sabbath Service

sponsored by the Youth Council will be held on the 5th floor of the Temple house on February 6th at 8:15 P.M. Our guest preacher on this evening will be Mr. Stephen· K. Schwartz. advisor of the Post Graduate Society, who ·will discuss th~ topic: "What Are You Living For?". The service will be followed by an Oneg Shabbat on the 3rd ~oor which will in­dude folk dancing and community sing-ing.

• • • The Rodeph Sholom Youth Council

"Snow Ball" will be held in the M~s Loew Auditorium on Saturday evening February 7th. The "Snow Bcdl" this year will feature the crowning of our new Snow Queen, Candy Montgomery. "The Gal With the Glow". and the voice of John Fogerty, one of radio's leq:d1ng lyric tenors.

Miss Montgomery has appeared in Broadway shows, in radio, television and movies, and will soon be seen in "The Portrait of Jenny". She will be crowned Snow Queen in a special production staged by Bert Sussman, formerly with Billy Rose.
