A Message from our Principal, Ms Pantelis A Supportive Community

One of the contributing factors of what makes our school successful is the high level of support we receive from our parents, grandparents and various community members who volunteer their time to support the students at Burraneer Bay. Attached to this newsletter is an invitation to say “thank you”. We hope you can join us.

The Fathering Project

Please read the attached flyer regarding a great initiative called "The Fathering Project" which is being implemented in public schools. Attached to this newsletter is a flyer providing more information about this project. The following video provides a great synopsis of The Fathering Project and our Dads’ Groups: https://vimeo.com/235664869. There will be an information session at the school in the staffroom on Tuesday 12 November from 6:50pm-7:10pm. We hope to see all our fathers at this session.

Sustainability

Lessons at Burraneer Bay take place in many areas. One of those areas has been the school’s vegetable garden for some of our students. We have several environmental initiatives implemented at Burraneer Bay from recycling to water tanks, etc. Environmental perspectives are continuously reinforced through an integrated approach in the curriculum when appropriate.

School Planning Through a rigorous self-assessment process, the school is in the process of reflecting on our strategic directions for this year. Areas are literacy, numeracy and other Key Learning Areas, embedded Formative Assessment practices, Positive Partnerships (supporting students with autism), Critical & Creative Thinking (enrichment), communication and values. We are proud of our achievements and look forward to further developing in these areas next year.

Kindergarten Orientation The school experienced the second 2020 Kindergarten Orientation session on Monday. Thank you to all who assisted in the organisation of the event, as well as presenting information about our school to the new parents. We look forward to welcoming back our 2020 Kinders next year.

Presentation Day The school will be hosting Presentation Day on Wednesday 4 December in the school hall. Due to numbers, the school will host a separate K-2 and 3-6. The K-2 Presentation Day Assembly will be held in the morning and 3-6 in the afternoon at approximately 1pm. Everyone is invited to attend. If your child is receiving an award, a letter of invitation will be sent in the mail a few weeks prior to the event.

I never dreamed for success, I worked for it. Estee Lauder - 1908-2004 - Entrepreneur

Deputy Principal’s Report

Kindergarten 2020 Orientation

Our Kindergarten 2020 Orientation was a warm and welcoming experience for everyone. We were delighted to welcome back our new students for Kindergarten 2020 and their families for our second Stay and Play. This excellent transition program supports our new students and families in learning more about our school, what we offer and building positive relationships with our community. The hall was buzzing with excitement as 82 very excited little people joined us in the hall. They headed off to the Kindergarten classrooms with their Year 5 buddies to participate in a range of activities. They visited Mrs Stenning in the Library; read a book with their buddy; participated in lots of fun activities under the K-2 Cola, enjoyed classroom activities and had a tour of the school.

The new parents and carers were presented with an information session and shared morning tea. The Year 5

students were excellent ambassadors for our school. The welcoming smiles as they warmly greeted their buddies said it all. Congratulations Year 5. All of our school values were reflected in your outstanding efforts.

Thank you to all the staff who assisted with the Kindergarten Orientation. Thank you also to the Year 6

Staff and the Year 6 students who supported this wonderful school initiative by providing the

Kindergarten 2019 students with a morning of buddy experiences.

Voluntary Contributions

Thank you to all the families who have already paid their voluntary contributions. All schools request a Voluntary Contribution from parents each year to supplement existing funding. Our school relies heavily on these contributions to provide additional resources and learning programs for all of our students. Your Voluntary Contribution is an essential part of our school’s budget. Contributions are used to update facilities and to purchase equipment and resources for the benefit of all students. Voluntary Contributions can be made as a lump sum or in instalments by cheque, cash, online POP payment or Eftpos through the school office. The voluntary contribution in 2019 is $ 80 per single student or $140 per family with two or more children at the school.

Basketball Shoot Out Today’s SRC Fundraiser was a huge success. All of the students in the school joined in the fun and could not wait for the winners to be announced at the end of the day. It was great to see so manty students dressed as their favourite sports star or sport. Students in KT, 1H, 2Y, 3B, 4L, 5A and 6T will all receive a Zooper Dooper tomorrow. Thank you to Mrs Tolman and Miss Parsons for organising the event.

Please remind your children that it is very important to wash their hands after going to the toilet and before eating. It is also important to ensure that they cover their nose and mouth when coughing or sneezing.

Thank You Morning Tea. Our school would not be the great school it is without the help we receive from our very supportive school community. We would like to thank you for your support by inviting you to a Thank You Morning Tea. Please join us on Tuesday November 26th.
