Principal’s Note

COVID-19 (Corona Virus) Update

Thank you for your understanding during these

uncertain times. I would like to reassure you all that in

accordance with the Prime Minister’s and the Premier’s

address to the country, Junee Public School along with

all Government schools are open. We will continue to

follow the expert medical advice which is informing

these decisions. This week we sent home a letter with

every student which outlines changed policy and

procedures. This letter can also be view on the

Facebook page and the APP. You can also get the free

NSW School Updates app to receive operational status

updates for NSW Public Schools. It can be found in the

APP store or Google Play

https://education.nsw.gov.au/public-schools/practical-

help-for-parents-and-carers/nsw-school-updates-app

Unfortunately we have had to cancel activities external

to the school and reduce contact within the school. If

you would like clarification around this please read the

letter or contact the school. While some activities have

been cancelled others have been altered in the school

environment in accordance with the directive we have

been given from the Department.

I apologise that there are no face-to-face parent

teacher meetings this term. If you would like to speak

with your child’s teacher, you can;

• Email them directly

• Call the school to schedule a suitable time to

speak with them over the phon.

In the meantime we are continuing to follow the

directives given to us;

• Washing hands regularly and thoroughly

throughout the day. Every classroom has

sanitiser dispensers and students are using this

when going in and out of the classroom,

before and after every break. We have

reinforced with the students the importance

for social distancing and good hygiene

practices after going to the toilet.

• Sneezing and coughing into elbows or a tissue,

disposing of the tissue straight away and then

washing your hands.

• Stay home if you are unwell and in schools,

send home staff or students who show signs of

being unwell through the day. This is to

protect your children and staff. When you are

unwell your immune system can be

compromised.

We thank you for your cooperation at this time and

want to reassure you that the health and well-being of

everyone is our priority.

National Day of Action Against

Bullying & Violence- Bullying No

Way Day & Harmony Day

This Friday 20th March is a National Day of Action

Against Bullying and Violence and our students will be

engaging in lessons with a focus on positive behaviour

towards others. Our Positive Behaviour for Learning

values of Responsibility, Respect and Success will

underpin these lessons. Students will be learning about

bullying and strategies to deal with bullying, enforcing

the message the we ‘Say NO to bullying’ and have no

tolerance for bullying inside or outside the school

grounds.

Harmony Week is acknowledged in March each year

and is a celebration of our cultural diversity, a day

where we celebrate cultural respect for everyone who

calls our wonderful country home. The theme this year

is, “Everyone Belongs” and we will be celebrating the

cultural inclusiveness we experience in Australia and at

Junee Public School. Harmony Day is represented by

the colour orange. Traditionally this colour signifies

social communication and meaningful conversations.

Harmony Day falls on the 21st March and we will be

acknowledging Harmony Day this Friday alongside

Bullying No Way Day. The students are encouraged to

wear a small orange item with their school uniform as a

way of acknowledging mutual respect. In addition,

students will be participating in classroom activities

which are centred on the theme “Everyone Belongs”.

Due to Covid-19 precautionary measures being in

place we will no longer open the school to parents and

the wider community for this event and have cancelled

the International Food Day component of the day.

We will continue to keep you updated as more

information is distributed to us. In the meantime,

please ring us if you have any concerns or would like to

clarify anything.

Enjoy the remainder of your week and

look after each other.

News from the Classroom

We have had a busy start to the year in Muliyan. I have

been extremely impressed with my class ability to

settle into an effective routine despite a number of

distractions. There is clearly learning happening with

students displaying a high level of curiosity and

engagement during group work. We have been busy

working on our ability to provide increasingly

sophisticated contributions and building on the ideas

of others during class discussions.

In Literacy, we have been exploring Narrative texts.

Thus far, we have been looking at utilising language

features, developing clear structure in our pieces of

writing, creating interesting settings and building

unique characters to live in our stories. We have been

reading The Witches by Roald Dahl and exploring how

these features are evident in the writing of other

authors.

During Mathematics we have been consolidating and

extending our understanding and application of key

concepts in whole number, addition and subtraction

and multiplication and division. It has been great to

see how enthusiastic everyone has been during

Mathematics.

In our other key learning areas we have been exploring

Federation in History, Living things in Science and line

and colour during Art.

I am so proud of the way my students have carried

themselves so far this term and it has laid the ground

work for a very productive year moving forward.

Harmony Day

Harmony Day is a celebration of our cultural

diversity and is celebrated around Australia on March

21st.

National Day of Action against Bullying and

Violence is held on March 20th. At Junee Public School

we are combining our participation in these important

days and celebrating both on Friday March 20th 2020

by asking students to wear orange. Due to current

health precautions, we will have alternative class

lessons based on this.

PBL

This fortnight our PBL focus has been Hands and Feet

to Self. Students are reminded to follow this school

expectation to ensure that they are safe at school and

have positive and respectful relationships with their

peers.

Our Sentral data shows that we need to explicitly teach

this focus and reinforce our schools expectations. This

expectation comes at a poignant time where our

children's health is in focus and not only allows for

positive behaviour for learning and play but also

keeping ourselves healthy. Please support our school

in discussing this with your child.

The Sports Report (by Mr Cox)

Last Thursday, our boys’ cricket side played against

Cootamundra Public School. Although we came up

against a strong Cootamundra side, our boys are to be

commended on their brilliant attitude, effort and

sportsmanship on the day. Thank you to all family

members who were able to drive students over on the

day, particularly with a last minute change of venue.

We really appreciate it!

Congratulations to Talia-Rose who recently competed

at Riverina Swimming in Albury. We are so proud of

your achievements and know your represented our

school with pride. Well done.
