Principal’s Note

Welcome to Term 2

Welcome back to our second term for the year! Let me

start by saying how lucky we are to have such a

supportive school community. While COVID 19 has

presented us all with challenges never seen before, it

also brings out the best in people. We understand the

additional pressures families are under as they juggle

their roles of home teacher support, parent/caregiver

and for some of you working from home as well. While

you have had these additional roles to navigate some

of you have made time to check in on staff and even

bring in cupcakes as a token of your appreciation. It is

so reassuring knowing we are all in this together,

working to support our students, your children.

A Phased Return for Students

As previously communicated on the Skoolbag APP,

Parent Facebook Page and via Emails, the NSW

Premier and Minister for Education have announced a

phased operating model for NSW schools during

COVID-19. The new model will see students being

reintroduced to face-to-face learning at school one

day per week starting next week. The plan is phased,

and flexible, allowing us to slowly bring schools back

to normal while responding quickly to further health

advice.

There are five phases to get us back to full onsite

school operations:

•Phase 0. Where we currently are, schools are open for

families who need it.

•Phase 1. Students at school at least one day per week.

•Phase 2. Students at school at least two days per

week.

•Phase 3. Students at school five days per week, with

social distancing measures.

•Phase 4. Students at school five days per week, with

full school activities.

This is an overview of what Phase 1 looks like;

We have attached the timetable to the newsletter

which outlines what day your child’s class has been

rostered to return to school. You are encouraged to

keep your children at home for their non-rostered day

wherever possible. We will be rostering students on a

class basis; this will coincide with the rostering of staff

so that their class teacher can spend time with them on

this day. If you have any questions in relation to the

roster please don’t hesitate to contact the school.

Communication

We have been communicating information and COVID

19 updates on the Skoolbag App, Parent Facebook

Page and via Emails. In this edition of the newsletter

we have provided you with information on how to

download the Skoolbag App. Please call the school if

you would like further assistance with this. In addition

to this we ask that you check to make sure we have

your current email address.

Home Learning Packs

Thank you to those families who have returned the

completed home learning packages from Term 1. We

still have the big plastic tubs placed under the veranda

at the front of the school; each tub labelled on the

front with the class name and ‘in’ printed on them. We

ask that you return the completed home learning

packages, in the manila envelope the learning came in,

so that teachers can mark the learning. This is

important, as any students that have not attempted

any learning last term are marked differently in the

attendance role.

Term 2 learning packs have been issued. While most

families have collected their new folders we still have

several packs waiting to be collected. These can be

collected from the class ‘out’ tubs under the veranda.

These packages are labelled clearly with your child’s

name on them and we ask that you only take your own

child’s packages. For our younger students; these

packs will come in a two weekly bundle while some of

our older students will receive a pack of four weeks of

learning. This is so our younger students don’t become

overwhelmed with too much learning at once. The

home learning packages will also include additional

resources for hands on learning, like dice, playing cards

and counters etc. These packages remain with the

students and are to be brought to school on their

allocated day when we move to the next phase in week

three.

Please look at the attached timetable to view the times

your teacher is available online. Staff are also available

by contacting the school and we will organise a return

call. Teachers are also touching base with all families

each week. This is a time for you to discuss any

concerns you may have or for your child to obtain

support from them. Please be advised if you receive a

call from a staff member it will show on your phone as

NO CALLER ID as they have been instructed to block

their private mobile numbers.

Hygiene

Schools have been provided with additional resources

to ensure we enough hand sanitiser and toilet paper to

cater for the return of students. Please be reminded

that students MUST BRING THEIR OWN WATER

BOTTLE and a sufficient amount of food to get them

through the day. School bubblers are still not

operational at this time. Our Breakfast Club and School

Canteen are also closed. It is also important for you to

reinforce the importance of social distancing.

Additional Support

Listed below are some additional COVID 19 support

and resources for parents.

In closing I would like to thank you all for your

ongoing support. If there is anything we can support

you with please don’t hesitate to contact the school.

Enjoy the remainder of your week!

Kind Regards,

Tracy Delaney

News from the Office

We are fortunate to have the schools free Skoolbag

app available to all families. It is a great way to

communicate with families and for families to be able

to notify the school of absences, view the newsletter

and be notified of changes to routines or events.

Downloading the app is simple, just go to the App

Store if you use an IPhone or to Google Play if you use

an android phone. Both styles of downloads are free.

Remember to change your settings to allow you to

receive notifications.

In addition to Skoolbag, there is a Facebook page with

updates for both students and families. You can access

the Facebook page at the following link or search

Junee Public School and look for the school logo.

PBL

PBL (Positive Behaviours for Learning) is as relevant at

school as it is at home at the moment. Students have

all taken part in constructing classroom expectations

and use the all settings expectations around the school

each day. Some students might like to create their own

learning from home expectations or you could use the

PBL Learning from Home Matrix attached to the

newsletter. When we decide on expected behaviours

we make sure they are;

Observable - can you see it? e.g. Clean your learning

space

Measurable - can you measure it? e.g. Ask for help

Positive - e.g. walk inside instead of don't run

Understandable - use simple language (3-5 words)

e.g. Be patient

Achievable - can your child meet the expected

behaviour?

You can have as few expectations as you would like.

We often have fewer expected behaviours for young

students and more for older students.

You might like to reward children meeting expected

behaviours. You could use ipad time, a walk to get an

ice cream/treat, movie time, etc. Rewards don't have

to cost a lot of money.

We understand that learning from home has its

challenges. Please don't hesitate to contact your child's

teacher or myself for support.
