Easter Sunday is but two weeks away (April 1). In our First Reading from the prophet Jeremiah, we hear God tell us, “I will forgive their evildoing and remember their sin no more.” To affirm that forgiveness, St. Paul has this to say in the Second Reading: “He (Jesus) became the source of eternal salvation for all who obey him.” There is a connection between these two statements which present forgiveness as the way to salvation.
The Lenten season is one of penance, reflection, prayer, almsgiving, and fasting, perhaps even in that order, so we can better prepare ourselves for Easter Sunday and beyond. Lent reminds us that God is gracious and merciful. God’s divine mercy is a central theme of Lent.
One might say that the priceless gift of God’s mercy is highlighted and cele-brated in the Church in the Sacrament of Reconciliation (confession). That should be a key part of our Lenten journey. As mentioned only two weeks remain on that journey so getting to reconciliation is important if we have not done so already.
Sacramental confession allows God’s loving mercy and His grace-filled absolution to be confirmed to us through a priest. God sees us with love, mercy, and an abundance of forgiveness. Christ, through the priest, helps us to let go of anything that gets in the way of our relationship to God. St. Isidore wrote, “Confession heals, confession justifies, confession grants pardon of sin. All hope consists in confession. In confession there is a chance for mercy.”

OUR CATHOLIC APPEAL PRAYER
O Lord, we praise You for the many gifts You
give us each day; from the moment we were
a presence in our mother’s womb to the
grace-filled rise of the sun, to the blessing of
Sacrament, to the night which ushers us rest.
Help us to grow in our living faith.
Guide us to serve as leaders to bring about
holiness. Bring us to share ourselves selflessly in
all things in a spirit of love of You. In the
Eucharistic banquet,
You give Yourself completely and entirely to us.
We give You our return, O Lord, with gratitude
knowing there is no measure to the gift of the
Cross which brings us resurrection.

LIGHTHOUSE CATHOLIC MEDIA
Understanding Luther:
A Catholic Perspective on the
Protestant Reformation
Ken Hensley, a well-known Catholic speaker, teacher, and author, provides an insightful perspective on
Martin Luther and the Protestant Reformation from his vantage point as a former Baptist minister. Referencing Luther’s writings and his own conversion story, Ken clearly shows the theological and practical flaws of sola Scriptura and other teachings promulgated by the sixteenth-century reformers. Both Catholics and Protestants are sure to benefit from this fascinating presentation!

the Stewardship Room. The cost of the CD’s and Books is

DIVINE MERCY DEVOTION
The Novena of Divine Mercy was revealed to St.
Faustina on August 10, 1937…”I desire that, during these
nine days, you bring souls to the fount of My Mercy,
that they may draw therefrom strength and refreshment
and whatever graces they need...On each day you will
bring to My Heart a different group of souls and you
will immerse them in this ocean of My Mercy.” (The
NOVENA is to BEGIN on GOOD FRIDAY for the nine
days before the Feast of Divine Mercy.) “I want to grant
a complete pardon to the souls that will go to
Confession and receive Holy Communion on the Feast
of My Mercy.” “...that whoever approaches the Fount
of Life on this day will be granted complete remission of
sins and punishment. Mankind will not have peace until
it turns with trust to My Mercy.”
