STEWARDSHIP BY THE BOOK
In today’s second reading, St. Paul tells the Romans, “God’s gifts and his call are
irrevocable.” To what is God calling me today? What gifts are mine to share?
WORD OF LIFE
“The effectiveness of our commitment to peace
depends on our understanding of human life. If
we want peace, let us defend life!”

Today’s Gospel from the Book of Matthew describes what occurred in Tyre and Sidon when Jesus cured the daughter of a Gentile woman. Tyre and Sidon were Gentile cities. The Apostles faithfully followed the Lord wherever He went, just as we are called to do.
There was only one reason that the Lord made this trip (on foot, of course, as that was the only alternative at that time), and that was to cure the daughter of the Gentile woman. Making an effort like that is a sign of Christ’s love, and His understanding of a need. He was also trying to teach His followers, which includes us, how important each individual and her or his faith is.
Jesus’ Apostles found this situation, and perhaps even this entire trip, to be a fruitless and empty gesture, more of a bother than it was worth. They even plead with Jesus to ignore the woman and send her away. They said, “Send her away, for she keeps calling out after us.” However, Jesus is teaching a lesson to each of us, actually two lessons. He does not “send her away” but finally responds, saying “O woman, great is your faith! Let it be done for you as you wish.”
The two lessons (messages) Jesus provides to us are easily summarized. First, we need to know and understand that Jesus loves us and He is aware of our needs. The second is that when we pray and appeal for help (all the woman finally said was “Lord, help me!”) a key to answered prayers is persistence. She had it, and we need to have it.

(cry room).

1. All Catholics, 18 and over who would like to take
an adult refresher course on all aspects of the
Catholic faith.
2. All others (Non-Catholics) who would like to
know our Catholic faith.
3. All adults who wish to become Catholic next
Easter.
4. Catholics who missed Confirmation in their youth
but would now like to be confirmed, you will be
ready for Confirmation on February 17th at
10:00am.
There is no fee. There is no need to register. You
will be given two books on the Catholic faith. You
can give a donation, if you wish, to cover the cost!
LOUGH DERG PILGRIMAGE ISLAND
Help one of the oldest, if not the oldest Catholic
place of pilgrimage and at the same time take a
chance of winning €10,000 (that is Euros) by buying a
ticket for $15.00 or a book of five tickets for $50.00.
I only have 25 books. I have been on this 3 day pilgrimage 58 times. About
10,000 pilgrims go each year between June 1st and
August 15th. It involves a 3 day fast, no shoes, no
sleep the first night, plenty of time to pray and you
make as many friends as you want to make—or stay
quiet. “They say” St. Patrick started it off in the 5th
Century.
Help maintain this ancient place of pilgrimage by
buying one ticket or a book outside Church.
Thanks.

If you are seeking and wondering if you might want to return to your Catholic faith come and share your story.
Pope Francis reminds us that we are all connected. When your story connects to mine a powerful sacred bond may begin to form, one rooted in the promise of Matthew 18:20, “Where two or three are gathered in my name, there I am in the midst of them”.
Welcome Home begins on Wednesday, September 6, 2017, 7:00 PM, and continues for 6 weekly sessions in Elder Care on the Blessed Trinity campus.

Unlocking the Mystery of the Bible
by: Jeff Cavins and Sarah Christmyer
An Engaging Journey Through the Bible
This eight-part study (30-minute DVD's) provides the
easiest way to understand the Bible. Unlocking the
Mystery of the Bible makes the complex simple. It helps
you uncover the story woven throughout Scripture so
that you can get the “big picture” of the Bible and
understand what it is all about. The Bible is a story
about the Father’s unfailing love for you - a love that
you are now called to share with others.
You will:
• Make sense of the Bible and see how it relates to your everyday life
• Discover the remarkable connections between the Old and New Testaments
• See how the sacraments, the Church and our entire Catholic Faith is rooted in Scripture
Preview the trailer for "Unlocking the Mystery of the Bible" by Jeff Cavins on ascensionpress.com or YouTube.
Please call or text Melissa Condon at 352-207-3989 for more information and sign-up. Bible study will start in September.
